This video helped me so much deciding the size of the display for reading comics. I really tought that an 11 inches tablet would be too small, but it really isn't.
I recently bought an iPad Pro 12.9 and was checking out videos on how to read comic books. After your video, I just went ahead and bought Chunky Pro. It was cheap and I’m sure I’ll have a lot of fun with it. Thanks a lot for making this video and pointing out Chunky. Keep up the good work my man :)
Sadly Chunky seems to be abandoned now. Don’t get me wrong - it’s still a solid app with lots of features. My top fav apps are Yac Reader & Chunky. Just wished that Chunky had actual folder creation in-app & a more fluid sort & display method like how Yac does it.
Tachiyomi on an Android tablet is where I've ended up after wrestling with the limitations of iOS. Thanks for the reminder to read Berserk, it's been on my list for ages!
Thanks for the examples, I would’ve liked a top view side by side comparison at the end but you did a good job. Now I can’t decide if I want a 12.9 or a mini. I had an Air but sold it. Tough dilema.
Bro i totally agree about giant hardcovers or trade's. Yeah they are beautiful and amazing to look at BUT reading them is a pain (which is why my prefered method of reading comics is still the single floppy issues due to them being so light) I cant sit in bed all comfy and read a giant heavy TOME, it just doesnt work. So i read floppy issues but recently i decided to get a tablet because i do have a massive digital library, and its so much easier to lay in a warm bed and read. What pushed me to it was an incident last week. I was in bed, reading the watchmen hardcover and it was late, 11pm on a work night and thats how i end every night, reading a comic in bed till i get tired... Well, this time it was a alan moore hardcover so it was dense, in my sleepiness i dropped the comic on my face and the corner jabbed my eye and now i have an alan moore sized black eye LMAO So then i headed to youtube to look up peoples experience reading digital comics. Thanks for the video, it helped me decide to actually buy a tablet (not an ipad, becuase f* apple and their literal evil ways)
Great comment 😂😂 if you’re not an Apple fan dude I highly recommend the Samsung galaxy tab S8 plus! Comics look stunning on the oled display and I find it has a better aspect ratio than the iPad Pro 12.9
@@Graves1 I still didn't try a Tab S, but wouldn't the 16:10 aspect ratio from Samsung tablets leave blank spaces above and below the comics page? I really don't know, it's a honest question.
The video that I was looking for, albeit slightly longer than it needs to be imo It even changed my mind and now I'm even considering the iPad mini, which wasn't on my mind before.
I’ve been using the Panels app for manga since having an iPad. It supports local storage with the files app too, and is themed well to fit in with iPadOS. Have you tried it? If so, what are your thoughts?
hey ! quick question, it is required to have the CBR files downloaded in your iPad storage to use the app ? Or can I import them to Panels and then delete the files from my iPad afterwards ?
@@unmye You either copy and store your files into the panels app folder, or import them while in the app (which copy’s them to the same folder). Both have the same results, the files must stay in the folder in order to show up in the app.
Glad Berserk is continuing (rip Miura). I read a lot of manga and comics on my Ipad Pro. It has a big ass screen, but flipping it horizontally and propping it up on the lap works well. It's super nice to see both pages at once that was especially for the two page spreads!
You and me both man the new chapters were amazing!! That's a dope idea, haven't considered reading in landscape with 2 pages, will have to try it out. I agree the double-page spreads would pop more.
This is perfect. I ordered the mini to continue reading Berserk on it. I was using my little brother's iPad Air so far to read it on and I was wondering how enjoyable reading manga and comics would be. Looks like you answered all my questions :) Thanks !
After reading manga on my iPad Air 2 since it came out, I'm willing to give the iPad Mini a try. The size just seems right for how often I use the iPad, which I use for consuming content. I want something that will have all the comics that I haven't read yet and not be so bulky in bed. I like the Chunky app. It has many features, one of them being changing the tint to red, which makes it easier on the eyes in the dark. Great video, of course, especially since the new iPads are coming out soon, and I might just wait a bit longer for the Mini to be released.
What about 9th gen? Still worth and should I buy for movies, manga, comics? I'm from Myanmar,a terrible failed state and in a crisis and it's the cheapest iPad I can afford. Cause the state is doomed and even for this iPad 9th gen,I'd use nearly 5 or 6 months of my salaries.
yo how are comic books on the ipad mini. Just getting into them, red the killing joke first. Manga looks really good on it but im wondering how a colored comic book would look on a ipad mini.
Dont think he mentiones, but if you really want the best get the 12.9 inch 5th gen or newer (the ones with M chips). Those have XDR displays that are the best, but they are for ipad pro 12.9 inch only
Got a great deal for 11 inch OLED iPad Pro and can highly recommend it for reading and comics. Though if that’s the only usecase it might be overkill for most.
Thanks!! I'm using the 256gb storage version and have managed to fit all my stuff on there, I normally delete the files when I have read it but keep it backed up to cloud storage in case I want to reread
They are far from perfect. The only good iOS manga reader is Paperback which you ofc can't install because Apple and side loading it for a week is pain. This could be good but the amount of "no you can't do this because Apple said so" is driving me insane. I mean yeah, it works great, the apple pen is great, lidar is great but I wan't to use my device - and not a cheap device at that - how I want, not how someone else wants.
I had the exact same issue. I have a 12" Ipad and I just, can't use it for reading. I think its better to take notes with that one and get an Ipad mini to read. I was puzzled between getting the kindle or the ipad mini, but its just I can't stand that the kindles and kobos don't have color, plus, i've never had one before.
You kind of casually mention the matte screen cover, but don't elaborate. Since you've got one on all three (you say you'll be adding one to your PRO soon), can you elaborate on the brand you buy, and how much of a visual difference it makes?
I am using Tachiyomi currently to read manga/ manhwa/ manhua and planning to buy an ipad/iphone soon is there any app for reading manga on ios ??? As far as I know iOS cannot run Tachiyomi and its files. If u do know pls share the info thx😊
Just curious how do you read your comics. Sitting down on a desk or sitting on the bedside? I used mine when i commute and I have problem holding a big tablet, its uncomfortable with one hand
If I’m at home I’d normally use the 12.9 as I can rest it on something, if I’m going somewhere, definitely the mini! It’s perfect for portability. I couldn’t imagine reading in public with a 12.9 inch iPad would feel too weird 😅
The 11 inch OLED is amazing for graphic novels and manga. Some I like better on the iPad than the printed versions I own because the blacks and colors are so beautiful.
Is there an app to read manga/manhwas on iPad? I want to buy an iPad but not knowing if there are applications to download manhwas or manhuas stops me, which is what I read the most.
