What an unusual block! I really like it! Thank you fir this. Also appreciate the time stamps. When I am ready to make this it will be easy to find the instruction.
I really like this one
The finished 4 quilted block throw is ready for Jan. 12- #246-Follow up to 246. It is big and fun! I have a new jelly roll set and keep thinking about doing another quilt.
This is awesome ❤
24" !!!I I finished the red, white, and blue quilt and was very glad I only did 4 blocks! But, it is so neat!
Love the run back stitch yes great idea
Thank you.
Very pretty! Thanks for the thorough demonstration. I've never made a chevron quilt but have always wanted to. You make it look easy. 🙂
I find soooo many patterns that I want to repeat over and over. This is one of those. Enjoy this project!
😊
It’s very dainty, but not overly so. I wonder, will using a little glue instead of straight pins work? We are going to see these yo-yos after gluing. Saves me time. Also, would using the zigzag stitch on the machine be ok? You still they the gathers on the yo-yos. I’m going try this on a pillow. 😊
I discovered fabric glue when doing a really large project, and it really was nice to use. I have seen examples of yo yos top stitched, but have never tried it. I agree with you about doing a smaller project (pillow) first. Thanks for commenting!
What's the minimum length of your orphan strips?
This pattern sets 8" and that is plenty.
Love this
My Chevron Finale is Dec. 15...Video 244. It was a fun project and probably one to repeat. Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing this quilt. It is a greabusters buster.
I was really a fun way to look at my fabrics and use some of my favorites. Enjoy!
Thanks. The partial seam makes it easier to put the 4th, last strip on? Excellent idea
I liked trying that, too.
Researching hexi sizes and never knew about the circle method. Good instructions. Thanks. Just wondering if it ends up too thick?
It makes a more cushy shape. I like using it to make smaller pillows, too.
Thankyou ❤. I really enjoyed your video. It was very helpful. Now this is another quilt on my wish to do list 😊
I have mine using this plan ready to be quilted. When I share on a video, you will see that because of my colors and the 1 1/2" side strips I needed to change the 5" strips. It is really a fun quilt , and I found pretty fun material for the backing.
That's lovely.
I was surprised how differently the yo yos looked on the black background.
Gorgeous quilt!
It was fun to make, even though it was a big project.
❤
Thank you!
Pretty quilt, Stephanie. I love the chain effect throughout your quilt. Yes, I do agree, making large blocks is time consuming, I made Jenny Doan’s Calico Star Quilt and I believe those blocks were 24”, I’d have to go back and look to be sure, but they were huge, the entire block was HST’S. You sure get a lot done in a short time, you must have some elves that help you,😂. I look forward to seeing what you’re going to do next.
My answer is that I am retired and sew, mow, and walk. No helpers any more. I can't imagine a 24" block! You like a challenge, too.
Where did you get your thimble?
It is a regular metal thimble; stores that sell fabric and thread and sewing tools sell them. I always have to try them on before I buy. Hope that helps!
very nice. I love both of those blocks
It is such a nice block even through it is larger.
Hi Mrs Stephanie! Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into your videos! I just wanted to say hello and check in on you! Hope you are well!
Thank you for checking in!
@StephanieKitchens4340 you are most welcome ! I'm looking forward to the next video!
Thank you for explaining this so well. When I was a newlywed, many many years ago, my neighbor was hand stitching one and I fell in love with the pattern but never learned to do it. I think I’ll try now.
That is great!!!
How do you close the folded side?
When I do the final press, the shapes tend to stay folded. When I used them for throw pillows I didn't need to do anything. A small drop of permanent fabric glue should work when needed. Of a small, knotted stitch that does not go all the way to the front. I hope that helps. They are so much fun to make and then incorporate in a project. Enjoy!
How about a quilt do you need to tack the folks shut?
😅 folds not folks
Thank you for doing this video! I saw the pattern in an old quilting magazine, and wondered how it would turn out for sure. Wonderful!
I some reservations, too. I was really pleased at how pretty the yo-yos were on the black fabric.
Did you need to use a stabilizer?
Not when I was making aprons and practicing. Now, I might use it if I needed more support for a project.
I have been watching some of your "vintage" yo-yo quilt videos, and thought "Why not go back to the very beginning of her RUclips channel and see where the numbered episodes begins." To my surprise, one of the first things on your channel is a short video of the Cartecay River in Ellijay, GA. Our family recently found out that we have some significant family history in the Ellijay area, and we have made a couple of trips to GA (from Texas) to find out some more about our roots. Lo and behold, we went to the genealogy section of the public library and found that my brother, my sister and I, and all of our descendants, qualify to be members of the "First Families of Gilmer County, Georgia," so we promptly joined up. Ever since we were there, I have been trying to describe to people here in Texas how beautiful that part of Georgia is, but words fail me, and even photos do not do it real justice. I tell them they would have to see it to believe it. We have several ancestors buried in that area, and some of them even founded churches there. Thanks for the lovely video of the Cartecay River in Ellijay. It's the best thing I have seen all day! Oh, and thanks for the yo-yo videos to. Your work is gorgeous.
Thank you for your comments! The history of your family in GA is so neat!
Do you have a video showing how to hand quilt?
I never learned how to quilt the traditional way. I did 'push and pull' stitches on an embroidery rack and later bought a round hoop on a stand for quilting. In Video 17 I share the rack and how I stitch.
These are awesome..you do such great work. I wish I could get my left hand to rock and get my hand sewing mojo.
Thank you so much!
Really appreciate this video!! Thanks for wonderful lessons. It's beautiful!! 😊
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much Stephanie... I absolutely love your work and simple style of explaining how it works. Nostalgic and comforting in this new world of craziness. Thank You So Much Ma'am 💖 Blessings to you.
You are so welcome!
Very pretty, very cohesive colors.
Thank you! 😊
Love your work
There are so many neat patterns!
Great tutorial and neat project! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Love this project!
I really wondered if people would like the yo yo on black. But, they did!
AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing this project.
Glad you like it!
I love the yo-yos!❤❤❤ Your tutorial was very informative and easy to understand. Awesome projects as well. Thanks for sharing!
The pillow turned out so well. Thank you for visiting!
This is perfect, i have been looking for patterns i can use up scraps on
It will be shockingly beautiful!
@@StephanieKitchens4340 I am cutting 2.5 inch squares to make the reduced crossroads quilt....and I am using old clothes to make yoyos . I will do a video soon...
Welllll I’m so happy to have stumbled across your channel!!!🥰 Thanxabunch ❤️😀
Enjoy!
Glad you are back. You were missed
Thank you! I am so fortunate. My doctor noticed a heart murmur 2 years ago and paid attention to it. In July I received a new aorta valve and I am feeling better!
Thank you! My mother used to make these, but I never tried. Now, one of my sisters and I are going to work together and make these. This looks exactly how our mother did it. Great, concise video!
Great! It is so fun to do this pattern with someone else. Just don't go for a king size like my mother-in-law and I did! There are several other videos related to Cathedral Window.
Stephanie, I have to tell you, I have been watching all of your videos on a binge....your absolutely amazing! And I wanted you to know you have inspired me and taught me several tips and tricks and I appreciate you! I am starting a yoyo quilt and a hexagon quilt
Thank you for all of your information! You made my day. I loved teaching and continue to do it through my channel.
@@StephanieKitchens4340 thank you so much!
Absolutely beautiful quilt
I am so glad you found this pattern. I have to say it one of my favorites! Thank you!
YOUR SO MASTERFUL.....
Thank you! Enjoy!
I LOVE THIS! I do epp and I have a 5" hexi template! This is PERFECT! I JUST SUBSCRIBED...THANK YOU!
Update on the edges: I did not make the edges straight. I liked the large scalloped looking edge. It seems to make it look older. This is one of my favorite new ideas and my family really liked it. Enjoy!
@@StephanieKitchens4340 oh I will definitely try that
I’m wondering if trimming both triangles from the pineapple squares would reduce the bulk more, rather than just trimming one.
My fabric was not bulky. It might really be helpful if fabric is heavier!
What a beautiful quilt! I’m such a beginner at quilting and you explained it so well. I will definitely make a table runner with this design. Thank you Stephanie.❤️- Valerie
Enjoy making something you really like!
your quilts are beautiful. One question for you...what size are the individual yo-yo's? Wouldn't that make a difference in calculating the size of the quilt?
For this quilt, I measured the squares of 25 yo yos and then figured how may 25 patch blocks I needed. And yes, the larger yo yos will require changing your size.
My Tia used to have the most beautiful pillowcases with this embroidery style on the hem. Thank you so much for making this video and unlocking that memory for me! <3
You are so welcome!
Hi Stephanie, I've made 2 quilts using this technique. It's a nice process. I found it a bit tricky when i sewed the strips into a loop; the bottom seam bubbled and I didn't know if I was to iron it flat etc. I focused on the top row lining up with my ruler and just went with it. It all works out in the end somehow!! ha ha
I'm glad you could follow my directions! I added a 234A to clarify 234. Thanks for the comment!
Exactly what I wanted to do, took some looking but I found this tutorial! Thanks
Great!
Very helpful! I appreciate the hand stitching, which i prefer because it is so relaxing for me. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and great instructions🤗👍🏼
You are so welcome!
