I've watched this video at least 5 times trying to prepare myself to do the drip system throughout my whole flower beds and veggie/fruit garden. You stated that it probably seemed boring to watch/not the most exciting video but for someone like me, that is exactly the opposite. I've watched the professional videos and they don't explain nearly as well as you do. I learn so much with every video you do, drip installation included. I've gardened since I was 8 years old and am now 83. You are a wonderful teacher in the gardening world. Now, you have inspired me to do that drip system. Come fall that is my big project so I have it all done before Spring. I figure if I just do one line a day I should be finished by February. Thank you for the wonderful service you and Aaron offer so many times a week for us gardening nuts. Oh, and I do believe you two have the cutest kids I've seen in a long time. Benjamin is fascinating me with how his vocabulary is increasing by leaps and bounds.

I found you when researching plants I wanted to order for my pots/garden about a week ago. You are so pleasant & informative! We live in a dry, hot as hades, clay infused rocky limestone area of Texas. I love your videos! I want to put in drip irrigation in the two back L shaped beds that I have finally cleared of roots from the ornamental grass & boxwood type shrubs that were there before we moved in 12 years ago. I wasn’t sure how to tap into the pvc underground pipes & I wouldn’t have known not to run drip system from the one pop up sprinkler & 3 risers that are in each bed now, but instead to cap off all but one of them. I hate the way they pour out water & whack the plants. I’ve replanted the beds except for the blue native salvias I kept and absolutely have to put in the drip system asap so your video really helped!

Great video! I'm new to gardening so I for one want to know every little detail about everything. Your channel has become my everything. Although I had previously researched affordable irrigation solutions I still thoroughly enjoyed the video and felt kind of good that I knew exactly what you were talking about without it being a total breaking news event for me!🤣🤣
For those of us in non high desert areas with normal water you could always tap into your existing sprinkler system and use something like Mister Landscraper (Lowes) to add actual plant specific sprinklers for your beds. Or if you don't have an existing sprinkler system you can hook it up to a faucet with timer. Thank u Laura for all you do. Monique, Macon GA

Awesome video. It’s hard for me to comprehend only raining twice or a few time more in the summer. It rains here all the time. Last summer was one that rained at least 2 or 3 times a week and sometimes more than that. It creates a lot of weeds!!! The pretty things need sunshine to grow and look good but the weeds don’t care! This type of irrigation would be good for my beds that are not close to my house. Thanks for showing us how to install.
    Have a great week! 🌺🌼🌺

Thanks! Super helpful!! I have the same problem with a perennial bed with sprinklers. I plan to cap outlying heads and try to find the main feed to that goes to that bed and run my drip system from there. Since it is on a separate timer zone than the adjoining lawn. I will cap all ends of the "abandoned" buried side just in case I ever convert the bed to to lawn (horrors!) and need in ground connectors.

How long should your runs be? I'm assuming it may depend on your water pressure, but I have no clue how to figure any of that. I like how you have a stem in each of your garden raised beds. I wish you had a video on how that was installed.

I installed a drip system this year. What a difference It Made.I used Soak'r Hose's for years, but they don't put water exactly were you want it.I set mine up in my Garden.I can drain it and roll it up at the end of the growing season, put it back out after planting.I can put exactly how much water, where I want It And on what plants I want.Soak'r hose's still work good, with all of the options you need to think about what your doing, water's not getting any cheaper.I cut my Water Bill by a 1/3.The City Came and changed out the Water Meter a month later. If I was using more water(a leak),THESE CROOKED BASTARDS WOULD HAVE LET IT GO UNTIL I CALLED THEM!!! BEEN THERE,DONE THAT WITH THESE BASTARDS!!!

Hey, that's exciting video for me! Excellent content and love how Aaron shows the pictures of the connectors evolved and how you are so hands on. Love it! ❤
I am no stranger to irrigation but I have a question:
Do you keep the tubing in the flower beds over the winter?
I really don't want to have to take them out. I am in zone 8, I do take the hoses out and cover the faucets but I only have 3 faucets and it's not big deal, but this will be for me. Thanks for sharing.

Camelia, Laura mentioned in video a while back that she and Aaron hire a guy in early winter with a big, heavy duty compressor to blow out the lines so that there is no moisture left to freeze. It may have been the video where she planted trees along the driveway, then installed tubing, then covered the area with landscape cloth.

Okay, so, this tubing that has holes in it, are those holes emitters? Like I mean is the water coming out of them controlled and regulated in some way so it doesn’t just spray? Or are they just regular holes and the water just leaks out? I’m just wondering if I buy that kind, do I also need to buy emitters to go on all the holes.

    • @cindybriggs8560
      @cindybriggs8560 6 лет назад

Lydia Speth it just drips out the holes in the tube that are equally pre-spaced instead of creating your own hole in a tube that has none. It's more efficient and less expensive than putting an emitter every few feet if you want to drip to an entire large area like she did in the video.

Can you convert part of a sprinkler zone into drip while leaving part on the sprinkler for the lawn? Or does the whole zone need to be one or the other?

Anita Hadley you can convert a head in a zone if you want and keep the other heads as is.

If there is mulch down and want to put new mulch do I clean up the old one or just put the mulch over it? Thank you for answering the other question I had about not having a irrigation system. Love ❤️ all ur videos

It depends on what type of mulch you are using. Organic type mulch breaks down in to the existing soil and thereby improving it. On that type of mulch you leave the old and apply new when needed. On large nugget type mulch or heaven forbid rubber mulch it fades after a while and does not break down. That type frequently needs to be removed when it looks shabby and new applied.

I have a lot of problems with the connectors blowing apart. How do you prevent that?

Holly's Simple Life you can purchase pressure regulators that control the PSI. That way you get an even water pressure throughout your hose.
