Crying at the doorsteps of the armies of salvation: Salvation Army. She’s talking about the charity. Great song. Nothing more powerful than a great singer with a a fantastic song and her guitar.
it would take him 1 second to search the lyrics at google... so why do that so less reaction chanels...? because it dont interest them, they only have to do so...
She did this performance at the last minute, as a fill in at the beginning of her career and killed it! I believe it was at Whimbley or Knebworth in England.
I think this performance was planned but when she started packing up, Stevie Wonder didn't bring some of his gear so he couldn't perform live, and they asked her to sing "Fast Car" in front of 60.000 people instead. She managed to astonish and calm down the whole crowd, thats what the song still does these days to everyone who is feelin it. Its a song that is just part of everyones life
♥ In regard to "Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation", I believe she's referring to the meals for those without food given out by the Salvation Army.
Tracy Chapman is one of the best things, music-wise, to come out of the 80s. Her songs are powerful and beautiful. She's put out so many great songs. Here's but a few: Give Me One Reason, Across The Lines, All That You Have Is Your Soul, For My Lover, Mountains O' Things, Why?. I have several of her CDs, there are great songs on all of them.
Beautiful song, what makes it extra special was that this performance was at the Nelson Mandela 70th birthday tribute concert, in relation to the Anti-Aparthied movement. Much emotion is brought out in this performance. She's simply amazing.
Her voice is beautiful distinctive & one of a kind. When she performs you know instantly it's her. I really dig how she goes about her song & pulls you into her song & the skill she has to transcend
Hey man, I gotta give you props for doing a song like this, that's very slept on, and very few reactors check out. Sometimes I see a song sweep through every single reactor out there because it get's clicks. And that's cool, I understand people wanting to their channel to do well, and I also understand, once one reactor does a certain song, subscribers from other channels will request it, so not hatin' on anyone, just nice to see someone do a song, for no other reason than someone requested it and it looked dope. Keep up the great work!! ✌🏻❤️ P.S. Here's a song that's slept on, I never heard of this band til this past summer, and can't find any reactors doing them. Now it's a cover, but extremely well done and very unique. In fact, I've been a sub here for a minute, and I know your love for live music and instruments being the main focus, especially drums. so if you can look straight in the camera after this song and with a straight face tell me you didn't care for it, not only will I send you a crisp $50 bill, I will take my favorite pair of kicks, and eat the left one...lol "Take The Power Back" RATM cover by the band Brass Against ruclips.net/video/-yMlW9YkpmA/видео.html
Not many artist can stand alone on a stage, with only a fantastic voice, a guitar and a "great story". And you can make thousands of people go quiet, and listen to that story.
Had the privilege of seeing her live 20+ years ago. It was so beautifully simple. Standing there with her guitar, armed with the most powerfully poetic lyrics and touching melodies, she had an entire crowd of thousands hanging on her every note. That voice! Man. She’s just incredible. Two other great songs of hers were “Fast Car” (what a picture she paints of trying hard to get out of a poverty situation) and Give Me One Reason (a bluesy, last gasp of saving a relationship song.) I highly recommend both! Thanks again for all your reactions! You’re one of my all time favorites!!! 💜
This is what i miss about MTV, Jr high kids like me,waiting on the new Poison, Motley Crue, or Public Enemy and you accidentally get exposed to Fast Car, and it leads you to songs like this. Tracy is so fuggin good.
Only her powerful voice and the guitar - and it’s enough🤍 There’s a haunting a capella song by Tracy Chapman about domestic violence, called “Behind the wall”, where it’s just her voice in silence. You listen to it, and you forget there are no other instruments in the song. She’s a true talent and a living legend 🤍
It’s nice to see how well you have connected to Chapman. I was selling compact discs at the time and she turned the music world and fan base on its ear. Her songs are so refreshing and reassuring. Thank you, Van.
Thank you for doing this song. ❤ Her voice is so unique and beautiful. She is singing "Armies of Salvation" meaning the Salvation army charity. Live you Van. Hope your family has a wonderful Christmas ❤
First time I heard her, standing in my living room,,, chills went through my entire body,,,, her voice straight from God, I felt she would be around for a very long time! Love her voice, stature and humble spirit! Sad she is not releasing anything lately 😢
I looked it up: Tracy Chapman: remembering her remarkable debut 30 years on Music critic Jacqueline Springer pays tribute to Tracy Chapman's breakthrough performance 30 years ago this week. At an anti-apartheid concert for Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday, Chapman nervously appeared on stage with nothing more than a guitar and a microphone as a last minute stand-in for Stevie Wonder. She transfixed a packed Wembley Stadium with a selection of songs from her debut album - including Fast Car and Baby Can I Hold You Tonight - and became a global star.
Lol I confused myself because I misread what you said and thought you said she appeared on stage with a guitar and a microwave. 🤣 I was thinking "what the hell is she gonna do with the microwave?" Lol.
You can honestly choose any song of hers and just listen. Her music is soulful, relatable and just soo relaxing, on top of having a message. Another soulful one is "baby, can I hold you" or "heavens here on earth" "remember the tinman". Being born in 1986 I was fortunate my parents listened to everything and introduced me to her music. I still listen to her albums randomly when ya need that easy listening feel good music. Lyrics may not be feel good always but background instrumental and vibe is.
I saw her in concert in 2000. It’s interesting that it does matter if it’s a crowd of 1000s or just one, she makes it feel intimate, like she’s just singing to you. I’d recommend Baby can I Hold You Tonight for your next reaction.
In a time of hair bands and techno pop she was a breath of fresh air. Her simple, laid back approach forced you to pay attention to her music and what she was saying. Her lyrics were not only relevant to current situations of the time but are also relatable today. Another song to check would be All that you have is you soul.
I forgot about this song by Tracy. Everything she does is superb. Such a beautiful voice. You might want to check out Joni Mitchell's song Banquet. Another song about the plight of the human condition ( in her way) If you do react to Joni, be prepared to go down another rabbit hole! Another top notch singer, musician, songwriter.
I treasure all my albums collection. When I want to totally block out the world, close my eyes and sip a wine she has been my go to girl for decades...Glad your discovering this legend in Folk , Blues, Soul icon..She is 57 years old now and can't wait for her next album..Although she has not produced any music since 2008.
To see her true range, check out Tracy Chapman singing The Thrill Is Gone with the late great BB King. Truly magnificent if you are a fan of the blues, BB King, and Ms. Chapman.
"Crying at the doorsteps of those Armies of Salvation ". Relying on the Salvation Army for charity. Talking about the inadequacies of the US social safety net.
What I love about you, is your apprieiciation and knowlegde of vocal techniques and skills. KD Lang is another powerful vocalist. Might not be for your channel, but I know you would appriecate her. Constant Craving is a good one, or her cover of Roy Orbisons "crying".
Give Joan Armatrading a listen, another great Singer/Songwriter, started out in the 1970's, a great singer and storyteller still going. Opportunity / Willow / Tall In The Saddle.
There are no zombies talked about in this song dude! Do yourself a big favour & have the lyric's handy because every single word this lady has to say is so true, Tracy's a Protest-type of singer/song writer & her voice is just perfect!
Saddest part is I'm a white guy that has opened eyes. My dad played Tracy Chapman in the 90s when I was a kid. It was music that helped me see the world. Hell I'm 42 soon.. all I can say is that No One person stops learning!
Thanks for reacting to this its a beautiful powerful song not many react to 🤘 She has a beautiful voice but you should see her smile !!! Check out her performing her song “give me one reason” with eric clapton !
Van, now that you've heard "Fast Car", and this song, please check out her song "Give Me One Reason". Very "old-school blues". It's my favorite song by Tracy Chapman. (Side Note: I've expanded my musical tastes since, but in the mid-nineties when Tracy really made it big, I was huge into hard rock and metal. It was basically all I listened to. I can probably count on one hand the number of artists from back then that were NOT from the hard rock or metal genres, that I actually went out and bought their music. Tracy Chapman was one of them.)
He did both of those. This is his 3rd Tracy react. My fingers are crossed for "Across the lines" or "Mountains o things" next. Van, when you are done reacting to her self titled album pleeeeeeeease listen to the whole thing start to finish, on your own time, for the Whole dang experience she meant us to have.
Crying at the doorsteps of the armies of salvation: Salvation Army. She’s talking about the charity. Great song. Nothing more powerful than a great singer with a a fantastic song and her guitar.
I don't think a worlwide successfull singer will do a revolution. Neither the youtubers 😂

She deserves accolades for her brilliant songwriting.
4 Eva Amazing
She deserves the Kalergi Prize for songwriting.
Isn’t she just one of the most beautiful human beings on Earth…in every way? She will always be one of my favorite artists.❤
I grew up on Tracey Chapman. As a child I could sing every word on this entire album. Bringing back memories ✊🏻
I love this entire album.
My mum used to play Tracey 24 hours a day. She was trying to raise me humble.
Wow me too I still can recite every song even when I’m not aware I knew it ahaha
Wow.
It’s one of my top 10 albums of all time!
So glad you are giving Tracy the playtime she deserves.
She is an amazing song writer and loved her voice.
Took the words out of my mouth. Love this deep dive

Her voice is so beautiful! Her music is timeless. Love some Tracy!!

They are being suppressed. Look at how many lies the media told about Oliver Anthony
Her voice is beautiful distinctive & one of a kind. When she performs you know instantly it's her. I really dig how she goes about her song & pulls you into her song & the skill she has to transcend
She always gives me goose bumps
She's extraordinary. This song is the sound of generations of poverty, stifled and belittled and ignored.

One of the best singer song writers of our time that so many people have never heard of.
This song is so fire!!!!!

Behind the wall is one of my favorites. She also did a kennedy center honor for buddy guy playing a real bluesy version of "Hound Dog". Just great

Crying on the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Interesting fact, Tracy Chapman once had a relationship with Alice Walker, the author of The Color Purple.
Always been my favourite TC song, simply excellent musically and lyrically. Powerful stuff
Talk about a BEAUTIFUL unadorned woman!!! If there is flawless she is!!
Thats why not many people have successfully covered her songs. You have to be able to sing and have a folk artist sensibility to make it believable.
I grew up with this song and a few others of hers and I still tear up every time 💓 Great reaction
Please keep playing more of hers.

Army’s of salvation, as in The Salvation Army ( a charity ) zombies 😂😂😂

"Crying at the doorstep of the Armies of Salvation". The Salvation Army.
What you're going find is that many, many artists sang about what is happening today. Another warning
