While wandering the streets of Kabul, Afghanistan the other day, I came across an old man named Haji, who is the last remaining person in the country (and likely the world) who still uses this ancient box camera to take portraits! This vintage device is over 100 years old and it was just FASCINATING to get my portrait taken -- it was like straight out of a movie!
Here is the full story of Haji and his mind-blowing box camera, which he uses not only as a hobby but as a profession. I think this photo is the best souvenir in my life!

Yeah an old film camera with really good lenses and good film is better then a cheap or even some mid level digital cameras (no pixelation) ...I have a cheaper 35mm Minolta autofocus from the 70's. Takes awesome photos.

Aside from that, Noor is AMAZING!! He's not only a guide but an amazing translator!! His dream to save up and build a school to educate the children on the street too! Noor truly deserves the support you and Thomas has given him (and we thank you for doing that too!!)

Drew you are a gem. Thanks for showing the good nature of humanity - especially in a place where they have not seen true peace for a long time. We, photographers are a community and it was great to see him keeping the flame burning in an environment which is so much different to ours. Apart from being amazed at his camera and skill, it was really touching to see his camera collection. I also have a Minolta SRT and it got close to home. @@Bruh-hq1hx dari is the main language of Afghanistan and farsi is the main language of Iran. Its basically the same language but they use for 30% different words. Most of the words are known in both languages. People of Iran and Afghanistan can easily communicate with each other. Some afghans say farsi instead of dari but they actually mean dari

Yes, it is basically the same language, but we often lack behind making new words for new discoveries, unlike Iran. They for example use the word “du charkha” meaning two wheels for bicycle, but we simply borrow the English word and call it bicycle. They say “rayana” in Iran, we use the word “computer”. It is because our country is at war and we don’t have a functioning a language council.

I mean who would have thought that you stepped into a war torn country with very bad reputation and stepped into an old guy’s house in some obscure neighborhood in Kabul and get his story that touched millions of people and has millions of views.
