Amazing video man I love the sound of this truck do you think you could please see if you can do a really really really long driving video and include the engine starting up because I would love to hear what that sounds like. Thanks man and stay safe.
Some nice bends and gradients to give your ears a work out lol, I drove a tanker ( leyland Bison ) and also a mammoth major tanker both fun to drive but you know you've done a day's work by how deaf you'd become by the end of the run.
The wagon you are driving is a late model Ergo Mark Five built from 1975 onwards if it has the headlamps in the bumper and full width slatted grille with elephant ear sidelights and indicators. RHM Foods based in Stroud had the Bison 3 axle model bodied as bulkers with the same TL11 engine, an upgraded AEC AV691 twirling a 9 speed Fuller Road Ranger. Does the wagon have an Albion Hub Reduction rear bogie and Alford& Adler front axles?,.
Octopus meant it was a 4 axel truck giving it 8 wheels (hence Octopus) Hippo, 3 axel same truck with only one steer axel. Octopus very popular in N Z on stock and general freight and Hippos on bulk work. Both trucks pulling trailers and operating in the 37 to 42 tonn gross weight range in the early 70s to mid 80s. The 10 speed Leyland box struggled in N Zs hilly terain at these weights so at the first sign of trouble was usually replaced with a 13 speed Fuller. You did not need a rev counter with the Fuller box as the different octave coming out of each gear told you what gear you were in and weather your next change should be up or down. Spent a fair amount of time in the Leyland Ergomatic cabbed trucks and found them comfortable and good to use. Mal Silich

On Wikipedia it says the Octopus was a 30's era truck. Did we have our own Antipodean version in the 70's?
