they are middle of the pack, but top of the midfield is the objective this year. wins depend more on development, theirs and Ferrari and Mercedes. McLaren is out of the picture and Alpine seem on the back foot too, so 4th in the championship is there for them.
Last years first few races were all over the place, so its quite possible that they will score some good results there, even though its unlikely they will suddenly match the podium pace.

I believe this is why the Alpine failed so much with him, it wasn’t built to go beyond its limits, it was built to stay below them, which is Ocons style, Alonso however will always pull everything out of his box of talents, something the Alpine didn’t enjoy
Last year, I was hoping it would be Alpine or Maclaren who put together a truly competitive package. But if it’s Aston Martin, I’ll take it! Especially with Fernando Alonso at the wheel… one of my favorite drivers, on track and off.
Aston have everything they need to be a top team. The exposure of a huge car brand, a new factory, a multiple time world champion, a solid second driver and an incredibly talented reserve for the future. I just wish we could have seen Seb and Fernando in the same team. After two years of hoping and praying I think being a fan of this team might finally be paying off. Looking forward to the season
I mean, if Aston really have a car on their hands then this would be the most fun season to watch in the recent years. I love Alonso. He is overall probably the best driver in all of racing cars.
I have been skeptical of Lawrence Stroll as being the classic boss villain that drives the team towards collapse rather success. But his determination comes with serious money and hunger. What is really impressive is that he really knocked it out of the park with his investment aptitude, coming in early as DTS helped blow up F1 globally. Now, we have an army of brands interested in joining, years after Lawrence Stroll saw something that nobody else did.
Another interesting signing by Aston Martin is Eric Blandin, former Chief of Aerodynamics for Mercedes. He will be key in optimizing the Mercedes engine

People are definitely blind. Since his return Alonso has 1 podium in Doha 2021 and that is his only result since 2014. In the meantime Since 2016 Lance Stroll scored 2 podiums with Williams, 1 podium and a pole with Racing Point. Ocon for instance scored a 2nd place with Renault in 2020 and a win in 2021 as Alonso's team mate in Alpine. Gasly with Alpha tauri won a race in 2020 and scored a podium in Brazil. So these undeniable data shows that them all have been beating Alonso since Racing against him and no one is saying that any of them will win the 2023 season.
