Lotus is my AOTY...and it was a huge year.
I somehow have never heard of Loathe before and just put on "I let it in and it took everything." Holy shit that was one of the best music albums I have heard in years. I was trying to get some work done, but after 30 seconds I dropped what I was doing and just listened to the whole album on my nice headphones.
Thanks Nik for doing this video and showcasing so many bands. I am more of a death metal, techy, black metal guy who is just starting to enjoy some of the newer deathcore stuff that has floated around on youtube. This video showed me a lot of cool modern bands that wouldn't have come across my radar, but are pushing the genre forward. Metalcore and Deathcore have changed so much since 2010. These new bands are much more musically interesting than some of the old ones. Video also featured my current favorite band Archspire, so can't be upset about that.
Oh God the Dealer thing still hurts. Saint is so good.

And I'm not sure why you felt the need to bring up thrash. I just don't understand why you feel the need to gatekeep. Metal is an umbrella term that encompasses every subgenre of metal. Whether it's nu metal, metalcore, thrash, death metal, deathcore, black metal, power metal, they're all metal regardless of their intricacies.

@Dragon Ball fans can't readThink ERRA is miles ahead of BOO in terms of songwriting and riffs, much prefer the vocals too. Not to mention Jesse Cash sounds nothing like Spencer, that isn't even an opinion. Not sure where you get the idea the vocals are copied.
@Dragon Ball fans can't read The vocals don't sound like Sotelo at all. And if anything Impulse kind of sounds like discovery which came out the same year as Impulse but Impulse sounds 10x better imo. If you wanna hear vocals that actually sound like Spencer listen to Arcaeon.

Haha asking alexandria was spot on for sure! 1 truely wierd transition. I remember the 1 time i went to see them in concert, before the music itself turned like that, and danny was just a complete piece of work and clearly didnt give an f, and didnt even try, and thats when you could hear him changing and just becoming garbage. I had been so excited for that conceet too because at that time they were my favorite, but sadly i missed them in their prime
i listened to "see whats on the inside" when it came out, and honestly, a lot of the songs are still in my playlist. so i was completely thrown off by the country comment, and only just now did i see the acoustic versions of everything, and that they have more streams than the "regular" versions. sad

i'm trying to listen to a lot of music from this generation. there's a huge chunk thats pretty good. when i was writing stuff of course things were different. some of the older people have a hard time accepting new stuff. it was brand new then so the sound and shock factor were whooaaa but thats because there wasnt anything to compare it to. my kid is 20 and sends me links to stuff. i always check it out. not a huge fan of metalcore but hey he doesnt like some stuff i do either. unless someone is ripping off a song then the musicians need a chance. thanks for the awesome sort of breakdown! its actually pretty helpful to someone who wants to scour for stuff but was alive during the spanish inquisition.

Great bands! Don't know if I would describe Orbit Culture like 'if Metallica where millenials'. They have some songs that remind me of Metallica but also more Death metal, melodic death metal. They have another take on metal than most other new bands
