    Full disclosure: a week ago I tried Meredith’s “technique” just because I had been judging it hardcore and felt like maybe I should try it before I judge lol. Anyway, I gave it a go and used about 5x more foundation than I usually use and to be honest it looked nice…AT FIRST. But after a few hours it was simply DISGUSTING! It caked up and showed lines I didn’t even know I had and when I tried to pat some of my oilier areas later in the day, the foundation literally just patched off. Felt gross, ended up looking gross, and now I feel validated in my judgement 😂😂.

      I thought this too at first and then I saw a video that sort of clicked with me, the PR team sent her this product and when you send a product out you should know that there is a chance that the people you send it to will not like the product. Obviously everyone knows how Meredith does her makeup and she wasn’t the target audience for this product however the PR team still sent her the product knowing how big her audience is and that she would more than likely not use the product as it is intended. I don’t know if it was the lack of research on their end or what it was but there is always a chance that the review could be negative and she it wasn’t her fault that the product didn’t work for her. I am aware how the product should be used and I was annoyed too when I first saw it but at that point why would they send it someone who does their makeup in such a different way than the product is intended for? The product is just what I look for. I have very dry skin and hate full coverage. It does have a smell in the jar that smells very floral, it disapates on the skin. It's very light coverage.
    I loathe the masks that beauty influencers insist on slathering on their (blemish and texture free in many cases) faces. It's a waste of product and encourages younger people to feel that they NEED to apply that much product in order to look good.

      I started to do my makeup when I was 12/13 for school because I wanted to fit in and be like the other girls. When I was 15 I remember going into shops buying the cheapest stuff I could find to fit in even more: eyeliner, blush, a matte foundation. And for a while that's what I'd do. Use a lot of product. Until last year I couldn't care less and started to change. I did more foundationless makeup, started using better stuff for my face. I went from full coverage to less to now a bit in the middle. I had a period when a ton of pimples decided to show up around my mouth so I started using foundation again to cover them and found the best for me. I've always been the girl with the pretty makeup. Hell even one teacher came up to me to congratulate me on how my makeup looked after 6 hours of school. What I'm trying to say it's that what came from the need to fit in became my passion. I use makeup as a form of art. To express myself. I sometimes post my looks on Instagram if anybody's interested in visual proof. Btw since doing my makeup more and in more diversified ways I learnt to truly appreciate the art of it and use.

    As a "Casper" white ginger girl, I 100% agree with you Robert re shades! I complain all the time about the lack of very very fair shades but I constantly have to remind myself that the options are so much worse for women of colour (those red/straight up Trump undertones are appalling....I'm looking at you Tarte Shape Tape foundation!) - and that even though it sucks that I can never find foundations that match (especially affordable ones), at least I don't experience racism. If foundation shades are the worst of my problems, I'm so insanely privileged! Brands need to up their game and stores need to have ALL shades available, not just the ones they think they'll sell more of. I'm sick of seeing 50 shades of beige in every makeup store. We know brands can make an inclusive line - look at Fenty, Nars, Lancome, Rare etc. It's clear the other brands just don't think it's worth their time. Not good enough!

One is probably a matter of companies not thinking there are enough pale people to sell those shades to, the other is them just not caring about dark skinned POC. Same problem yeah, but for vastly different reasons that need to be considered.

The demographic here is such that in order to feel I had a good working kit, I bought everything I could afford from lightest to darkest shades. And I hated that the dark shades always looked exaggeratedly off, like stage makeup. I didn’t feel good about the end result I was able to achieve with what I had. I love how diplomatic you’re being, Robert. But Meredith’s TT was just plain dumb and I’m positive it was done for the sole purpose of going viral. And that sucks. I remember when the makeup community on YT was basically Michelle Phan and Lauren Luke. I don’t think all of their techniques were the best, but overall they were informative and I learned SO much from watching them. It saddens me that people learning to do their makeup nowadays have to weed through content like this. Just like I was baking for years, copying YT influencers, and wondering why it didn’t look good on my super dry skin, they don’t know that what these influencers are putting out there is for the sole purpose of clicks, and not actual instruction. I’ve seen NikkiTutorials do some pretty whacky things on TT which I’m sure are for clicks but you know the difference between her trying something for fun and sheer outrageousness, and when she’s leaning more toward tutorial. I feel like most of the foundations I've seen have a little bit of neglect on the fair side(I'm very pale and usually the shades are too dark or too yellow for me on the fair side) and a shit ton of neglect on the deep side, then completely oversaturate the light to medium tones. I also find it hilarious when these brands made a big deal of how many shades they have. But, having 40 shades isn't really inclusive if 35 of them are only in the light to medium range.
    Also to add, that video from meredith and backlash from it actually made me want to buy the jones road foundation. 😂 Both the original video and the second one where she actually used it the way it's supposed to be(then still gave it a snotty negative review). It's obviously not something meant to build up which is why it didn't work for her application, but it's exactly what I want!
    Edit: Speak of the devil, the foundation just arrived and my first impression is: I love it. Need to test how long it works but it did exactly what I expected and just evened out my skintone and hid the redness. It doesn't cover really bad blemishes but I didn't expect it to. Not a big fan of the smell though.

      You can legit just use white concealer. And then of course there are cheap but good color correctors from like every drug store brand.

    • @arcaderat1613
      @arcaderat1613 2 года назад +3

      @@reet7060 I actually do use white concealer as a highlight shade. As for color corrector, are you referring to mixing them with a foundation? Because that would just be incredibly annoying to have to mix a custom color every single time I'd want to do makeup, plus it could alter the consistency of it. Outside of that, I'm not sure how a color corrector would help with a foundation that is the wrong shade.

    I know this is old, but Jones Road beauty has been pretty clear in every promo they've released that that product line is for 1) mature skin 2) dry skin (which mature skin tends to lean towards) and 3) a realistic amount of product used for a natural look. If she really wanted to like the product, like she stated, then she would use it as it is intended.

    I love that your no bullsh*t about things. You don't love kiddos so you don't pretend to. And if you feel that an application is not going to work, you don't pretend and tell people to do it! I adore that you're not rude about it though. You're qualified and act professionally. But I also love the side of humour. Love you bunches. From Canada xo 🇨🇦🍁

    I applied foundation the way Meridith does when I was in 6th grade... I'm all for using clean fingers to apply don't get me wrong. I actually get grossed out seeing it on her lips. I really liked your point of "no one would do this without the intention of going viral"
    Also not to mention the amount of product she's wasting!!

    This is why I like what Juvia's place did, they included everyone with their foundation, not just 100 shades for darker and 5 for lighter skin tones, they made sure they had a balance to include the lightest and the darkest skin tones.

    I think Lisa Eldrige has a really genuine diverse shade/tone for darker skins and if you are unsure you can buy the samples for 4 quid I think and test them out, plus she has all skin colours/tones on her website to help with your choice. It is on the slightly expensive side, but I have totally found my shade and tone and I am sticking with it!!

Let the Professionals be the Professionals and let the MUA/GURU/REVIEW channels just be that! Yet here we are, all jumbled together and the regular consumer has no idea. You are loved! There is such a huge difference between the YT beauty community and the Tik Tok, and not only that but the comments too 👀 I think a lot of it is the age demographic and possibly the types of people who gravitate to one over the other but damn, that girl Merideth really tried to make that JR wtf balm look so bad. Even the way she talked in the video sounded snobby and above then. I get applying excess amount of product is her thing but still, she had to have known wtf she was doing. Not only that but the comment sections on tik tok in her video and those calling her out are just crazy. You got a lot of people saying she used to much and then you got these people out here saying “but um it’s literally her opinion.” But how can she form a legit opinion on a product when she used half the jar, also should we really be trusting someone who uses 1/4 a bottle of foundation every time she does her makeup? Prob not 🤣
