Matt, I'm in my 70s and have always been interested in construction machinery. I, too, would have loved to wander the auction yard with you and climbed up on the equipment.
I know its a very long shot, but on the Humvee did you check the back and see if the pioneer set was in its travel frame? There are two ways to fix your leaking roof, get a new one, or the field expedient method, Hundred Mile An Hour tape. Honestly in my 18year career in the Army, I have yet to find a soft top Humvee that didn't leak. Go online and find the -10 manual and print it out, it will tell you what to look for on daily, weekly, monthly PMCS. First thing you HAVE to do is change the oil and oil filter. Who knows when the last oil change was. Next thing is the transfer case. Drive it around in all of the ranges for about five minutes each, its rare to have to use it so the transfer gears get a little stiff. You finally have a vehicle that I can work on and am the SME, LOL. EDIT: I dunno what you are planning to do with the troop bench seats in the back, but you really should look at the the bolt points and see if there is any dissimilar metal rot there.

The lifts won’t budge if they are on uneven ground, those are meant to drive on flat surface. The beeping is most likely because one of the wheels does not touch the ground. The one that works,is on a fairly even surface, but the reason why it does not lift higher is because the bottom flange can’t open on both sides due to debris on the ground. If the charge was lost completely,it needs more charge than normal, and maybe you lost the battery pack completely. Sometimes it gets revived if you pour some demineralized water. Sometimes it doesn’t work at all and you need to change that pack completely.Hope it helps.
Correct pouring demineralized water (Or in simpler terms Distilled water) on all cells doesn't mean it will work but if it doesn't the batteries are most likely sulfated. To fix that charge them up for about half a day then put them on a heavy load until the batteries are at 10.5v without a load attached, then recharge them and repeat this process about 15 - 20 times and you should basically have near brand new batteries
The beeping means the charger can't see the batteries , The pothole bars have to be fully down to let you fully boom up (I work on snorkel booms and lifts)
The man lifts usually get corrosion in connectors, and also on some of them the charger wont charge if the battery is too low, then you have to help with a normal charger first. Good video as always 😄
I don't know what kind of batteries your lifts use, but I've had great luck using Noco Genius chargers to recondition my batteries and keep 'em floated. In fact, it even brought back one battery I thought was a lost cause. Might be worth a try. I'm so jealous about your lifts - congrats on that, Matt! I've been wanting a good cheap one for years. No good deals on any at the RB near me, though, dang it!
protip for the 24v systems: use your welder! you can dial that back down to 24v, and it can have a lot of amps behind it, but it will only take what it will take, so you can charge a 24v system with a custom set of jumper cables from a welder!
What a great haul! Really looking forward to the step van "will it run" episode... stay on their case and don't let them BS you. Get a duplicate title if you have to... that looks like an awesome machine! I would love to have it, and I have no idea what I would ever do with it! Love the channel, love the content! I always hit the "like" button before you ever get started on driving over the camera!
Sweet Humvee Matt. I know a guy that had the same issue with the canvas top. He actually had a piece of stainless steel broke to fit the top and it looked sweet and worked even better. Awesome purchases, who else would obtain 3 scissor lifts for $250 each, only Matt!!!!
Smokin’ deal on the lifts!!! Highly recommend AGM batteries for them when you replace the ones they came with. They average twice the price but are truly maintenance free and last a lot longer overall in our experience with them in our lifts and other equipment. Handle cold weather better as well.
The roof is fabric so any waterproof fabric will do. Remove the old one, use as a pattern for a new one, buy vinyl from any fabric store and cut to fit. Ive done this to repair an MG Midget roof, and a Jeep Wrangler soft top. It can't be much different for the hummer roof. UV radiation is the problem, it'll eat anything over time, so pick a UV resistant vinyl or just cover with a tarp.
@@charlesangell_bulmtl yup. Loads of sources of canvas out there. Hell, old civil war reenacting tent or fly will do and could probably be cheap. Whatever Matt chooses to do for this, I've no doubt he can figure it out!
Few of my friends work at the cracker plant. They had the largest crane in the world there. They brought in the 3rd largest to set up the big one. It had like 60 shipping containers full of sand for ballast. I went down there to pick him up one day and man you come through the mountains and out of nowhere you see billions and billions of dollars on the side of a hill
At night when there is cloud cover, driving down the hill from Brighton Township, all of the lights reflecting off the clouds make it look like the sun is coming up.
The HMMWV will always have a wet seat the doors don't seal well. I'm willing to bet it is a 6.2. Put a battery cut-off switch on it to avoid the drain. For those of you who don't know. High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle
When you film, if you don't like a take and decide to do another, just click your fingers near the camera, then when you edit you'll see a vertical line on the audio timeline and know something happened. The reason this is better than stopping and restarting the recording is that that screws with your mind, makes you feel a failure, increases tension, stops flow and pushes you to make more mistakes whereas a finger click is immediate and bucks you up to do better. Old tricks from the pros! ;o)
I do not appreciate the negative comments towards you, some hateful. I appreciate your knowledge, approach, insight and experience. Every episode is an adventure and I am on board 100%
Damn that Stepvan was my favorite find of this lot - looks like there’s going to be a lot of untold treasure in that. Humvee was pretty cool too, that’s a steal I always see those go for stupid money. Be plenty of Smiles per Gallon with that one
Matt, this will probably be missed by you. I drove them in Iraq and Michigan in the MI Army National Guard. They are OK. The heater will keep you cold in the winter. You can about roast a turkey in them in Iraq in the Summer! As another said, get the -10 manual. It is designed for a lot of operator maintenance. I am guessing those are run flat tires. Those do work. Matt, you can do a video alone on replacing a tire on a rim. Those rims are two part with a rubber o-ring in the middle. Been there. Done that. Twisted a socket extension doing it! They do make a solid hard top. You can find one of those or make your own. The canvas will always leak. If you pull up the floor mat, you will find drain holes to let the water out. In short in my Guard time, I was not impressed. Also, always check the 12 castellated nuts on the independent suspension. If the cotter pin falls out, the nuts will back off. If you lose a nut and hit a bump wrong...what happens next won't be good! In my time I found 2 missing cotter pins and one nut backed off a few threads. Get the -10 manual. Use and obey.
Your Dad must be SO proud of you! People can put what you have down to luck, but you have educated yourself to an amazing degree in USEFUL knowledge, worked your fingers to the bone and seem to be thriving and all that with a great attitude. I wish you much success as you continue to prosper. Thanks for the videos!
Having been a motor transport operator in the Marines, and having driven humvee's for tens of thousands of miles, I don't think you got a great deal on that. They are over rated vehicles. Their off road capability is limited, and they do terribly in the snow. And you'll only ever have two air conditioning options: hot, and hot as hell. And they can only carry 1-1/4 ton, and tow 2-1/4 ton. That being said, if you ever come across a 7-ton (MTVR) from Oshkosh, you should jump on it. Great vehicle. Reliable as hell and you can take it anywhere. I've seen them tow a CH-56 out of a ditch. I've seen them take hits from RPG's and keep running. I've driven them through mud almost covering the tires completely. Very fond memories of driving those bad boys.
Or cold as heck in the winter! I drove them in the Michigan Army National Guard. Going into Iraq in 130 degree heat and even in normal temperatures in Michigan, I found them under powered on the highway. If you get below 50MPH, you drop below the engine power band. I agree in snow those tires just do not grip.
@@klsc8510 Totally. I also worried more about rolling over in a hummer than I did in any other vehicle. And he’ll never fix that leak. It’s gotta be a feature, why else would they all leak?
Great haul, especially the Humvee. I'd consider just getting some sheet steel and making a removable topper for it instead of messing with more fabric topper if it was mine. Too bad you didn't get the larger manlifts. Probably more than $250 worth of steel in each one you could use for other things.
For the HV. Remove the cab cover pressure wash it let dry. Than go to Home Depot and get a 1/2 gal or more of (Aqua Armor)(Best stuff ever!) water repellent for fabrics and spray it on with a pump sprayer. Great to use on boats, tarps, RV's awnings, deck umbrellas, car covers, etc. Anything! Also apply a UV protectant (like Sun Guard) helps fabrics last longer.😉👍👍👍👍👍
Dresser was already backing away from the Galion products when this D784 was made. The Brainiacs at corporate had determined that there was almost no market for vibratory compactors, they starved us of R&D funds and let the product wither on the vine. A short time later, after the assembly line was shut down , Caterpillar launched a whole line of compactors to great success. Seems like some German compactors also arrived on the scene and sold pretty well. Ancient history now…
Sounds like the savants at ITT corporate... is it successful? do we get triple extra double bonuses for each unit sold? well... screw the consumer - MORE BONUSES!
@@Le_Comte_de_Monte_Felin the suits at Dresser were oil patch guys. They saw all yellow iron as the same. They couldn’t discern between sand-and-gravel operators, mining, highway construction, building contractors, etc. They expected our dealers to sell compactors and graders to sand-and-gravel guys. Dresser bought finished international harvester inventory at pennies on the dollar. They made a killing when the stuff sold at full MSRP. They burned through that pretty quick, tho and when they had to buy steel, engines, hydraulic parts etc and build from scratch, those tasty profits vanished. Like the mouse said, Let’s forget about the cheese, just let me out of the trap. There is more to the story if you would like to hear it.

Galion had some great products, Dresser had some really good stuff to,, but everything International turned to crap towards the end. While I’m happy that hummer ran well including pulling that container. He is sad that at least 2 episodes worth of content lost starting and fixing it… cracked me up too…
Thanks Matt for bringing me along to the auction! Always a treat to see what you are looking at! A great time while so am laying in my hospital bed, 3 days.after a left hip revision! That means it was replaced in 2019, and it didn’t work well, so I had to have it replaced a second time. They had to replace both parts again this time, and after 2-4 weeks in a rehab center, I hope to be home again by myself! Good luck on what you find at the auction, watching your dream garage, as a devoted fan!
The radio in your Humvee is a Kenwood TK-790/890 (VHF or UHF depends on the model). It can be reprogrammed and made useful if you have a ham license or on other frequencies.
31:23 about the batteries. They can be recovered if they end up not doing much. What you need to do to get rid of the corrosion, charge them for a long while and then put them on a heavy load, in this scenario using the lift should be heavy enough until the batteries are empty, then you charge them back up again and continue the cycle for around 10 - 20 times. Each time you do the cycle you should notice it lasts longer and longer, you could even measure the current with a car battery tester to see whether it's improving. If it isn't improving check whether one of the cells are empty and fill it up to cover up the lead plates with distilled water. Do not use tap water, it will kill the batteries!!!.
9:23 We have a 200 hp electric motor that runs the hog, looks very similar just a bit bigger. Eats laminated veneer lumber (LVL) up to 24" wide and 3½" thick on the regular, comes out sawdust and toothpick sized slivers. Doesn't bog much. Runs on 480V 3 phase. It's pretty impressive to hear it spool up! Requires us to wear earplugs AND earmuffs!
Had afew electric motors on one of the ships I worked on that made those look like toys. Not sure what the hp rating of them were now, but all were 440v 3 phase
Check this bad boy, 1000kW, it runs coal mill at 6000V 3 phase. ruclips.net/user/shortsa6PDi_u41QA?feature=share I have 8 of them running 24/7 in the powerplant where I work. We also have 4 with 2000kW, 2 with 4000kW and two high pressure feed pumps with 8000kW each.
As someone that’s has had the honor of dealing with those “beautiful” “never failing” humvees I winced when you bought it good luck and you’ll definitely have your hands full with it
Since that Humvee is ex police, that two way radio probably isn't going to be too useful to you, but might be worth selling, depending on what brand/model of radio it is, and what frequency range for which it was designed. I know quite a bit about two way equipment, as a former radio tech and current amateur radio operator, so if you need some further information on that radio, I would be more than willing to help.
Is it feasible that the frequency range could be changed or extended? Is it likely to be VHF or UHF? Is it legal to listen to police broadcasts? I seem to remember something about it being OK to listen so long as you don't act on what you hear, but that is going to be different on what country and state you are in. I hope Matt puts up some video on that radio, and it would be cool if he reaches out to you. [EDIT] BTW I used to have G6HVK as a UK VHF only call sign many many years ago, but I let it lapse, and was never interested in doing the Morse to get a full license.
@@TrevorDennis100 being that this radio is ex police, it is probably a UHF high band radio (800MHz) and most likely trunked. Moving something like that to another band can be very difficult, although I have converted many VHF high and low band radios, as well as UHF low band to the nearby amateur radio bands. Listening to police broadcasts in the US isn't illegal (except in the commission of a crime), but usually pretty difficult these days, since many radio systems are trunked and encrypted. One common feature of trunked radio systems is being able to see which radios are on the system, and another common feature is being able to remotely brick the radio, to keep it off of the system. It is also entirely possible that this radio is an older model, no longer legal for use in commercial service, after the narrowbanding push of the last couple of decades. There are a lot of variables, and having model number info would solve a lot of those variables. I'm currently licensed as Extra class KD5TKR, and work in public safety, but not in radio communications. If you have any further interest in amateur radio, most governments have removed all requirements for Morse code testing. You could get your UK full license by taking a couple of tests. Check with the Radio Society of Great Britain for more info.
For a temporary fix on your hummer roof, get a piece of canvas and cut to the size of the hole 🕳 and use some good glue or cement that works on canvas..I would just make a roof out of fiberglass,if that is what you would like to do...
Some hard learned words of wisdom. Containers are designed to be tied down through the corner holes. Like when hauled on the specialized trailers they come on. The authorities DO NOT CARE how many stripes you have. If replacing the toggle switches on the scissor lift use only mil-spec switches. Garden variety switches will leak and actually complete a circuit through the moisture in them really low amperage circuts( milliampere). Don’t cheap out here. Maybe del city wire. Find a multicell battery charger that can recondition. It’s slow going but you can generally reclaim the batteries and bake the crusties from the plates. Also copious amounts of fresh battery acid because whoever serviced the batteries couldn’t be bothered to use distilled water. Lots of luck and congrats on your new purchases.
Got to love a good auction! That service truck will be a great video, for sure! Hope it all works out! Hope it dries up for you so you can start the new shop soon!
Suggestion on the HMMMV, replace the ignition if it's a lawn tractor ignition, they are known to not turn off properly after alot of use and will drain the batteries. Get yourself a good ignition for it.
@Matt ... i believe there is a safety lowering valve usually at the rear steps, to lower the platform in case the operator is incapacitated. usually twist to unlock and pull to lower. there should be pictures 33:00
I'm one of those unreasonable people that's so much more excited about the three identical manlifts than any of the other stuff. Manlifts are just awesome, and like you said, for $250 a piece, I would've bought every single one of them as well. Great scores Matt!
Once upon a time I used to build those Hummer tires. At that same time my son was driving on those tires in Iraq. He was in one of those hummers when a road side IED took his and two other hummers out. No serious injuries to anyone in any of the hummers, thank God.
Some great buys! Thanks for taking us along! Auctions sure test the batteries! How many starts do they go through without a full warmup allowing battery recharge?!
You got a great deal on that HMMWV, even if it ends up needing some work! Don't they feel kind of weird to drive? Particularly the way they kind of slosh back and forth when you stop because of the gears and shafts between the wheels and inboard-mounted brakes. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Good luck on that service truck, too!
Find an old travel trailer or camper and strip the aluminum off. It'll make a good top for that hummer, a little latex calk , some rivets, spray paint it and it should do fine. Very light weight and holds up better than canvas. Put some of that shiny bubble wrap insulation they sell and you can probably get the thing pretty warm in the winter too.
On the batteries I would take them out one at a time pour the acid/water out and put distilled water back in them if you have a old trickle charger use it to build up the battery back it will take at least 5 days per battery to revive it and bring it back to life. I revived a old lawnmower battery 2 years ago and it still works good.
Love, love, love the Hummer. The other deals were good too. Sure hope the step van deal goes through. Good vid Matt. I think you'll appreciate the man lift in the new shop. By the way...how is the new shop coming along? Just excited to see it get under way. Have a good week Matt.
Nice one Matt. You bought some neat shit there. One of the reasons I watch your channel is because you get all the crap that I would buy but my wife would put me in a world of hurt.
Matt; if you still have that H1 Hummer in your stable; A.M. General in the early 2000's managed to get a Duramax Diesel shoehorned into the H1's by giving them a six inch lift so the oil pan would not hit the ground to get rid of the dog 6.2 GM diesels.
You always get great deals! I'm impressed at how often you call the prices on the dot. The Hummer looks like fun! Now, the real question - how does Eva feel about all this new shtuf?
You did score BIG. Like you mentioned at the beginning, it is hard to tell how an auction will go. It always makes my day to see a new Diesel Creek upload. I cannot wait to see the progress this year. Finally looks like the spring thaw is underway. Looking forward to seeing the new shop come to life. Now you have a few more tools to help in the process.
I have worked on many of HUMVEEs and all I say it good luck. Wiring should be all black wires with brass Id tags crimped on, and if you got a NA diesel have fun, have done many of simple repairs.
Good stuff, looks like you got some good deals. Was pretty fun seeing the humvee yank that container off the trailer. Don't let the auction place/seller get away with that title scam on the truck.
Hello Matt, oh man I have tried to build 2 times and could not make it. I had 10 acres once with a 1959 1000 case track loader with a 3 yard bucket, it was so much fun. Then I had 5 acres both properties in the mountains, I had a 1979 maybe it was older the guy I bought it from said he blew it up and put a engine in it out of 79 case loader, mine was a 350b Dozier or was it a b350 any way it had a 6 way blade, that was so much fun to. I had to make sure I finished all the work needed done befor I got on one of those tractors because it was always after dark when I got off of them. Anyway I sure am jealous, I miss my property so much I had something to do every day cut trees down or burn or dig a ditch, always something to do. I am glad for you.
You can probably make a new soft top for the hummer easier than buying one. Any marine grade fabric would work if you know someone with a decent sewing machine. Just use the old one as a pattern. Also you might get a couple gallons of deionized or distilled water to top off the batteries, you might be able to nurse them back to life.
I used to have a bit of work for army surplus auctions many years ago, and the trick is to check out carefully what’s on offer, and know the value. Nice to see your routine on these auctions. Too many times I saw people getting caught up in the blood rush and spending waaaay above the value of something, or buying downright crap. I went to one army auction as a bidder and found some Polaris 6x6 - worth nothing. No compression on some. Others totally worn out.
Our local Washington (Chehalis) auction was the 24th. Everything I wanted went for out of the good deal range but patience paid off as I scored a clean 99 Chevy C7500 flatbed with a 2 ton liftgate and 77K miles for $1000. It was in a different location so nobody was paying attention, bonus, closer to my house!
Two local depts have the up armored hmmwv. They use them for high water rescue, off road rescue, and for an armored vehicle. Great vehicles if a bit annoying to drive (no creature comforts)
The crane truck was a good buy but I think this auction haul beats it. Those scissor lifts were a great deal and the hummer is just awesome. Hopefully the title comes through on the van.
Matt, Make sure you service the wheel hubs and differentials on the Humvee as well as checking the steering balljoints, drops. They are usually very neglected areas. As for the leaking top, Even when new they leak. The only way is to convert to a hard top.
Charge & test the batteries individually and make up enough batteries to work and replace the batteries on the one you are keeping. That's what I'd do. Enjoy riding along with you and your buddy.
Yes, u are so lucky to get those big Toys, my father also loves those Auctions sales, he can't stay away from that as even my father pass away now soon many things going on for sale because most of it u can't drive all of it at the same time. thanks for sharing.
Just an fyi to turn the lights on to service drive you need to move the top switch at the same time as the bottom one as the top switch is a lock for the bottom. You will like the black out drive if it works. Otherwise looks like a good vehicle. You can get a new soft top online fairly cheap or convert it to a hard top for a little more money. Pretty easy to install

It was a good deal and with it being former police owned it probably was rebuilt at one time and taken better care of then others.
Use the humvee for towing stuff instead of using the Ford
With the prices of fuel right now (March 2022), of course the Humvee was going to be chip.
I wonder if one could get off cheap by throwing patches on the areas worn through and then spraying with some Raptor liner or an equivalent.
My first thought was a sheetmetal removable top.

As seen on TV, FLEXSEAL has the solution. 😁 If you can make a screen door float, anything is possible.
I never did it, but I’m told the top made a nice hammock (until the top stretched and then collected water)
Oh yeah that Humvee Sounds good 25:28 @Diesel Creek

The lifts won’t budge if they are on uneven ground, those are meant to drive on flat surface. The beeping is most likely because one of the wheels does not touch the ground.
The one that works,is on a fairly even surface, but the reason why it does not lift higher is because the bottom flange can’t open on both sides due to debris on the ground.
If the charge was lost completely,it needs more charge than normal, and maybe you lost the battery pack completely. Sometimes it gets revived if you pour some demineralized water.
Sometimes it doesn’t work at all and you need to change that pack completely.Hope it helps.
Thanks, those are the Inside tricks that save people from a lot of stress.
That's what I was thinking, a trickle charge on the batteries for a while should bring them up so the charger can take over.
He knows, lol .... seent it in one of his videos

Them Knaack Boxes are nice i agree man cave Entertainment Center and there loaded with computers and monitor and everything 11:56 @Diesel Creek
Smokin’ deal on the lifts!!! Highly recommend AGM batteries for them when you replace the ones they came with. They average twice the price but are truly maintenance free and last a lot longer overall in our experience with them in our lifts and other equipment. Handle cold weather better as well.
@jake broesky and if he could make a portable jump box out of it too
The roof is fabric so any waterproof fabric will do.
I vote for an old school canvas re bop...rather smell canvas than vinyl...
And to think, all that hardware just to make crackers!

Old tricks from the pros! ;o)

10 minutes later and I'm still laughing about the 2 a/c options.... even worse if you opt to enter a slow moving car cruise won't do that again.
Just think if he was hanging around in Iraq a few months ago he could have got one barely used for free... ;)

Probably more than $250 worth of steel in each one you could use for other things.
bad ass vid. I'm jealous of the Humvee

Love the auction vids just as much as fixing them up
Mix some silicone caulk with naphtha, about 50/50, and soak your canvas top with it. Makes a good tarp out of just about any fabric.
If Teng Tools hooks you up with a bed box for that Humvee it'll make one hell of a service truck.
If that doesn't work just put that mini container up there, some cutting and welding may be required though 😉
I've noticed in my older age that I don't like "Hummers" as much as I used too, lol, between Andrew and Matt they are going to create a container shortage, lol, most people will never tell what they pay for something, thanks for making it interesting to us Matt, and thanks for sharing.
Galion had some great products, Dresser had some really good stuff to,, but everything International turned to crap towards the end. TD20E and most E series dozens were ahead of their time with 2 speed steering and modular design. Great tractors, gone. Trucks, about gone. Excavating equipment, gone. It's like the government was running it
“I don’t even have to rebuild the engine before I can use it so that’s kinda weird”. That made me laugh so hard, although the crane series is one of my favourites. Thanks Matt for bringing me along to the auction! Always a treat to see what you are looking at! A great time while so am laying in my hospital bed, 3 days.after a left hip revision! That means it was replaced in 2019, and it didn’t work well, so I had to have it replaced a second time.

Check this bad boy, 1000kW, it runs coal mill at 6000V 3 phase.
ruclips.net/user/shortsa6PDi_u41QA?feature=share
I have 8 of them running 24/7 in the powerplant where I work. We also have 4 with 2000kW, 2 with 4000kW and two high pressure feed pumps with 8000kW each.
As someone that’s has had the honor of dealing with those “beautiful” “never failing” humvees I winced when you bought it good luck and you’ll definitely have your hands full with it
I thought the same thing.
I was really hoping he'd pass on it. but I get it , I had to own one ONCE myself lol
Prices have gone crazy recently but you managed to snag some good deals . Love the auction videos 👍
Tell me about it!!
@@DieselCreek Those prices are dead giveaways compared to what that sort of thing goes for in South Africa!
Betting between the 3 lifts, you could find enough batteries in decent condition to get a good pack that stay charged.

Holy Matt! Just one working scissor lift and that Hummer would put a smile on my face for eons! Great scores! I really hope you get that van!
Humvee's are being replaced by Oshkosh. They should be pretty easy find. You got the style I would want, super cool.

I have worked on many of HUMVEEs and all I say it good luck. Wiring should be all black wires with brass Id tags crimped on, and if you got a NA diesel have fun, have done many of simple repairs.
Easy fix for the Humvee roof is a piece of fibreglass sheet. Take off the canvas, bend the sheet over the frame and done.

I am glad for you.
the corrosion that builds up on the plates is lead sulfate, a really long slow charge will help dissolve it and possibly save the battery
Just take off the cloth top & weld some steel plates on the top & get a long piece for the back of the cab& cut out a place for the back glass
Can’t wait for the next video !
