I missed the part where you switched from talking about Crying in H Mart to talking about The Book that Wouldn’t Burn (b/c I was cooking in the kitchen). You were talking about plots and world building and your confusion, and I thought omg Crying in H Mart is so much different than I imagined.
The way you described TBTWB actually made me want to read it more because I LOVE the whole figuring things out as we go along type of worldbuilding 😂 The beauty of reading! Kings of the Wyld was in my 2023 best books-so funny! I’ve yet to read the sequel tho 😅 Enjoyed the video and all the pet content!! ❤❤❤
I really enjoy your vids, I'm a nurse and it's great to see fellow nurses on booktube! I think it's a great release from all the stress the job has to offer. You are so pretty too
"The Book That Wouldn't End" was the exact same joke I made while reading it back in January. Every time I thought it was starting to pick up or that I was finally invested in something that happens, the book just went straight back to losing my interest again. It was a very weird experience, something about the writing that I couldn't connect to but it was also my first Mark Lawrence book so despite the fact that I really didn't like TBTWB, I'm still open to trying a different series from him eventually - hopeful the vibes work better for me the next go around.
Crying in h mart is one of my favorite reads. I read it at such a good time in my life as well so I have a tattoo of the little page number designs on my arms!
21:29 My view of reading books is to generally just go with the flow. No I don’t know what the Mechanism is or what the point of the Assistants are etc but I also know that Mark Lawrence/authors of other books have chosen to tell their stories the way they have and to just trust that things will all make sense at some point. Confusion may be intentional unless it’s just bad writing 😂 I have anxiety over other things, thankfully books isn’t one, maybe due to my views, maybe not. I do feel for your anxieties, though and hope you can overcome them 😊
the main problem with attempting this challenge for me is the fact that my phone is my phone, my kindle, my gps, my white noise machine, my tv, and also my radio sooooo the screen time goes ham
also my boyfriend and i also have the rule, wheoever’s driving get’s the choose what comes out the radio. (we do respectfully have 3 skips if it’s music but we’re also conscious about the other’s preferences as well)
I’m sad TBTWB didn’t work for you. It was my favorite book last year. I loved the surreal and confusing feeling when reading it and just the “WTF is going on” kept me invested. I thought the pay off was fantastic. I’m stoked for the sequel. I totally get how it won’t jive with everyone though!
🚂 I really need to pick up Crying In Hmart. It has been sitting on my shelves for too long. I didn't realize Bemjamin had a second book so added that to my tbr. If only I could get Al to swap his screen time.
You made me want to read "the book that wouldn't burn" soooooooooo bad now lol I am currently reading Everyone on this train is a suspect but as much as I loved the first book by the author (I think the writing style is genious!) I can't keep up with this one... hoping it's me and not the book tbh Also it s not meant to be a sequel, just some of the characters are the same
I had to give The Book That Wouldn’t Burn some breathing room when I read it. I initially wasn’t in the mood for it, and then it was my focus read for 3 days. I think if I strongarmed it, it would have broke me too 😅 But there’s a book for every one and every mood, and not every book can be that 🎉
I’m slowly making my way through The Book That Wouldn’t Burn digitally with the added challenge of page numbers/% turned off!!! It’s killing me not knowing how far I am into the book 😂 but I am enjoying it anyway 😊 11:18 just seen how chonky the book is!!!!!!
i´m not on a reading slump, im on a 2 book roll. (it would be three but the book was part of a book box) so lets get moving and groven. Wait until you get to Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, your going to hate that if your having a hard time with that book. (Just saying not trying to be rude, eventhough it sounds rude) but i was so exited for it, and just it let me down so hard! i had to listen to the book. The problem with me is i could see EVERYTHING when someone reads to me, or if im reading, and Heaven and Earth when i was reading, and hearing it, it was troubling to me, and just not for me. But you might like it. I always wanted to read crying in h mart, but i dont want to cry while reading, because i read out sometimes. Maybe that will be a home book.
I DNFd the book that wouldn't burn so you did better than me 😂 I've read 2 other Mark Lawrence books and didn't love either - his writing definitely isn't for me and I've now just given up 😂
Crying in H Mart sounds like a great read. I love memoirs even if I don’t have a background of the person. This was a great listen as I was cleaning the kitchen tonight. What was the app you were using to track your focus?
If I did that challenge I would read 15 or 16 hours each day. Not because I sit with the phone all that time but I listen to a lot of music and it get registered as screen time too.😅
I'm way more disappointed than I should be that you didn't like TBTWB. 😅 I have yet to pick it up but I am looking forward to reading it. You're my most reliable BookTuber for recommendations because our tastes usually coincide with each other. But every once in a while they are different - for example, I love Emily Wilde, but I totally understand why someone may not like it. Anyway, hope your slump goes away soon! PS: I received Blood Over Bright Haven today, and it says it is no longer available in paperback on Canadian Amazon. I wonder if I have one of the last independently published copies because the hardback has a publication date in October? I don't know...but I'm really glad I have it now regardless!
I'm so relieved someone else didn't get on great with The Book that Wouldn't Burn - I honestly thought it was just me. I hit a huge slump after reading this book and desperately wanted to DNF it. I liked elements of it but it was way too long for my liking.
I thought I didn't like The Book That Wouldn't Burn bc I wasn't paying close enough attention with the audiobook. Maybe just didn't like it for regular reasons.
I wasn't surprised that you struggled with visualising with Mark Lawrence's writing because he has aphantasia which means that he is incapable of visualising. His writing is beautiful, sometines very poetic, but his description can get so confusing if you try to visualise it.
i would love to do this but my screen time is like 7 hours a day 💀
mine yesterday was 14 hours lol it'd be impossible for me to do this challenge 😂😂
But you have time to be on your phone that much, just read instead of going on your phone.
Same, but mine averages 9-12 hours a day 😵💫
So glad someone else said this because same. But I do think reading sprints are a huge reason why 😂
mines 17 lmfao
😆 Caleb realizing what he'd have to do to help you achieve your plan. What an amazing husband!!
whatta guy💓

Reading slumps are the absolute worst! 😭
oof agreed
Hi Sid. I get stuck binge watching RUclips videos. I am going to try this 😅
When you said "libbity" I immediately thought "libbity bibbity" 😂
Amazing

I personally thought that ‘The Neverending Story’ really was 😂
“What a time to be alive” is my fave saying ever.
I loved Ripe so much but agree it was on the depressing side 😅 definitely one for people to proceed with caution for sure

"The Orange" by Wendy Cope is an ALL-TIME FAVE. Like I want a tattoo for that poem, it makes me cry. She's the best
i wouldn’t have time to sleep if i had to swap my screen time for reading. i’m an ipad baby through and through ✨
I think you miss the point. It is to get off the screen and read instead, not do both! 😂
Happy 4th year Anniversary Syd!! 😊❤

29:03 i didn’t even know you were in indiana. that’s so fun!!
okay but stopping because Love is Blind was on is SO REAL
I have The Book That Wouldn't Burn and I am looking forward to seeing what it is all about!
Your feelings about the Book That Wouldn't Burn is how I felt reading the Starless Sea.
I had a reading slump, too, but you inspired me to read all day, and so I rook all my spare time to read this week, and it was a huge success.
Audiobooks are great to get back into reading while getting things done. 😊
Every video I always think how cute your cats are!!
I love that you uploaded this the week I chose to film my screen time vs reading video😂 Great minds
I love National Treasure! Underrated movies for sure!
Kings of the Wyld is one of my all time favorite books!!
I loved that book too
Where did you get Avi’s raincoat? It’s so cute!
omgosh syd i LOVEEEE the imperial radch trilogy. so excited for you.
Really enjoyed this vlog and really need to do this myself!
🚂 I really need to pick up Crying In Hmart. It has been sitting on my shelves for too long. I didn't realize Bemjamin had a second book so added that to my tbr. If only I could get Al to swap his screen time.
I felt the SAME WAY about TBTWB! I skimmed the last 60 pages because I couldn’t spend any more time on that book.
Indy fake spring fooled me too!
I love seeing the little parts of your daily life, you and Caleb are so cute ❤
I miss thunderstorms.
I’m actually reading crying in h mart right now! So far I love it. 🚂 😊
What a great idea! I need to work on this! ❤
"my car, my aux, baby" A MOOD

I would love to do this! Except im worried what my screen time will be (esp youtube!!)

Me waiting for the “are you fkin kidding me” hahahahha I knew the exact moment so that was good enough 🤭
Lmfaooo the convo where you said “BS maybe two minutes” is me and Jared. He falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow! Can’t relate
HAHAHHA oh my god. sammaaayyy being a TYRANT
and also yes. he did indeed last only 5 minutes😂
Cute cats and dogs 😄
Ps: did you have zero screen time that week? Or did you squeeze in screens too?
I'm so relieved someone else didn't get on great with The Book that Wouldn't Burn - I honestly thought it was just me. I hit a huge slump after reading this book and desperately wanted to DNF it. I liked elements of it but it was way too long for my liking.
The book that wouldn’t burn wasn’t for me either
⛈We Love Team Creation ⛈
I’m so good at doom scrolling though 😬😬😬
I whole heartedly agree with you about The Book That Wouldn't Burn!! I did not like it at all........
I thought I didn't like The Book That Wouldn't Burn bc I wasn't paying close enough attention with the audiobook. Maybe just didn't like it for regular reasons.
I literally removed the book that wouldn’t burn form my TBR lmao
lmao im so sorry, but i hope it was the right decision for you😂🫶🏼
Book of the month ❌
Book worrom ✔️
Can anyone tell me the name of the song 25:38
👏
So based on your feelings about The Book that Wouldn’t Burn, I definitely don’t recommend the Malazan series by Steven Erikson for you. 😂
Its a shame you didn't enjoy all the books as much, hopefully your slump goes soon
what app is the tree from?!
its called Forest!
Avi girl❤❤❤❤

Interesting!
Hope you like "the book that wouldn't burn," I read it last year and found it very intriguing
