- Lufthansa Trip Report flying from Los Angeles to Frankfurt onboard one of the new Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i on a nice afternoon, night, and morning over the US, the Atlantic, and central Europe.
A comfortable flight from Los Angeles to Frankfurt onboard the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8. The airplane was almost full, but we were lucky that the middle seat was free, so the extra space made this 11h flight a lot easier.
The onboard service, although it has nothing to do with middle-east airlines, was not bad. Definitely better than the one offered on my previous flight to Dubai with Lufthansa on the Boeing 747-400. At least this time the salad was not only lettuce... The pasta main meal was actually pretty good. Not amazing but tasty.
The flight itself was really nice: we took off from Los Angeles airport towards the Pacific Ocean and made a quick 180° over the coast back to the United States. We had some nice views before we caught the night. The ones over Las Vegas, the Nevada desert, or the Rocky Mountains were truly amazing.
The Sunrise over the Atlantic was also really nice. First, the intense blue colors, which after a short time, turned into yellow, orange, and red. That's the magical moment of any flight: 100% of the passengers are sleeping and the plane is in complete silence. The perfect atmosphere to enjoy the Sunrise at 37.000 ft. We entered Europe mainland over Brussels and flew on direct course to Frankfurt, where we landed after a beautiful approach.

My Mom (RIP) was German and since I was 6months old we always took Lufthansa 747 to Germany. Than one day we took Pan Am 747! Love Lufthansa
I was flying with Pan Am Boeing 707..from FRA to JFK in the 70s. Pan Am was a great airline, representing the United States. So sad it is gone.

@@TortingerSooo true. My dad and I flew on a Pan Am 747 to the Holy Land in 1985. The 747 we flew on on the way there looked like it was very well taken care of. Actual linens and silverware were used. For a kid of only 9 years old it made a great impression on me. The 747 we flew on to go back home to JFK was well worn. I just remember it being a very dirty heavy used plane. I think it was Clipper Ocean Herald. Pan Am was such an iconic airline that it was sad when they failed.

@carlos081282 flew all the way to New Zealand with masks from Germany and back again you get over it, and you can breath, better than Covid
From a young man to now approaching retirement, the 747 has flown me around the world. So sad to see BA has retired its fleet.
Agreed. I used the 747 with B.A. for some years flying premium economy then upgraded to Business. Always a comfortable 11.5 hour flight. However I wouldn’t be using them now even with the 747 as they’ve hiked the price and I get a better deal with another airline.
I heartily agree… the 747 is a Wonderfull aircraft. I remember being very disappointed when the 707 kind of became obsolete and now, unfortunately it’s the 747 I hate to see it happen.
Can't agree more with you--as an Australian I've flown the Kangaroo route back and forth from Sydney to London on British Airways, commencing on Classic 747-236's. I was so happy in the early COVID days (maybe just before) to see BA repaint one of its 747-436 RB-211 fleet in a vintage livery--only to learn shortly after that their entire fleet was 'retired'... QANTAS was even worse--we had six of the only 747-438ER aircraft ever ordered for passenger use, all of them barely 16 years of age, and all now out of passenger service, mostly sitting in the desert awaiting their ruin, only because they have four engines (like the A380) instead of two engines like the ETOPS A350 or B787.
@@Michael.Chapman as kid flying Qantas from Sydney to London a number of times in the early to late 70's, the 747 was a majestic beast to a child a true adventure only down side mums non stop chain smoking 🚬 during the flight.
@@TheVaughan5 as long as the "other" airline also has a similar large team of unionised, highly experienced maintenance engineers. Best to fly on a 53 year validated airplane (rather than a twin) along with ISO level accredited in-house, dedicated mechanics--especially if saving only money is the issue.
B747 are amazing plane. I wished more airlines will keep flying them.

This flight was wonderful. Video and shots from USA and Canada, Atlantic ocean and Europe. The Boeing 747-800 is one of the best planes ever for that trip. I like it a lot !

Qué hermoso vuelo!! Ver éste video me recuerda mi viaje a Frankfurt de 2015 y en 2018 a India también en el 747-8 desde Buenos Aires a Frankfurt y de ahí conexión a Mumbai. Viajes inolvidables con Lufthansa en el 747-8

what a smooth touchdown. At 22:09 you can see how long it takes for the spoilers to go from starting to full extension because they don't fully extend until the weight is completely resting on the landing gear.

Nice video! Even though the aircraft is relatively new, there's something so nostalgic about the 747. All my best memories of flying when I was a kid was on the 747-400 across the Atlantic to the US and to Asia, and was lucky enough to sit upstairs. Really miss this plane.

I have been on a 747 in my very first flight as a kid and have seen them takeoff and land many times. The most elegant looking plane ever. Plus the landings were always butter smooth. The 747 touched down on a huge cushion of air beneath it, and that made the landing on my flight butter soft.

If I understand it correctly.
RWY 24R is 2721m (8926ft). B747 8i requires a little over 3000m (at sea level) of RWY for take off.
That plane is so quiet on takeoff, inflight, and landing... I've never experienced such a quiet plane as this one. Enjoyed your review. Thank you!

I just flew that exact same plane "Brandenburg" D-ABYA from Chicago to Frankfurt on the 29th of last month. Great experience. Glad I got to fly on one again while they are still around.

That’s why it’s the queen of skies !! Hopefully there's a miracle or an overturn decision that makes Boeing resume the 747 production, even if it takes quite some time. 747 FOREVER !!!!!

Your take off from LAX flew over The Queen Mary. I spent a night on her a few years ago. I might sleep for two or three hours, but I love flying and have been doing it all my life since early 1950's. My dad always worked with the airlines (American Airlines then BOAC-British Airways. They changed names while he was working with them). I miss the earlier days of flying, mostly DC-6 and Boeing 707's, when they served breakfast, lunch and dinner, warm meals. Your dinner looked good but breakfast, awful. I have always preferred 4 engine jets. 747-8 is a great airplane. I'm already subscribed. I enjoy your videos. Thank You and Best Regards.

I have a similar situation. My father worked for American Airlines from the early 1950’s through early 1988. When I was very young, I took a number of trips on DC-7’s and Lockheed Electra‘s. I also remember when I was very young flying on the earliest 707’s. I remember back then when they were first introduced, some travelers would wait one or two days, or even longer, until they could be booked to fly on a 707. There was a sense a sense of elegance to flying in those days, even in coach.

What a great airplane, I used this one last time in 2010 with British Airways, I like the 787 Dreamliner but this is the QUEEN for a reason.

09:14 That’s actually Long Beach (part of the greater LA basin but a different city than Los Angeles) and it’s a great view of the Queen Mary! She’s been docked at Long Beach for decades.

During all the takeoff procedure we can feel the runway is in perfect condition, such a smooth rolling! This is what we called efficient maintenance.

What a luxurious breakfast ! Last time when I went to Germany (from LAX as well) on Lufthansa, the „breakfast“ consisted of a shrink wrapped cracker and a paper cup with coffee.
