"Who will love you now, Dumbledore?" 💔
Despite conflicting opinions on The Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore, I found it an interesting film.
Dumbledore and Grindelwald's relationship continues to be the beautiful story of two men. And the opening scene in the movie when Albus and Gellert are at the cáfe talking about their lives - fantastic!
Maybe Grindelwald didn't openly say he loved Dumbledore, but I saw that love in his eyes.
In my video I included fragments of trailers and a few scenes from the film (that's why some frames, because I was able to find only such fragments). As soon as the third part is officially available on the Internet or on some platform, I will make another video with better quality.

"Who will love you now, Dumbledore?" this is THE LINE
this line was so well written to describe exactly what kind of person Grindelwald is. He loves Albus, but he is cruel, he's toxic and pessimistic, He KNOW before him, no one deserve to be Albus's partner, their power, their knowledge, their dream and world view are the same level...and he WISH, after him, no one love Albus, the way he love, Albus love no one, the way he love him. That little shaken in Mads voice in that line makes me feel how regret, afraid, angry and hurt Grindelwald feel at that moment, he realized he is losing the love of his life, the Blood Pact break mainly because of this reason not just abt the 3 curse, it break because both of them disappointed and losing hope to each other
I agree! Grindelwald still believes that nobody deserves Albus but him. It is selfish but understandable. Dumbledore loves him and admires him because he understands him. And Gellert loves Albus for the same. By the way, they also believed in themselves, had similar interests, passions and a painful past. They were united by their love, but when Ariana died, Albus decided to "leave" Gellert because the family was more important to him. Grindelwald couldn't understand this because Ariana's use was supposed to be for the "Greater Good". Gellert saw no consequences, only a goal. He wanted absolute power, equality for wizards, but most of all love. Unfortunately, his ways of power were too drastic for Albus.
That's why Albus turned his back on him in this movie (not because he doesn't believe in Gellert and doesn't love him anymore) because he thinks his love will only bring pain. Unfortunately, Grindelwald understood this as a final betrayal.
@alhamiddun_ well, everyone has their own idea and explaination and definition about love, it also can be called a kind of love, he love Albus, and maybe he love his glory more, only when lost the real one, he still realized it
I kept saying "how dare he say that?!" over and over again after that line. Because that's the kind of thing your toxic ex says to you so you don't leave. To try to make you feel less than, to feel grateful to have them. Such a messed up thing to say.
@alhamiddun_ that's the vibe I got from Johnny Depp's Grindelwald, in Crimes of Grindelwald it did seem like it was all manipulation and exert control over a powerful person, like Albus was his little toy that he took pride in having control over. But that's not the vibe that I got from Mads Mikkelsen's Grindelwald at all, the way he plays the character in Secrets of Dumbledore, from the dialog to his body language in all of the scenes that Grindelwald and Dumbledore share in this third movie it really does seem like Grindelwald had feelings for Dumbledore. But just like op said in this comment his love is not pure or kind like Dumbledore's, Grindelwald's love is selfish and possessive and toxic because that's the kind of person he is, but he does love Albus in his own twisted way.
@alhamiddun_ But that's the thing I didn't really see a difference between the way Johnny's Grindelwald acted towards Credence or Queenie or his followers and the way he'd act with Dumbledore. Grindelwald is seductive and charming and that's how he brings people to his side and exerts control over them. But things with Dumbledore are supposed to be different, first because they go way back, their relationship in the youth was so deep and so intense that these two made a freaking blood pact, and also because Albus is the one person in the world that Grindelwald sees as his equal. Albus is as brilliant and as powerful as Gellert is and he knows that, so he's the one person Grindelwald can see as more than just a pawn in his game. The way Mads played Grindelwald in SoD you can clearly see the difference in how Grindelwald acts with Dumbledore and how he acts with everyone else, and it's also clear as day that he loves Dumbledore (in his own twisted way but he does). And I think this adds a lot depth and complexity to the character.
I love Johnny as an actor and he did give us a chilling villain, his Grindelwald is charismatic and charming and manipulative, the kind of person you can really see build up a following (id say even more than Voldemort), and at the same time so evil and cruel. Really an excellent villain. But in my opinion, with this added layer of his complex feelings and complicated relationship with Dumbledore, Mads takes it to the next level, elevating an already great character.
The heartbeat scene utterly destroyed me. Jude‘s and Mads‘ acting is marvellous their facial expressions convey so much love and pain, it’s heartbreakingly beautiful. Beautiful edit!!

Their story is so heartbreaking and, at the same time, utterly beautiful. I'm obssessed with this pairing. In the duel scene, the part where they put their hands on each others hearts, broke me, I started crying because that scene says more than any words ever could. And when Grindelwald says: " who will love you now, Dumbledore?"... Well, that just destroyed me completly, because, to my knowledge, Dumbledore never loved anyone else the way he loved Grindelwald and as such never let anyone else love him that way either. It's so sad and it just makes me love them more and want learn more about them.
I cry every time I see a scene in a restaurant or a scene of their duel. Their love became tragic when they both began to think about finding the Deathly Hallows and then when Ariana died ...
Unfortunately, the story of Dumbledore and Grindelwald has a sad ending ...

It really is! I just watched the movie and with the line Gellert had said, "Who will love you now?" and with the ending of Albus just walking away bitterly after witnessing the wedding. The way he just disappears so lonely into the cold winter night is just beautiful but also sad at the same time. Because we now that even then to the end, he was always going to be alone :( Jude Law did such an amazing performance in this one. Props to him, really..
@@Zeneria We can laugh and cry, we can even sympathize with him, but Albus will unfortunately be left alone ... But we know that in the end Gellert did not betray him because he did not tell Voldemort where the Black Wand was.

@@anita.1854 That is true. Though we have only seen Albus's feelings for Gellert. We may never know what Gellert feels for him, is it really love, or perhaps it was obsession? I might have missed it but like you said, in the end, Gellert never told where the elder wand had laid. For that, I feel that it was probably a tiny bit of lingering feeling that he has for Albus.
I really wondered that too, how Gellert had felt after knowing of Albus's death in the end.
Mikkelsen felt more human. It was a heartfelt performance. Depp's approach leaned more on the cause & beliefs of the character, and not so much on his flaws.

yep sorry Johnny but Mads absolutely smashed it, he perfectly conveyed that Hitleresque agitation, the deceitful charm, a lick of humanity behind the monstrous facade and the palpable chemistry between him and Dumbledore
I don't know if anyone has pointed it out already, but "the kingdom of Buhtan: if you listen carefully enough, the past whispers to you", I was wondering how that would come into play... And then we had Albus and Gellert stop their fight and listen to each other's heartbeat. The past whispering to them. I'm dead.

Gellert's lip tremble as all the memories and emotions hits him at once, and Albus looking shocked and afraid of what he might do himself.. for a split second Albus contemplated following his heart and not his brain, so that's why when Gellert takes a step towards him, Albus has to turn right away before he can't stop himself.

That ending sceans of Secrets of Dumbledore when Albus sitting at a roadsie bench during one cold winter night and was intently looking at Jacob's bakery when he was marrying Quennie, the way he was looking at the entire incident (marriage) just made me tear up. (Those eyes looked as if he wanted the same for himself)
Oh yes! He certainly envisioned his life with Grindelwald. The life he always wanted. This is really sad because Dumbledore has lost so much...
I know it wouldn't make any sense, but I wanted Grindewald to show up there just for a second. Just so they could have talked for a second...

Jude and Mads carried the entire movie! The movie was bland but did have its charms BUT it was the relationship of Grindeldore that made it so appealing and wonderful. Who can resist a sweet but tragic lovestory nowadays? I love them both. Jude and Mads have amazing chemisty! Hope this is fuel enough for the studio (and creators) to go make that next movie. We need more Grindeldore. We need more Jude and Mads!

I'm sorry, guys. I cannot see Johnny Depp pulling this off like Mads. No way. That scene would've looked bizarre. Anyways, am I the only one who understands that the movie basically opens with them on a...date? I mean, they're in a nice restaurant, nice cozy booth, candles and romance in the air, talking about their feelings for each other and their future together. And ends with one of them stomping angrily out, only to crawl back later. XD

Jude may not be my favorite actor, but he acted the hell out of the Dumbledore role in Secrets of Dumbledore. The way you can audibly hear his voice quaver as if he'll break down in tears any time he mentions Gellert or sees him is heartbreaking beyond measure. The love these men shared couldn't be more beautiful, tragic, and painful at the same time.
Jude Law played brilliant and phenomenal! I'm impressed because he was able to show all the pain in Albus's eyes with just his own eyes. And that's art!
He was also great in Sherlock Holmes with RDJ and in Captain Marvel!

The scene in the restaurant makes me cry. When they met, they both smiled and it was very sincere. Even Albus' reaction when he waited for Gellert broke my heart 💔 Their looks, gestures and words ... something amazing!

That moment after they come to a standstill staring into each other eyes and Gellert steps toward Albus, he immediately steps back and you can actually feel that he knew he could never walk away from Gellert if he let him. Just breaks my heart! 😭😭❤️❤️
Gellert probably didn't want Albus to leave, so he was surprised when after the words "who will love you now, Dumbledore?" Albus turned away from him anyway. Gellert's reaction when Albus replied, "You are alone" broke my heart, because I saw the pain in Gellert's face.

You are right! Dumbledore has suffered all his life. He may also feel that he does not deserve love. He lost the parents he loved, Ariana, his brother (because his relationship with Aberforth was complicated), and even Gellert. He lost everyone he loved ...
He said that love is what kept Harry from being killed by voldy & he protected & loved Harry & watched him grow up. It was almost as if Harry was his chance at redemption.

It broke my heart to feel Albus's heartache. He still loves Gellert and I think deep down Gellert still loves him but it can never be. So damn sad that I felt my throat welling up when they touch each other after fighting and then at the end Dumbledore walks off into the night. Tragic heartache that I actually felt pain myself for Albus

actually if any devoted potterhead READ THE BOOKS, we know there are some implications. Dumbledore was definitely in some kind of tragic love story which keeps him single but knows the power of love (as he enjoys lecturing Harry the power of love and understands Snape's deep affection for Lily). When he particularly emphasised the modern dark lord Voldy had no idea what's love, which was his weakness, it kinda implies that the previous dark lord, Grindleward, knew what's love. And why Dumbledore knows that is self-explanatory(?). Another question is that Dumbledore was at equal with Grindleward, so how could Dumbledore defeat him? Why is it 'defeat' but not 'kill' or 'lock in Azkaban'?
Of cuz it was not certain whether Dumbledore is gay or not in the books but he was certainly in love when he was younger and he shared a very close relationship with G that once weighted over his family and the world. Perhaps J.K. did not explicitly write D IS GAY in children's book that were published decades ago (we are not that liberal at that time), or just simply it was awkward to write about that like the old headmaster told his students or colleagues about his old love story like a bedtime story??! I am sure that J.K. did think about the background of each character carefully when she was writing the books. Even J.K. may have said many things controversial, please do not place your hate on the character and the books. I certainly do not think this is about political correctness. the fact is perfectly aligned with the published books. And there is NOTHING WRONG ABOUT BEING GAY. (we love the wizarding world which emphasis equality between people that are born wizards and muggles, so as sexual orientation) I believe anyone who truly love the wizarding world would at least understand this.

I think a lot of people who are critical of JKR for announcing Dumbledore as gay after the books were published don't realise just how far we've come since then. It was a huge deal at the time and really controversial. Casual homophobia was far more accepted back then. As a young gay person I'd already picked up on the subtext between D and G so having it confirmed by the creator meant a lot to me. I've also seen many people claim that JK must hate the gay relationship in this movie (which she cowrote!) , and frequent references to her being a homophobe which obviously isn't true. She has said many questionable, potentially damaging things about trans people but this isn't a black and white situation. Someone can be transphobic but not homophobic, homophobic but not racist, misogynist but not transphobic etc. The world is more complicated than all good and all bad.

Section 28 was still in action when the 1st Harry Potter was written so as an author she could not even say that Dumbledore was gay in a children's book. No author could in children's and young adult fiction at the time. Section 28, a law passed in 1988 by a Conservative government stopped councils, public services, libraries and schools from "promoting the teaching of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship." Section 28 was no longer law in the United Kingdom in 2003. Gellert ends up being imprisoned in Nurmengard castle which is his own castle. Dumbledore puts him there as it is where he planned to commit most of his crimes.
I don't want to be misunderstood, but I'm so glad that by coincidence this role went to Mads, what an amazing chemistry, I literally feel it, and I'm afraid to imagine how amazing it would be if he got this role from the very beginning, can't wait to see their interaction in the next parts

When grindelwald smiles it's in this smug, self-satisfied way when his world domination schemes are going to plan lol EXCEPT when he sees albus at the date, then his smile is so real and fond and there's no pretense there. He's just genuinely delighted to see his (ex)lover
Gellert is afraid to show emotions, but with Albus he tries to be himself. Note that Gellert smiled at Albus as he kept his eyes closed ... But you can still see Gellert hesitating between kissing him and fighting him.
Mads' Grindelwald is the BEST Grindelwald hands down. I'm so in love with Grindeldore its so damn tragic 😭

I was {I am still} so into Grindeldore. To see this coming true but going to an end at the same time, breaks me. I used to watch fanvids and read fanfictions. In the cinema, when the heart beat scene came, I did not know if I should cry, smile or have a fangirl attack. What I want to say is that I am so sad to know there will not be a honorable end for their story { I just say story cz love story would not be enough for what they felt.} Maybe J.K Rowling and Warner Bros.will find a way to give us shippers a good ending. What a beautiful tribute. This movie made me tear up so many times. Grindeldore truly is the heart and soul of SoD, from beginning to end. It's so tragic and romantic and finally shown explicitly. Grindelwald reciprocated the feelings, he loved Albus so much...Albus is his vulnerability after all. Thank you for this! ❤

In theory, Grindelwald did not openly say to Dumbledore that he loves him, but his eyes, face, smiles and gestures made him not even have to confess his love for him. They still love each other because they decided to stop the duel when they heard their own hearts beating 💔
@@anita.1854 I actually interpreted the line "Who will love you now" that way, because it implies that Gellert loves him, but Albus chooses to turn his back on him and therefore will be alone, because no one understands him intellectually and loves him the way Gellert does. 🥺 Which makes the whole ordeal between them, basically their "public divorce", even more tragic... Yes, though, you're right, the fact that he reciprocates these feelings, that the love is in fact mutual, is written all over their faces.
@@kaitoffelkopf I think Grindelwald, in a way, interpreted Dumbledore's turning his back as a betrayal. Until the very end, he believed that Albus would join him someday and help him. However, Dumbledore decided to let him go. After all, when at the very end Grindelwald was surrounded and locked himself in a magic bubble, Albus nodded his head as a sign that he was letting Gellert go.

What happened during the close encounter duel? Did they enter another dimension to avoid carnage? I hope JK Rowling explains it in the future.
@@har5814 Yes, David Yates explained recently that they enter an excluded dimension where basically no one else can see them, thus their surroundings turning blurry and white. Apparently it's a mean to avoid breaking canon. I'd say the entering of this dimension is caused by the blood pact.
Wonderful song selection makes the whole love of two men more beautifully tragic. You can feel the yearning for love openly from Dumbledore and repressed in Grindelwald but it's there. The slight smile on seeing Dumbledore and the expression when he realises that Dumbledore has hand above his heart. It's like these two want to hurt with their wands while shielding each others heart from the hurt.

The acting and the chemistry between Jude and Mads was magic!
From the beginning where Dumbledore said “I was in love with you” talked about their love, how Grindelwald talked about their dream and how they wanted to reshape the world together, all up to their final confrontation at the end of the film where they held each other’s hearts with their hands upon one another’s chests and how Grindelwald said - *”Who will LOVE you now, Dumbledore?!”*
Just the way he said it and what it means, speaks so much volume and broke my heart as I’m sure it did both of theirs to think that they will now battle each other, their blood pact that they made to never fight each other broke because Dumbledore chose his family and his love for them over his love with the one man who he felt was his true love and to think that Grindelwald saying what he said in his own way means that though their bond is broken, he hasn’t stopped loving him and he won’t love anyone again like he loves Dumbledore, but then there’s the heartbreak in Grindelwald that he hopes Dumbledore also won’t love anyone like he loved him; like he still loves him.

Although Grindelwald showed so much more heartbreak saying what he said at the end to Dumbledore, and while Dumbledore only said, “I was in love with you” in the beginning of the film as though he no longer is, the moment where he walked away from the love of his life at the end wasn’t because his love for him is gone, it’s because Dumbledore tried to be brave and not have to face his heart’s true feelings that despite all he’s done and how he tried to kill his nephew and he chose his family love over his true love, he still loves him.
As I said, they will always love each other and only each other in spite of everything - that is the true heartbreak and tragedy of their love story.

After watching the movie twice, I have notice some minor but interesting details:
In the restaurant, Dumbledore said to the waitress that he's "waiting for someone special". The waitress then smiled knowingly - she knew that "someone special" means his lover and maybe so do Dumbledore.
Another one is when the jiglin(?) choose Dumbledore, Grindelwald has mouthing the word "oh... Albus". I feel like he's being both angry (cause he's failed) and speechless (not shock, as if he already knew Albus would be the true leader) That to me show that Grindelwald do appreciate and respect Dumbledore.
P/s: update cuz i have watched the third time :D Grindelwald mouthing "oh Albus" AFTER Albus reject the quilin's choosing him as rightfull leader. So Grindelwald was definitely disappointed about Albus decision. And he might be more willing to have Albus as his rival rather than Santos 😀
Gosh, I didn't hear Gellert's words when the quilin chose Albus. It makes sense now, because it was only from Grindelwald's behavior that I deduced that he respected Albus after all. And now I know he was deeply proud of him.
The café scene still breaks my heart. Their smiles, gestures and words ... I love them!

why do you think gellert and albus stop fighting? Just saw the film and I didn't get it...also why the crowd did not seem to see them duelling
I think they stopped fighting because they were shocked that the Blood Pact was destroyed. Or because they didn't really want to fight each other because they still love each other. They felt their own hearts pounding and realized that they were unable to deliver the final blow. It was love that made them unable to fight each other. Even Gellert, who in theory only wanted power and authority. But remember the scene in the cafe where Gellert did not take the Blood Pact from Albus and talked to him calmly, even smiling at him.
Dumbledore is loved by his friends and his students. They all lit their wands for him the night be died. "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. If one remembers to turn on the light."
Even i can find grindelwald adorable when dumbledore said "we can free each other"(about the blood pack) with dearing eyes, but grindelwald doesnt answer and stay silent and change the topic talking about how 'muggles like to chat a lot' In other word grindelwald hates that thought, never thought abt it, or he didnt want that happen, and want keep that relation with dumbledore. Adorable
Grindelwald still loves Dumbledore. And their love was beautiful and devastating...

This is absolutely beautiful. To be honest, I like Mads performance over Jonny. I respect Johny he roled GW charactor was so good but I love the way Mads look at Jude's his eyes tell us everything. Love, pain, it looks like he wants to hold Jude's hand and kisses. It explains me everything how much he wants jude's by his side. Not about power or equal wizardly but love.
That's so romantic, unbelieveable and cleary tell us how much they love each other. Mads play so well about "Gay thing.. deep love charactor as you can see in Hannibal"

But to the point ... I love the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald because it is non-obvious, beautiful and surprising. I can believe that in their youth they both fell in love (I believe Gellert still loves Albus). The cafe scene broke my heart, because they were just talking like two men in love who had a painful past. Even Gellert couldn't suppress his emotions, it was evident in his eyes that he hesitated between kissing Albus or fighting him. Especially when Albus was waiting for him with his eyes closed and he just stood there smiling 💔
Mads and Jude played phenomenally, I'm impressed. It's a pity Mads didn't play from the very beginning. And it's a pity we had to understand that Mads was made for the role of Grindelwald, when they fired Johnny Depp ...
This is one of the best Dumbledore/ Grindelwald videos I have seen!! Thank you so much for making it - really really beautiful and well done! I watched the movie and just loved it and their scenes together. The chemistry between Jude and Mads is just incredible and I actually don't think those scenes would have worked as well or would have had the same impact with Jonny Depp. Mads elegant and charismatic portrayal of Grindelwald just makes him somebody you really believe that Dumbledore had such an attraction to, even 20 years after they last saw each other. But as a huge Mads Mikkelsen and Hannibal fan I might be slightly biased ;-) Am I the only one hoping we might get the kiss here that they withheld from us in Hannibal... :-D

I love this movie and I love the story of Grindelwald and Dumbledore. Mads and Jude played brilliant, and I could watch their scenes together all the time. The scene in the cafe destroyed me and broke my heart. It was beautiful! And the moment of their duel made me cry with emotion.
I noticed that in this part Albus, in the company of other people, spoke about of Grindelwald "Gellert" and not "Grindelwald". Interesting detail.

I hope when they both died they were in a better place and could be happy. After the duel in 1945, Dumbledore did not kill Grindelwald, but imprisoned him in a place that Gellert knew very well. So they both couldn't destroy each other. That's heartbreaking 💔

If one can believe the existence of a feeling greater than love... they have it. A connection so deep that no matter the pains and disappointment... decades of negative emotions they still feel the same for each other. Its inescapable and possibly toxic but so damn pure.
I dont know if its the magic or if its because the characters and the actors arent young, naive and or jaded young adults. The way they portray albus and gellert is what i had been hoping for. And gotta admit. The fight sequence is what we hoped wizarding fights would look like😆

Honestly if johnny depp were to have played grindelwald I think it would’ve looked awkward. Like johnny doesn’t look like his an english wizard, he looks like an edgy cosplayer of a fantasy anime. And having him interact with jude law in those scenes would’ve looked funny and weird.

They don't want to hurt themselves. They even showed it now that they felt their own hearts pounding. Dumbledore turned and walked away, leaving Gellert behind. And Gellert couldn't believe it. As they held hands on their chests, Albus looked away, while Gellert was staring at him all the time and you could see the pain in his eyes.
"who will love you now" is such manipulation 101. Everyone who's been in abusive relationships can tell. When your partner takes advantage of your insecurities (in this case Dumbledore feeling all alone) and ruins your other close relationships (the ones with his siblings) so you get all dependent on them.
I really liked the latest installment in the Fantastic beasts series.

Whia we need to worry about more is people refusing to go and see #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore all because of her comments; I’d highly encourage and recommend everyone [please Encourage as many other people as you can as well please :-) See it as many times as they can in theaters, and even If possible,buy a ticket for it In place of going to see another movie so that way it still gets money without you actually having to see it multiple times. Buying as many merchandise directly related to it as possible will also truly help.
Also remember that if you’re refusing to see it because of #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald Then please remember that this movie needs to do well so as to give Johnny the chance to actually come back in the Later movies, For the actor who played MacNair The executioner was re-casted for prisoner of Azkaban and then came back for order of the Phoenix. The bottom line is that if #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Doesn’t do well, And they don’t make the remaining two movies,then Johnny definitely will never be back as Grindelwald!Plus you also have to remember that it’s about to be a new company with new people over seeing it, So as such you were technically not paying that company and are actually giving more of a chance than not having him actually return. Especially depending on what may happen with the results of his trial that’s going to be happening shortly after the movie comes out, the new people taking over Warner Bros. right before it comes out……
Also remember in regards to her that she doesn’t necessarily get a whole lot of money from this, as well the fact remains that as many people have pointed out that she already has so much money that not supporting the series will not really change any kind of “power“ that you may have against her, and after all the series should not suffer at all because of her for Regardless of what you may think, nothing I repeat nothing will ever ever truly take away what a series overall truly means to you let alone other people, And again it’s not The series that’s the problem at all in any kind of way :-)

I have watched the film several times but still can’t catch the response. Was it “You are alone”, “Im all alone”, or “You’re not alone” ?
I see comments below saying that it’s “You are alone”. But I am confused with this as this doesn’t sound right. Presume Albus was directly responding to Grindelwald’s question. If what Albus wanted to tell Grindelwald was Grindelwald was the only one who deserved loving him, then he should have said “You are the only one” but not “You are alone”.
“Im all alone” seems targeting Grindelwald’s question better. Although after the battle their blood pact broke, Albus still loved Grindelwald. He knew there wouldn’t be anyone he would fall in love with again and would love him like Grindelwald.

“You’re not alone.” This also makes sense as Albus was telling Grindelwald he had friends like Newt and Jacob who loved and stood with him. Grindelwald was not the only one who loved Albus.
