20 years ago I attempted a flower garden quilt on the machine (I was 15). I am inspired to hand sew one in honor of my mother who not only machine sewed but also hand sewed. She ended up finishing my mountain of a project.
This is one pattern that is so well suited to hand stitching. One can control exactly where the patches start and stop. It also goes faster than one would think. Enjoy!
Thank you for showing this time saving way of sewing hexagon blocks. Now putting together grandmother's flower garden doesn't seem so daunting. Wish I had known this method a few blocks ago! You are awesome!
I have such a hard time using a thimble. My fingers have to feel the needle. Yes I do poke myself often. I am trying to get used to the idea of using one though.
Once you find a thimble that fits and you like, try to remember the 21 times rule. It takes about 21 times of doing something to make it a habit. I use one most of the time, but it still gets in my way sometimes. I'm right handed and now use my left hand to sew the bottom of a yo yo so I can sew all the way around.
It is a regular metal thimble; stores that sell fabric and thread and sewing tools sell them. I always have to try them on before I buy. Hope that helps!
Here are the dates: Part 1: Nov. 8, 2020 (Part 1 and into to 2) Part 2: Nov. 15, 2020 Part 3; Nov. 22, 2020 Part 4: Dec. 1, 2020 End: March 1, 2021 I hope this helps.
I love your work! I love hand sewing too. I’m wondering what is the difference between your method and the English paper piece method. Why do you prefer this method?
Way back when, I started sewing with what I had and never saw English paper piecing. I am comfortable, most of the time, with hand and machine stitching without the paper. This quilt is really larger than I thought and will take a while to quilt by hand. But, the pattern, especially this size flowers is really fun to quilt. Thanks for commenting!
@@StephanieKitchens4340 ok that makes sense. My grandma taught me to sew squares together by hand and that’s how I like to sew now. I am going to try your method and make a hexagon quilt. I don’t see why people like to do all the work using paper, this method makes more sense to me. Thank you!
Very imformative!! Thank you. I look forward to watching more
Thank you!
