While wandering the streets of Kabul, Afghanistan the other day, I came across an old man named Haji, who is the last remaining person in the country (and likely the world) who still uses this ancient box camera to take portraits! This vintage device is over 100 years old and it was just FASCINATING to get my portrait taken -- it was like straight out of a movie!
Here is the full story of Haji and his mind-blowing box camera, which he uses not only as a hobby but as a profession. I think this photo is the best souvenir in my life!

Yeah an old film camera with really good lenses and good film is better then a cheap or even some mid level digital cameras (no pixelation) ...I have a cheaper 35mm Minolta autofocus from the 70's. Takes awesome photos.

I'm binge watching this Afghanistan series. I'm amazed how nice the Aghan ppl are, it's totally different from what I've thought!
Aside from that, Noor is AMAZING!! He's not only a guide but an amazing translator!! His dream to save up and build a school to educate the children on the street too! Noor truly deserves the support you and Thomas has given him (and we thank you for doing that too!!)

Afghanistan people and the landscape is beautiful, have many potential for tourism and such but it's kinda sad at the state of their country, and how it is treated by the outside world and their own government.

Drew you are a gem. Thanks for showing the good nature of humanity - especially in a place where they have not seen true peace for a long time. We, photographers are a community and it was great to see him keeping the flame burning in an environment which is so much different to ours. Apart from being amazed at his camera and skill, it was really touching to see his camera collection. I also have a Minolta SRT and it got close to home. CCTV is for 24/7 surveillance that can be played back in an instant, and often months or years worth of footage is saved, so the quality is often very low since the storage space necessary to store months of 24/7 video is terabytes upon terabytes of data

Both of my parent fought in wars in Afghanistan and it was really hard on them. Esspesialy on my dad, who was sent out to fight when I was 2. I agree with that man, I want peace in afghanistan.
No offence but your parents were part of the problem. The Taliban were created, armed, funded and trained by the US government and now the same government claims to fight them. Surely you can see that it was all a ploy to steal Afghanistan's natural resources e.g. oil and gas? The US has killed over a million civilians there so far, not to mention the fact that the Taliban almost exclusively kill Muslims. It's a sad state of affairs...

Hi drew can you make a vid of the etnic groups of Afghanistan like pashtuns,Uzbek,Turkemen,Hazara,Aimaq etc. there are a lot of etnic groups of Afghanistan thats why you see so many different faces on street!
Hazaras are basically a Turco Mongol / iranic ( indeginous afghans ) mix , the photographer in the video is most likely one . Uzbeks and turkmens are Turkic . These three groups resemble each other . The pashtuns , Tajiks , nuristanis , pashayis , wakhis and pamiris are for the most part Caucasoid looking . They all look similar .
When we back to Afghanistan sense 2002 my first photo taken by this old camera 📸 this video return good memories 🥺❤️
