  • I'm using my CNC router to make a travel-sized backgammon and cribbage board, inlaid with epoxy and colored mica powder. In this first installment I introduce the project, mill the wood to size, and set up the CNC router to cut the inlay pockets on the backgammon board. See brainright.com... for more info and links to the tools, materials and software I used.

👍👍😎👍👍. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks for detailing the good with the bad. I tend to learn much faster from mistakes than from meticulous planning. Just need to plan for the inevitable mistake, such as making practice boards 😜

It's good to learn from one's own mistakes, but far better to learn from someone else's mistakes!

Good video, Jay! I love your methodical approach to things; mine is the same but you convey it well on video. Looking forward to the next video. Oh, and your animation was cool!

Thanks for the video, I enjoyed watching it! Choosing a down-cutting bit kind of saved you, as they tend to get pushed into the chuck when it's loose. An up-cutting bit would have been sucked into the material and had likely sheared of. Thanks again, looking forward to watching the next part.

Thanks, yes I was lucky to be using a downcut bit. Although having an upcut bit sucked into the material might have made a more interesting video. :-)

DO you have planss that can be shared with us?

I would be glad to share plans but I don't really have any in a form that would be useful. I generated my g-code files from Fusion 360 and sent them directly to the CNC router so I didn't make any printed plans.
