Thank you for your condolences! He was my first piggy, and we had a really, really special and beautiful life together. I'm doing my best to focus on being grateful for all the silly hat selfies together, the eyes closed naps on my chest, the morning kissies he insisted on getting before he would touch his breakfast (and him teaching all my other pigs to do the same) the popcorn's and the zoomies, the shared carrots and all the love we shared ❤️ he was my best friend and he is dearly missed.
VINEGAR!! always use white or apple cider vinegar when washing your fleece. Its nontoxic for piggies, and you will not smell the vinegar after the wash but it neutralizes the pee so it helps so much. Add 1/2-1cup vinegar in every large wash along with your detergent and you will be amazed how much cleaner everything smells
Yes! I agree 100%. I put some in the wash water and about 1/3 cup in the fabric softener dispenser (so it goes into the rinse water). It really does make a huge difference.
Yes, it's best to add it to the rinse cycle, then do an extra rinse to ensure all the vinegar is out because it is an acid and residue in the fleece can irritate, make their little paws raw & red. ❤
This is a fun topic! When you clean out your animals regularly, they really don't smell. What I loved when I had a pair, was that they smelt of what they ate. Fresh veggies and hay mmmm ❤. Great topic 😁🐹✨.
Yes, they have a "smell," but it's not a stinky smell (unless it's a boy spreading their musk around, lol.) I feel like they each have their own natural scent just like humans do. I like the "hay and happiness" description--I think that's very accurate!💜
Love my Harriet and Clementine and I can't smell ,but when my mom comes in the room, it's always the fresh hay scent and when my sister visits out of town, she uses my room where Harriet and Clem are and says, nope, no smell, lol. She teases as she has told others that I spoil my girls ---oh yes, but made a comment that poop doesn't stand a chance in their home, lol. Seriously, I have my Harriet and Clementine on fleece and with skinnies, I keep up with spot cleaning, do a full clean as needed and sometimes it can be as little as two or three days. I have werewolf skinny guinea pigs and they need oil baths. Such a topic too and Scotty, you are right, when I got both my girls, their skin was in horrible condition and both needed treatment baths with follow up care for fungal cream. Harriet still needs grapefruit seed extract oil every once in a while and Clementine, after her last treatment with fungal cream has not needed . Two different kinds of werewolf breeds and care. I wish I could smell Harriet and Clementine as they would smell like a piece of heaven....they are my heart!
@@cheyennejudithcw when I bath my Abyssinian girl her cowlicks are in a different pattern. Use a gp conditioner and she is so soft. I should make a stuffie like her.
I agree with you Scotty. If you keep your little furry buddies cage clean they don't. I love fleece because it can be washed. So it's up to you keep them clean and mine also cleans herself well I clean her cage.
I still washed my girls at least twice a year in the head and shoulders like you had said in another video. They were in shavings all the time towards the end of their lives they were washed more due to one girl having loose poops and they both had poops on their feet trying to avoid bumble foot which I did.
If you’re keeping the cage clean the only strong smell you can’t do much about is that testosterone stink boars sometimes get, it’s not constant and it goes away but it is a distinctive smell when it does happen lol!
Ginny pig smell and thay smell grait but they will smell if you don't clean out there cage all check them out then they won't it depends how well you look after them as .
The initial investment in fleece can be high but I think they pay for themselves over time. Especially if you can get someone who can sew to make them.
I'm on a budget so I use old towels I already had + dollar store fleece I put over. I also got a big fleece blanket for 3 USD at the fabric store (it was in the sales bin). I change the fleece everyday to keep everything clean. Never had any issues with their feet and it's easy to clean 😊
My girls do not smell but I keep their cages pretty clean. I love their smell and even when cleaning their cage I do not mind the poops and pees. I love them so much I just do not mind or I am just a crazy old lady! 😂
You use meadow hay as bedding? If you only have a few Piggies and access to a washing machine I highly suggest you transition to fleece. I have a lot of information about how to do it in the cage setup section of my care guide
My 4 1/2 year old male, Oreo, has chronic flatulence. It is really nasty smelling when it happens but fades away in a couple of minutes. He also has to poop and pee about every 30-60 seconds, so I really can't cuddle him anymore.
Have you tried Oxbow Digestive Support? We actually supplement our piggie-babies tummies with natural Fenugreek 'treats' by Rosewood. I'm sure he misses your cuddles! Best wishes ❤
Lap pads or a towel will keep poos off of u 😊 We have a senior girl who almost always pees on mommy, a lot! And I love her so much, too much to deny her cuddles, laying on a flannel baby blanket, listening to my heartbeat.
My piggies do not smell bad - my boys don't smell bad either. I have a big trash can too. I do laundry at the laundry mat b/c they have huge washer and dryers, so I get it done faster. I do brush out my fleece before I go to the laundry mat.
I can only go about 6 months before my boys need a bath. Despite cleaning their "pouch" of smegma..... They always always spray musk everywhere so that smell starts to get to ya around 6 months in and it's like. I'm sorry boys you need a bath. Momma can't breathe anymore when cuddling you.
@@neelymurphy6797 I honestly have never heard that term until just now. All I know is about a year ago when my younger pig turned 2 is when he all of a sudden wants to be the dominant pig and makes it his one and only goal to try to dominance hump my older pig. Sometimes it works. But mostly the older one shuts his attempts down by humping him instead. They have all the room in the world. And I see them sleep near each other so I know they get along. Their relationship is just bizarre
Thanks! Making his eyes roll back as he immerses in bliss, it's a mind-blowing experience, I did what I mentioned last week and the look on his face says it all, I learned the exact moves following Jevie Hindlerg’s advice. After go’ogling her latest it all keeps getting crazier!
Don't all intact boars have the instinct to scrub their butts on their fleece to purposely keep their strongest scents in their cage? And then they rub their faces in it and roll in it. I just don't want to handle them with my hands and snuggle them, those intact males are too gross for me.
my daughter say piggies smell of hay and happiness :)
yes! clean cage, clean piggie, clean smell!
Awww
Yes, she is absolutly right ❤
They smell.... like HEAVEN. My baby boy Jay, who just passed at 6 last month, smelled like oats and honey 🥺 I miss him so much
I am so sorry for your loss, sending ((hugs))
Im so sorry😢

Condolences on your loss.
My babies smell wonderful, keeping bedding always fresh. Urinary and vitamin c tabs keeps them healthy.
My piggies smelled like tenderness and happiness 🥹❤️❤️😍 .. another very informative video Scotty 😍😍
Just love fleece. Have made all my own piddle pads. Boys love them.❤ Boys love their bath not many don't want to wash the love smell away ❤❤

I always say they smell like warmth. I love the scent of my boys. Sometimes they get stinky but a bath solves that issue. Usually 3 times a year.

Can you tell us how you make the caged runs between cages please, it’s a great idea.
Every animal has a scent of its own, including humans. But guinea pigs don't smell bad unless they live in a dirty cage.
I love the way my piggies smell tooooo.❤❤❤
I adore the guinea pigs' ... scent! Never a stink!!! Even when they pee or poo. But that's me.:)
Vegans don't produce stink.

Yes ! Like beautiful perfume of hay ! Love my piggys smell ❤❤
Thanks for this. Very informative.

Off topic, but Scotty, how worried should piggie owners be over all the veggie recalls? I always wash thoroughly but still nervous.
They nice soooo nice 👍 ❤🥰✨️🥰❤️🌹
My cats love to roll and sleep on guinea pig used blankets. The musky smell is intoxicating to them like catnip.
My cat does this too! At first I thought it was just the fleece that he liked. But, no, he likes the smell of the dirty fleece!!
@gailterry3134 Exactly! My cats will overturn the gp laundry basket at night to sleep on these blankets.
mine cat cant wait until i give her the blankets each time i clean the cage XD
Hey Scotty how can I become a member of the channel ? I’m subscribed but I see comments from members… thank you 😊
Girls like hay mostly ❤ but my older boys do need extra butt baths! They are close neighbors, one is still aggressive and scents the area a lot😅😅
Ginny pig smell and thay smell grait but they will smell if you don't clean out there cage all check them out then they won't it depends how well you look after them as .
I love sniffing them
I cannot afford fleece and my girl doesn't like pine shavings. I use training pads and paper fluff.
The initial investment in fleece can be high but I think they pay for themselves over time. Especially if you can get someone who can sew to make them.
I just use towels i got for free . 😅

Just make sure your guinea-baby is not eating the plastic part of the pads. Even a tiny bit could choke or cause intestinal blockage.

Guinea pigs will pee on each other but I'm not sure about musk. Maybe it's a language thing
@ScottysAnimals my boys mark their territory constantly. That's probably the better term for it.

I have seen them rub themselves on it, but never their faces or roll in it! I have 8 males and have fostered many others for our local rescue.
@sherr1trow yeah but the way they rub their nose all over it when sniffing it and lay all over the cage where they scent mark
All of our guinea-girls scrub/drag their butts to scent-mark fleece, especially when adding a fresh pad 😅
