    Hello niche personal problem here, I wanted to share why I equip my CCW with a magwell (GL43 X w/shield arms mags), who knows maybe it will help someone else out.
    I'm in construction, lifting heavy objects, climbing around in tight spaces, fixing equipment, etc, etc. One time I was climbing into a tight space on the back of our line striping truck and a corner caught the baseplate of my mag at the perfect angle. It broke and ejected all the rounds out the bottom. Signs of abuse on the bottom of my mags has always been common with the work I do. Ever since I added the magwell my base plates and bottom of the grip haven't suffered.
    Obviously this is small potatoes. But having the extra bulk on the bottom is a good trade off for my personal situation.
    Thanks, Great video❤

      While most of my firearms have magwells, the thing to remember for those who are new to them or don’t train with them every often, is the fact when doing a quick mag change with a mag that sits inside the magwell, you must ensure that the mag locks in place. I have seen it even at competitions, where you hear the beep and then just the click of the trigger. That is absolutely the last thing you want in a self defense situation. Again, love running magwells, but I train with them regularly and I am always mindful of the possibly issues they can present. Take care, and stay safe out there.

    Good stuff. You're one of the most pragmatic voices in the gun space as of late and it's appreciated.
    One small thing I've found works nicely on Gen 5 guns for doing something small and magwell adjacent is taking a Magpul mag well and chopping it down to a grip plug. None of the dedicated plugs I've seen eliminate the way the arch at the back of the grip can snag mags quite like it. Adds a quarter inch of length and no width. Besides that and some small sections of skate tape for thumb indexing, I've not made a habit of modding guns, especially not their internals.
    I've tried a few triggers that mostly just disappointed me for the lack of improvement relative to their cost. Ghost connectors never seem to make a difference to me, but I've also only tried them in guns that had a thousand rounds through them and were likely already well broken-in with their factory parts.

      I have been daily carrying for 30+ years. I’ve been daily carrying a G17 with a P2 ACRO, a magwell from Agency Arms and a Surefire X300 turbo. I believe in RDS and an under gun light. The P2 ACRO is bulky for edc. The magwell is ok but not necessary; It’s my first and probably will be my only one. I believe that a light is very important. It might sound a lot to edc but it isn’t really. Your holster, belt and what clothes and how you wear them is key.

    Learned a lot and to the point winning my subscription. On humble observation about grip hacks, removed material is gone forever so be thoughtful, not hasty. As a 1911 Browning Hi Power shooter I was anxious to chop off the rear strap hump on a 19 Gen 3 but first applied stipling to the sides and front, and to reduce the grip circumference, ground down the 2 pointy pyramids called finger grooves in glock talk. Still dissatisfied, Traction grip tape from Instant Stipling remedied the issues with slippery side panels and the now flattened front strap. A mild sanding at the trigger guard root as recommeded in another Tenicor video solved the glock knuckle problem. These alterations were sufficient to address the discontent I was experiencing with the Glock platform without having to radically go further and cut off the 'hump.' As Lenny McGill describes the rear strap profile is thought out for a 2 hand hold to render instinctive pointing and the problem some shooters think it presents is a false flag, instead the traction and grip circumference should be taken care of before irrevocable amputations.

  • @MechMK1
    @MechMK1 6 месяцев назад +1

    One thing that I absolutely advise is to train with the ammo you intend to carry with. A lot of people carry expensive "personal protection" ammo, but train with the cheapest ammo they can find. It is very much possible that the gun may not cycle correctly with the "personal protection" ammo, or that it has significantly more recoil than you are used to, which throws off follow-up shots.

    I carried a G43X for a few years strong side. Shield arms 15 round mag, a SCD (striker control device), and a Trijicon RMRcc red dot.
    After 4K plus rounds, I finally admitted to myself that I hated it. The trigger is horrible and, at least with me, it took at least two seconds to pick up on the dot even with countless hours of practice.
    Sold it and purchased a CZ P-01. Built like a tank. Immediately shipped it to Cajun Gun Works for their $435 absolutely brilliant hand-fitting and another $90 for a barrel bushing. Next, I installed a TLR-8a green laser / light combo. Lastly, a beautiful Southern trapper holster.
    Now? I carry AIWB and barely even notice it after a couple of months of doing so. I can keep my thumb on the hammer while reholstering negating the chance of an accidental discharge. When I draw I easily can turn the light and laser on instantly and acquire the dot in a fraction of a second.
    Takeaways? A light/ laser is vastly superior to a dot for EDC. DA/SA is, in my humble opinion, a safer way to carry and my CZ is as smooth as glass. It’s not necessary to compromise on EDC by having to mod the hell out of a substandard Glock.

      @willr4880 7 месяцев назад +7

      If you can't find the dot then your grip is inconsistent. Which means you need to train more. Lasers are trash. Instead of being target focused, you're going to be looking for your laser because of your inconsistent grip. But you do you

    • @redfoot7951
      @redfoot7951 2 месяца назад

      @willr4880 you can do both...the important part is that you train with your setup. I partially agree with your point on lasers, until I took a class that simulated firing from cover...in which the laser is used while not exposing your head (think using a car as cover, or also point shooting). That said, "hunting" for a laser can waste time and get you shot.
      Red dots are fast both in low light, and precision longer distances.
      I'm dipping my toes into red dots, and 75 meter shots are getting really easy.

    irons are fine for concealed carry. you can train them close quarters very similar to how you would a red dot (occlusion). it just takes a lot of practice. as most firefights occur between 5-7 yards, i like to train irons at about that range. around 20-25 yards, if you've got a front post that covers up the target, it's unrealistic to train self defense at that range. be comfortable shooting torso size at around 15 yds and in at a .5 sec cadence or less if you can. dry fire, dry fire, dry fire.

      I don’t know why he threw “no U-shaped things in there” other than out of his own bias. And “a black rear sight is perfectly acceptable.” Because those are both inaccurate pieces of information that would’ve easily been left unsaid. Contrasting shapes are great for low light. They’re very straightforward. If you can’t see your black rear sight, you shouldn’t be shooting. Illuminating your position with a flashlight or whatever is not always a good idea. Marked rear sights literally extend the duration you can perform movements, make use of concealment, and do things like hunting. If you do things like hunting, the inability to sight in low light is potentially a daily occurrence. Hopefully that hammers home what an ignorant piece of advice that was, on his part. Don’t take my word for it, the evidence is omnipresent.

    For my big hands, undercutting the rear of the trigger guard for my middle finger of my strong hand with the drum of a Dremel has been extremely helpful. I also have put a slight lateral indentation on the bottom of the trigger guard where my support hand index finger makes contact in order to have a simple index point. For CCW, I would be VERY hesitant to use an extended mag release. They’re OK for competition, but I’ve seen too many people grip down and drop a magazine inadvertently under stress. The chances you will need a tenth of a second faster reload after expending a full magazine is very outweighed by the likelihood of making your gun into a single shot during the draw or presentation. Extended slide stops can be problematic also.

      I went with an "Overmatch" Model" due to the lockup and rear scallop that allowed me pry a mag out of the gun in a hurry.

My first shot from the draw or low ready is made using iron sights, follow up or shots where i take my time are made with the RDS. That way I never lose my skill with irons on any gun but I benefit from faster follow up with the dot. They aren't everybody's cup of tea. I'm of the mindset, batteries fail, irons don't.

    Bought my G19 Gen 3 back in 2017 and in 2019 I decided to "upgrade". When 2020 kicked around I swap most of the parts back to OEM. The only thing that isn't OEM are the Trijicon sights and the only accessory I attach to my G19 is Streamlight TRL6. I think the reason why many non-YTuber people like me "mod" our guns are because of the following Ytubers...
    A. That one YTuber who mod their Glocks and when you see it you wanna do it to your G.
    B. That one YTuber who guilt trip you but at the same time doesn't make it as if he/she is quilt tripping you that if you don't mod or make any changes on your G it means you're not shooting your gun enough.

    Great advice and I'd like to share a bit more that is VERY important. After you are involved in an incident you will likely find yourself at the mercy of twelve "non-gun knowledgeable jurors" who could not get off jury duty. The "enhancements" you make to the weapon can, and will, be viewed as though you had the intent to do the most grievous harm to a victim. This goes for the type of ammo you use for the pictures of zombies on the slide. The "more different" your weapon is from the highly regulated industry factory model, the more of a "hit man" you can be made to look. Also NEVER practice at the range with targets of black silhouette targets for a witness or video may be used to testify that you intentionally practiced shooting at people. Use only bullseye targets. All of this is EXTREMELY important should an innocent bystander be hit by one of your rounds. Lastly, have a good gun-savvy lawyer that you can call when the time comes. Remember, you have the right to remain silent and let your lawyer speak for you.

    After a couple thousand rounds my old gen3 Gluk 19's trigger smoothened itself out pretty well. That and maybe I just got used to it. I have fat stubby fingers and absolutely hate the finger grooves on the newer Gluks. Hard pass on those, plus I only carry the old G19 OWB these days because I absolutely refuse to shovel a striker-fired firearm without any external safety devices inside my waistband now.
    In the three decades since I first bought my Gluk I've changed my thinking a lot on what I find acceptable in a carry gun and my own methods of carry. Transitioning to AIWB has had a lot to do with my thoughts on absolutely required equipment on a EDC gun: DA/SA, external safety/decocker, and external hammer. I accept nothing less. Others can make up their own minds and follow tbeir own rules as to what equipment is acceptably safe for them.

    Tbh i run a carry with a comp, with cuts (not necessarily a choice on that one it was the slide i could get at the time, itll be changed at some point) a magwell and its currently got night sights. Yes all three points have tritium. I prefer this too, it allows me the better ability to align sights in a low light/no light situation even if i dont have a light to hand. Yes my comp makes my pistol longer but i also find it shoots smoother and im willing to add 1/2 an inch to a 19's slide if it means i get a better performing gun that im going to entrust my life to. My magwell is also flared, for me this is because i found that the grip wanted to ride out of my hand after three or four rounds no matter how well purchased i was on the gun, as im already a big framed guy whos first carry was a beretta 92x adding that slight bit back on wasnt even that bad and really, my flare is basically the same size as my mag plates are, its that small but it gives me better control and thats what i prefer.
    I think a better argument for this video should be "what to consider before modifying a carry gun" because really, range time and drilling is whats gonna tell you whete your weak points are on a gun. Yeah my carry gun to you is probably gonna be a hellish thing, for me its comfy, but its built to be something im comfortable with that i can hide that i entrust my life to because of the time ive got on it.

  • @therealjoshtodd

    While I agree that red dots can certainly improve speed and accuracy, i would by no means say they're "mandatory". With large optics like the SRO, I can find the dot pretty quick, bot on smaller optics like the RMR and especially micro red dots, i am faster with the irons. I know a lot of people are like that too. And as far as front slide cuts being unnecessary if you're using proper technique, I feel like you're not thinking at all. What if it's raining? What if your hands are sweaty, or bloody? What if your gun falls in the mud while you're taking fire? Front slide serrations are a good thing dude. Everything else you said is legit, though common sense.

    I think most guys just majorly put the cart before the horse. Most mods are done for the ‘Gram, and they don’t shoot often enough for any mods to make sense. You don’t need to CC a race gun. You need to spend money on ammo and training. Maybe night sights, a dot if you insist, and I think a light is a generally good idea, but anything other than that is usually done to look like a “cool gun guy,” and that’s just silly. It’s a concealed carry gun. If you’re doing it right, almost nobody is ever seeing it anyway.

    HOW TO MAKE YOUR CARRY GUN BETTER, IN 3 EASY, CHEAP STEPS:
    Buy a gun that does what you need from the factory (buy once/cry once)... Stop pretending to be an operator (you're not)... Train more with what you have(it's more important than a 200 dollar apex trigger)...
    This notion that every gun needs every option, every light Lazer and optic, super duper grip texture, speed holes, and super high capacity, is getting out of hand.
    The average encounter takes place at 5-7 feet, and no aiming or reloading takes place. All the "fancy" is for show.
    That said, it's your gun, do to it as you please. Just know people that know, giggle at people who dress up their 500 dollar Glocks to look like competition guns, then shove it in an AIWB holster.
