You did I great job. It looks so much nicer. I have a Honeyburst 50's Tribute. I really want to try this. I'm nervous but i guess I just need to make the initial scrapes to get the ball rolling
Go for it! But take your time and do it nice and even. At least with the Tribute you can follow the maple line. I've seen a couple of them done and they look great as long as you get the front the right binding depth. That's the key! ;0)
Awesome job! And thank you for the fun video. I would like to do the same for my trusty Les Paul Studio Lite 1994. And I will probably replace the frets instead of rounding the fret edges. Because I need frets all the way to the edge of the fretboard. In that case, of course, round the fret edges by myself. Rounding the edges of the fingerboard is also familiar to James Tyler guitars, but all my guitars have that treatment. Les Paul Studio in the 1990s is a treasure trove.
Good luck mate. Just take your time, try rounding the frets first and see how it feels as changing them opens a whole new can of worms, possibly chipping the fingerboard, having to level and polish etc! ;0)
Why is your Low E string intonation screwed forward so far?(towards the neck side) is this intentional? A mistake? I'm really curious to this one as I saw the same thing at Mark Knopfler's red Stratocaster... Could you explain this to me please? Cheers.
I think it looks better with the binding exposed but would have looked better if just coated with a “clear” the tru oil has made it too dark. Prefer the original black plastics as well, don’t think cream works that well on a black Les Paul, but would have changed the original black “speed” control knobs for black “reflector tops”, think they look killer on all Les Paul’s! But that’s just my personal opinion!
Scraping the binding has really transformed the look of your Les Paul, great job! Nice playing too!
Thanks a lot! ;0)
Great job! Gibson should make the studios like yours!
That would be cool! ;0)
I’ve thought about scraping faux bindings just like this for 20+ years...never got around to just doing it😂
Looks great!!!!!
Yeah me too! I've seen other Studios on the LP forums that had it done and I chickened out until now. Cheers! ;0)
Absolutely brilliant job. Looks fantastic!
Many thanks! ;0)

damn fine job that faux binding really sets it off and breaks up all that black, real nice..
Yeah I think so too! ;0)
Guitar looks Great! Really enjoyed your playing at the end. Heard some Schenker in there. 👍🤘♥️
Glad you liked it!

A whole new guitar :) Nice job!
Cheers, I love it again now ;0)
Looks so good! How long did the fake binding take?!
It took about 3 hours scraping and sanding! ;0)

That was where the string intonation was best, I'm using Ernie ball Hybrid Slinky's 9 - 46's ;0)
Absolutely Proper!
Cheers! ;0)
very kool nice job
Glad you like it ;0)
You did great
Cheers mate!
I'm not 100% convinced, I think that was a beautiful guitar to start with, but best of luck and keep the video's comming. ;-)
Thanks, will do! ;0)
