It'd be nice to see an artist who "gets it" give it a go. I can't think of any cyberpunk properties on the shelves of my local comic shop, to be honest. In fact, art like this and Jae Lee's stuff from the same era would stand out on today's shop shelves.
From my country, Chile, I asked for comics via catalog and when I saw the Deathblow magazine I found that work by Cybernary. I loved the style and when I read that its artist had died from that sad illness it made me very sad. Almost my age. To this day I remember his name and artistic legacy.
Around 30 years ago, I visited a local comic book store here in the Philippines that displayed a picture of Nick Manabat with a short message congratulating him for breaking into America's comic book industry. It was Filipino pride and an inspiration for the locals.
It's astounding to me that many of the modern self-professed comic fans (and creators) dog the 90s comic boom that the Image founders were responsible for.
Really appreciate your videos. It got me invested in comics again. I picked up the entire Ghost Rider 2099 run from the 90s as well as Manabat's Cybernary. Bit costly (Especially that final Ghost Rider issue JEEEZUS!) but with channels like yours as well as the Comicsgate creators, I think there's a lot of traction with making American comics great again.
Man , this still hurts. Coolest title of Image at the time I think Nick just did the art, but probably had a lot of inluence due to his style. If he's the brainchild, it definitely fits him. For me the magic completely died, the new versions were so 'light' in comparison to the darkness of Nick. They could have done a better job imo, or maybe let Jim Lee do it. His style went dark in Deathblow, it think it's the point where Jim really started to shine, he stepped up his already awesome style. NEVER FORGOTTEN! RIP Nick! ❤🩹
cybernary was so badass. nicks death actually fucked me up a bit. his art was damn good . to honor nick they should have canceled cybernary in stead of doing the money grab
That's really tragic. By the looks of it, Nick Manabat had the potential to become a huge success in comics.
Cybernary should deserve a continuation.

Glad to have you here, Cristian!

Awesome story! It's pretty cool that his legacy still endures around the world, despite having only worked on six issues.
Image comics had some incredible artists. I loved so many of their comics as a kid, but their art was just on another level.

That art is insane! I love image comics. I read them More than marvel and DC. You sound like Mark Hamill doing a voice , very nice
