I remember watching him on TV whether it was a movie or a performance. I would get so mad at my father because he would tease me about Elvis and it would make me so mad. lol lol My sister was actually going to his next show which was in Buffalo New York. Then we heard that he had passed away. So sad to see how his life had gone from 1to 1000 so fast. He had no private life to speak of. Just so heartbreaking. Having said this,,, he was one Hell of a man.

I love your reactions to Elvis! And your "vibe" about him is spot on. You feel what the whole world felt, and this is why he was and is still so loved. Not only did he have Charisma with a capital "C" on and off stage, and the most riveting personality I ever encountered, but people felt that no matter what their ethnicity, whatever their circumstances, rich or poor, he could sit at their table and would be a part of the family. And it was true.
Also, yes, the Sweet Inspirations traveled everywhere with him...They were his backup singers and also the opening act to his shows. One of them, Myrna Smith, has some RUclips videos about him that you may find interesting. Also, there's a good video called "Elvis and the Black Community" that you may like. Another great "rocker" song to watch is Polk Salad Annie... One of my personal favorites! Thank you for your authentic and spontaneous reactions...I was smiling all the way through just watching you! Godspeed....

Elvis preformed in the 60s and there were still some places that discriminated against black people and they weren't allowed in some places. Those back up singers three black ladies with beautiful voices went everywhere with Elvis and if anyone told him that his backup singers weren't welcome,he would not perform there. Elvis was righteous!

  • @KajunMoo70
    @KajunMoo70 Год назад +88

Those backup singers are the Sweet Inspirations and Whitney Houston’s Mom, Cissy Houston was part of the group. Elvis cared very much for members of his crew, regardless of color. He was set to play in Houston, not sure of the year, and when he arrived at the venue he was told that the girls would not be allowed to be there. Elvis said if they couldn’t be there then he wasn’t going to play. The management conceded and the girls were given the star treatment and they rode in a convertible that was driven around the arena, waving to the crowd just as Elvis did before the concert began.

    • @Cherryvanilla27

In NJ, Cissy Houston is a legend. When Whitney died, the governor lowered the flag out of respect. People criticized it because of the circumstances of her death but it was for Cissy anyway.

The ladies in the back are the awesome "Sweet Inspirations" who enjoyed much success on their own but joined Elvis per his request in the early 70s because he liked the soulful sound they had. and they stayed with Elvis for about 7-8 years and sang with him right up until the time of his death, in 1977. One of the members was Whitney Houston's mother - for a short period of time, until she resigned from the group to raise her family. The late great Ronnie Tutt on the drums. He had great chemistry with Elvis. He used to say it way like "drumming to a stripper" because most of the time he only seen Elvis' butt during shows.

Bridge Over Troubled Water covered by Elvis is better than the original or ANY other since. Elvis could deliver a song and actually make you FEEL it like no one else. There’s not been anyone, before or since, that can hold a candle to talents. I say talents because he had more than one, he had it ALL! He could sing about cow pies and make it hit! Elvis was humble to the end. He never took any deductions for his MANY charitable contributions, nor did he desire acknowledgment. Lisa Marie said once, and I believe it’s true, that he nearly gave money away faster than he could make it. If he met you and you said you loved his shirt, ring, necklace, what we, he would often take it off and hand it to you. He never forgot where he came from and never stopped giving back. I believe with my whole heart that he was heaven sent.

I have listened to Elvis since 1956 n im old now but Elvis music keeps me young. I never met Elvis but was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died n he told me many stories about his best friend Elvis like he was always nervous before going on stage so he would have the guys sing a gospel song with him before running on stage. Elvis got 3 Grammy awards n this was his favorite music. He sang everything from RNR, Blues, Country n more. I'm sure you have heard that he was the most generous man on earth like spent most of his millions on family, friends n people he just saw on the street buying people Cadillacs, Motorcycles, Jewelry, Houses, Trips n money to pay people's medical bills, money to building the Pearl Harbor Monument, Handing $5,000 to them etc. You could say" I can't even pay for presents for my kids" n he would get him many gifts, n I could go on n on. Keep those videos coming.

I have noticed and said damn that must have been really hard to do, specially after dancing around and singing for about 5 minutes and then stop and bend to one side and then the other slowly, and he got really low, try that and see how hard that is to do. What a fun reaction. I remember the first time I saw this and I was blown away. Everything about it. And as far as those deep crouch stances he goes into, not only does it provide a great context or switch up in the song, and in a way he kind of turns it into a total slow R&B song In those sections, but yeah maybe it's a bit of a breather, but the thing is to do those really deep lunge crouches and hold them, that takes an awful lot of core strength and he's still burning a lot of energy just doing that. And then to slowly rise up like that? Same thing. He's always been quite athletic. Even some of the earliest black-and-white footage where he goes nuts, he does some stuff it looks almost impossible, and apparently it was mostly spontaneous, it's not like you learn some dance that somebody choreographed and practice until you get it perfect, this stuff just explodes out of him. It always had.
Also, in these later shows, he is basically not only dancing but he is directing the band with his body and his eye contact and everything else. There's that one point in this where he's looking back over his right shoulder at Ronnie Tutt, his amazing drummer and good friend, and basically they just keep egging each other on to go faster and harder. And that bass player? If you listen to it again listen closely to the bass line and see how much that dude is just going nuts. The whole band is fantastic and yes he always has those backup singers with him in these later shows.
In fact, a year before this, when Whitney Houston's mother Cissy was one of the backing vocalists, he was going to play at the then relatively new Astrodome in Houston for the first time and it was going to be a really big gig. The day before the show, he was told that he could leave the black singers behind. And he also had some other black people in his band, including an incredible flute player.
Apparently, like you were saying, and this case he just lost his temper and got really angry and even though this was going to be one of the biggest shows for him yet and a huge deal, he said that if he couldn't bring all of his people then he was going to cancel the gig and he basically gave them an ultimatum. After a while they backed down and then he doubled down on it, and when they drove their caravan of Cadillacs and whatnot onto the baseball field and around to where the stage was, he made sure that those black singers were in an open-top convertible with all the attention on them. According to Cissy, it made a huge impression on them.
There are a ton of great performances from this show 1970 in Vegas, like Bridge Over Troubled Water if you really want to hear him show what an incredible singer he is. And then Polk Salad Annie is another favorite, it's another really energetic one. But there's so much fantastic video available from when he first became a superstar at the age of 20 in 1955 all the way up to his untimely death in 1977.
You can see him evolve along the way and it really is fascinating and it's always just so fun. Or moving and emotional as the case may be.
Oh yeah, I wanted to say one more thing about this performance. When he goes over and messes around with his backing vocalist Sylvia Shemwell, that's one of my favorite moments but there is a context to that. His whole band was tight. I mean he was a taskmaster in rehearsal but they also goofed around and had a lot of fun together. And a lot of them would horse around and do things like surprise each other by throwing water on each other and so forth.
But with Sylvia, they apparently had a game they played where they would each try to startle each other, laugh. So she had probably gotten one over on him earlier and he went over and did it to her on stage, which I think is hilarious. And you can see them both laughing their asses off right when he gets her, and then he does this 360 moving twirl thing and spins right back into action.
All of that is just so damn cool. And to think it was so long ago, and totally live, no auto-tune, and the live stage technology back then was nothing compared to what is common today.

You are a good reactor man. There were so many facets to hisbmusic. He did everything in the music realm. He loved his Sweet Inspiration, the Black ladies. Whitney Houston, mom was one of them. Watch " Elvis Presley Talks to The Sweet Inspirations". His rehearsals were as entertaining as his shows. Also watch "Elvis Presley Funny Moments". So much to him. I appreciate you. Be Blessed

Yes, the "black girls" are his back up singers, Sweet Inspiration I think they called them. The men before them were called; The King's Men, the Jordanaires. GREAT reaction Shon!

Good video bro, I love watching other people get down with Elvis, it's so inspiring because we know when he performs he's putting his heart and soul into it. When I watch reaction videos I feel like I'm sharing the moment with a like minded person.

Thanks for sharing! I enjoy your fun, and spontaneous reactions. I saw Elvis in 1974. He wasn’t quite as energetic by then, but great vocals, still so humorous, and entertaining. Probably the fastest hour of my life. So sad when they said, “Elvis has left the building!”.

That was a great reaction more Elvis please I subbed you are a good reactor you don’t constantly stop the song like some do Elvis is to good to chop up his songs he just moves you wether it’s Rock & Roll, R&B , Country or Gospel he sang it all with so much passion is in all 4 Hall of fames! He never was choreographed he just let the music move him & he was just a wonderful humble man who never forgot where he came from NEVER refused to sign an autograph in fact in his younger days they would rip his clothes off of him & he would say that’s ok they bought them that’s the kind of guy he was! There will never be another Elvis God broke the mold when he created Elvis he was & still is the GOAT!

Elvis had top notch backing singers and their contribution to the sound of the songs was significant. It's pure delight to watch your reaction to something so classic in the history of music. :)
