It's a fantastic series which I would highly recommend, and this video covers seasons 1-8, with brief glimpses from season 10 and a subsequent film! It's quite a lot XD But the gist of this video is essentially their relationship through the lens of all the alternate versions of themselves that we meet along the way.
He's really well-layered! I think a lot of it comes down to Richard Dean Anderson elevating the character and infusing him with so many realistic and humorous qualities.
