They complained. Ragnar showed them he can complain too, and it's not making anything any better. He's also saying "who could do better?" and nobody answering says enough.
The way Ivar looks at him. Pure love and admiration, whilst also knowing, that if he had legs, he would challenge his father and make him proud while doing so
He actually wants someone to replace him, someone ambitious, that gives him his ticket to Valhalla. This is why he searches for his righteous death in a manner that inspires great leaders in his people.
Yes and no... The show is far different than the Saga, however, in the show he states he no longer believes in the Gods before he died when he was with Ecbert. From the moment Athelstan died he challenged the existence of the Gods which gradually led to no longer believing.... Again this is based on what they illustrate in the show, not in history.
@@billybob9269 since I posted a direct quote from said show. . . Yes. Yes I did. If u wanna argue if it held up to be true that's for the show to tell. It's not accurate to irl so mayhaps.
The funny thing is, if Ivar was an able bodied man he definitely would’ve stood up to his father in this scene. I think he’s crazy enough to try at least lol.
I wouldn't say crazy, but rather ambitious. I dunno though, Ivar genuinely loved his father, truly admired him even...So yeah, I don't buy that, sorry.
@@zaikohaitsugi I really think he might’ve stepped up. He admired him yes but at the end of the day the kid truly believed he should be king as he thought he knew what was the right direction for their people. Not that he would be dethroning his father out of malice or desire to rule. He was just very strong in his beliefs, all that being said this particular moment happens before Ragnar tells Ivar to be absolutely ruthless if need be. So Ivar had yet to become truly vicious, which is obviously something he’d come into overtime.
Awesome scene! I love when Bjorn casually walks into scene with his arms crossed and nodding his head at Ragnar! Man, this show is just epic. I’m in the middle of rewatching it again for like the 5th time 😂 so good
This is one of the best scenes in cinematic history....Ragnar’s character to perfection....one of the best scenes in Vikings and arguably in all of cinema as well....i can watch this 100 times...the power in the way he says “who wants to be king?” His eyes radiate royalty🤩 hats off Travis Fimmel you legend!!!!
Ragnar was tired but mostly I think that here at this moment he wanted to know who had the courage to step out and face him and when Ubbe had that courage it just made him so proud
Me and Ragnar. We share similar feelings. My best friend also died and I was never the same after. Went on a self destructive path. I'm trying to do better but those dark feelings are like tentacles that won't let go and keep pulling me down.
Maybe if you didn't abandon your family for like a decade everyone would still respect you. But the fight against injured pride and drugs can be very hard. The truth is that no one stepped up to rule Kattegat. No one had the balls to become the new leader because they knew they would not be able to fit his shoes. It is not easy to lead.
One of the many great speeches , but so very true sometimes is bad to be the king. When you back down no one wants to step up but they sure do criticize easy prior to having to step up.
Two things First he had to have had a absolute great time playing Ragnar. Secondly the little shoulder shrug attempting to hand off his sword is genius.
Ivar was smart, he knew his dad would outplay him any minute because of how tactical he is with his fighting style. he also praised his dad for his intelligence.
I helped downtown, balboa, pb, all of north county. Did it all while focusing on my career, girlfriend, mental health. On top of everyone betraying me through it all. I am happy and regret nothing.
Mm now that I've seen this more than a few times, the one that wants it can't even stand up tho he did not say anything and just sat there seething. Yet his father gave him and everyone the means, he did not look at him in all the words he said even after he stuck the sword into the ground. No one should be if they could not say, if it takes more than one to take it then they are not. "To take power you must be willing to bend down to pick it up" ~ King Ragnar
This must have been such a painful moment for Ragnar! Forget for a moment his role as a king...Think about his role as a father who hasn't seen his sons in at least a decade! This is soooooo painful...I speak from experience

Awesome make man. The Johnny Cash song is such a perfect song foe this scene. Badass 💯💯
Appreciate that my man! #Skol
It's a Nine Inch Nails song. Cash just covered it.
@Jason Platco this is my boy he remembers the original
@@jasonplatco7881 but this is the Johnny Cash version 🤣 fucking goofy

Exactly. Bro's entire point is that he's human too and has his own struggles. Smh it sucks to see him go
Ragnar understood that leadership is a form of servitude. And that, while most men seek it, not as many really want it when the opportunity knocks
Yes, servitude and deep responsibility even for uncontrollable aspects. Ragnar was happiest as a farmer.
This moment is so underrated for a tv show. I loved this show.
piensa. si puedes hacerlo.
aun piensas que tu vida es una serie??.
The way Ivar looks at him. Pure love and admiration, whilst also knowing, that if he had legs, he would challenge his father and make him proud while doing so
The way he said " and I just left"🤣
The lil dance he does with it gets me everytime
I love his little Jack Sparrow dance, it’s so funny😂
It always reminds me of Eminem somehow
🤷 and I just left sarcastically haha.

The acting on this show is phenomenal!!!!
I've just had this on repeat for 2 hours straight at the gym... powerful
