  • Can you install 35” tires on a stock 2017 Jeep Rubicon Recon? Yes, Do I recommend it…NO! While the Jeep looks better, I am rubbing the fenders when I go over railroad tracks or hit potholes. Time to fix this issue. Yep, it is time for a lift. Which one did I choose? I went with the American Expedition Vehicles 3.5” lift. While I was adding the lift, I added a couple of skid plates from Rancho and Rock Hard. Thanks for watching the video, please consider subscribing and have a blessed day. It's comforting to see that AEV has finally updated the 5100's, on the Jk with the grey coating over the nickel.

    • @DunnageGarage
      @DunnageGarage  2 года назад +1

      They haven't yet. I spoke with a Bilstein representative at Overland West, they are working on the coating, just haven't got it fully implemented....

      @@DunnageGarage Are yours nickel with just the new style stickers on them or grey?

    • @DunnageGarage
      @DunnageGarage  2 года назад +1

      @@ZephyrRandD believe they are nickel. Directions state that I need to clean and coat them with a protectant regularly to prevent corrosion.

    I came from the Scott off road RC channel. I like the jeep that matches the scx24, and I like to see you go jeepin

      Thanks for stopping over. I am actually getting ready to redo the SCX24 clone to this Jeep. Also, if you see the blue JKU on this channel, you might notice that we run a clone SCX24 for that one too. Thanks for the sub!

    I enjoyed this! My 2016 JKU Rubicon is out at the shop getting this lift installed. How about the exhaust? Do you need exhaust spacers or a different driveshaft for clearance? What size tire on yours? Looks beautiful

    • @DunnageGarage
      @DunnageGarage  Год назад

      No I didn't need to mod the exhaust, if your only mall crawling, your drive shafts should be fine. My front drive shaft boot hits the exhaust when I'm flexed out. My rear drive shaft hits the aftermarket gas tank skid. My Rancho diff sliders (front and rear) do not work well....without clearancing them, with the Rock Hard engine and gas tank skids. The tires are 315/70 R17 Patagonias (about 34.5" tall when new). I did a video on actual tire sizes recently, check it out. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day.

    How much caster are you running? My steering feels a little floaty on the back roads with this kit. I’m at 4.2 but I’m reading I may need 5.5. Thanks

      The alignment shop ran the numbers as close to stock as possible. Being able to do that was the deciding factor to purchasing the lift. I also added a Sector Shaft and Track Bar Brace, With the lift and the brace, this is the best driving JK Matt and I have ever driven. Good luck and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.

    Nice Rubicon Recon, I have the 2017 Recon. Did you change the gearing? Or you still using 4.1 with Recon Edition? I just ordered an AEV lift with 37s.

    • @DunnageGarage
      @DunnageGarage  Год назад +1

      Factory gears on 3.5" and 35" I'm maxed out on articulation and stuffing the rides without rubbing. You will definitely need a taller lift.

      @@DunnageGarage Thanks for the reply! I should be fine, I'll just be heading to the dirt roads and river crossings while camping... No rock climbing at least for a little while yet. Thanks again.

      @@mason.mp363 Just be careful, I did 35s without the lift initially. I rubbed my fenders going over train tracks, going off curbs, and hitting larger bumps in the road. After a weekend of that, I ordered and installed the lift. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day.
