It's called recruiting. Figuring it out is what separates the good from the great. No excuses

People thinking and saying BB doesn’t recruit top prospects is just crazy. Go back and look at his last 5 classes. They all had what you classify as elite blue chip recruits. Have we signed 5(‘s like certain fans want and expect? No but what other coach on staff do we measure by them signing. 5*’s or not? If we did that then we would only have a couple of coaches that would meet that mark. Measuring a coach by whether or not he signs 5*’s is a pretty steep expectation to have and if that is your expectation then you will be disappointed. Now if BB misses out on all 4 guys would that be a big disappointment? Yes it would but that should t take away from the other elite recruits, Fodjie very well could end up a 5*. He’s already a top 50 player. So the argument that BB can’t recruit elite guys is just factually false and only based on ignorance and emotions.

I think our line hasn't been good to great since 2018. I still have faith in Coach B though. He's routinely placed talent into the league despite coaching changes.

Provided they stay healthy. I think Anderson and Burks are likely first rounders. Anthony would need a full season of health and production but he has a lengthy injury history. I think he and Gibson are early Day 2 guys.

Below is a list of 5 star players OU recruited throughout the last 10 seasons (by position). I included those who were a 5 star from even just 1 recruiting service, because let's face it, we get excited for those guys and place 5-star expectations on them.
I've basically placed these guys into 3 categories which will be summarized later: 1) achieved expectations/drafted in the 1st three rounds of the NFL (pretty fair); 2) underachieved or disappointed (college career was so-so and probably didn't make the NFL); or 3) a bust (completely failed at college D1 level). I tried not to use this term lightly.
    RB: 1 -Tatum (2024)
QB: 3 - Arnold (2023), Caleb, and Rattler (who greatly underachieved)
    DL: 1- Stone (2024)
DE: 3- PJ (2023), Redmond (only a 5* on 247; underachieved), and Clayton Smith (bust)
    OL: 1- B. Walker (huge bust....literally)
WR: 2- Haselwood (who disappointed) and T. Bridges (only 5* on Rivals) who was a bust
LB: 2- Caleb Kelly (only a 5* on Rivals; disappointed largely due to injuries...) and Robert Barnes, who was only a 5* on 247 and MUCH lower on other industry ratings. He was moved to safety and underachieved
    Safety: Peyton Bowen
Let's now summarize these 14 five-stars from the last decade:
5 who are still to be determined (Arnold, Bowen, Tatum, PJ and Stone)
Of the 9 who have essentially completed their D1 careers:
1 who met and exceeded expectations (just not with OU) as a heisman and 1st overall pick
    3 busts
    4 who underachieved or disappointed
1 who underachieved but attributed to chronic injury problems (I felt like putting this one on a separate line)
(So only 1 out of 9 had a good college career, and that player left after 1 season)
So what's the takeaway: Sure, OU needs more talent because we want to win a title and will be playing teams like Bama, Georgia, LSU, Texas on a yearly basis. That said, we need to be very, very cautious when getting our hopes up for the 5* talent that does show up. Instead, place more faith that the coaches have an eye for assessing talent and the skills for developing the talent.

I’m aware of the statistics regarding the percentage of 5 stars who have good college careers and go pro (versus 4 stars, 3, etc). That data is already widely disseminated by the recruiting service industry.
I’m just showing people that factually 5 stars haven’t done much for OU. I also wanted to show that BB isn’t the only position coach whiffing on such high end recruits.
While we do want all the talent, we all need to be reminded that literally half of the 5 stars out there are dang near busts waiting to happen. I believe BV and the staff have the experience, right mindset and approach to maximize the talent they get and will become a school where elite trench players go.

I’m aware of the percentages of 5 stars who make it to the NFL (compared to 4 stars, 3, etc). That data is adequately researched and reported in the recruiting industry.
I just wanted to show people that 5 star talent has done almost nothing for OU in the past decade. I also wanted to point out that it’s not just BB who is whiffing on 5 star talent. I think the reality is he is just in on more 5 star recruitments than most position coaches. I’m not giving him a pass, but bringing to light the recruiting situation that has been going on at OU.
That brings me to some closing thoughts. I think BV, BB, and all the staff have the experience, credibility, approach and mindset to figure it out. I believe they will become one of the schools where top trench players go to win and prepare for the NFL. To think that they could still land 2 top 8 OTs if they get Fasusi or Babalola makes it wild that people are concerned in July.

This is just my opinion. If a player sides to chase the money, do we really want that person on our team?
I think this is where our recruiting is shining. Some teams are going after the top 10 players who want the most money, we’re recruiting players that want to get ready to be successful at college and the next level as well as in life! Boomer Sooner. 🏈

Stacking up them croots like cordwood. On BB and Recruiting. He has an eye for what talent he sees, that others don't see. I like the thoughts of 5 stars too, that means a plug n play player in physique and traits, and abilities. it doesn't mean they will always be what YOU want. We need versatility, and guys who will submit to that idea and be a team player, not someone who will pout and leave if he cannot only play tackle, when Coach B sees this dude ain't tackle material, or we need a guard or center. It's easier to teach a guy who is raw, than one who thinks he has a fine bead on things, and isn't teachable, and he is all about $$$. I'd take the guy with size, 3 stars, and a humble teachable attitude, who I can mold and develop over that 5 star. Sure it takes longer, but in the end, you got a stud when he "arrives" that you can count on. And those guys are in the NFL. IOL are a premium catch and need in the NFL. That is why Creed was Coveted by the Chiefs, and started immediately. And sometimes Guards have to move out to Tackle in a pinch, and vice versa. Those who can pull it off, are even more coveted. Trust BB, he keeps on doing it, and sending them to the league, and many of them thrive. There is your proof.

Pathetic and weak take. Do you know how many 5 star linemen are even available each year? No, you don't because you're just an armchair know-it-all who doesn't know what they're talking about. So you're saying, if there's 2 5 star offensive lineman IN THE WHOLE CLASS, OU somehow is supposed to ALWAYS get them ahead of Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas ECT, regardless of what state the kids are from ECT? Based on what??? That's ridiculous. Sad how many of these clueless people are in the OU fanbase, it's truly embarrassing.
