I'm not a religious person, the only time I'm in a church is for a wedding or sadly, a funeral.
Abide With Me is my family hymn, and has been sung at every funeral I've ever attended. So whilst I may not find the same comfort in its words, it carries a deep, emotional significance to me.
Thank you for this hauntingly beautiful rendition and for making something so uplifting out of something otherwise so sad.
I love the artistic choice to keep the unraised 4 in the melody until the last verse for ‘point me to the skies’. Great word painting!

John Sikes No, our family’s surname was adapted by my father from a name has grandfather went by in the old country.
@@ByzantineCalvinist So much of that went on that it must make doing genealogy a pain. In our case, the name was actually Sykes, from England, but much of the family changed it to Sikes, fairly easy to follow. Smyth and Smith are similar, both pronounced short i.
I assume that's a music theory term, and I think I know what it is, but could you explain?

I watched that animatic video someone made of a male version of "Show Yourself" from Frozen 2, and while I loved the concept, I was a bit disappointed to find out it was "just" the original song with pitched-down vocals. I'd love to hear your take on it :)

Sam - Each video that you release, I think there is no way you could possibly top. I'm a 58 year-old man that started playing instruments and singing when I was in around 4th grade, (so call it 50 years). So please believe me when I say that you just topped your last video, and the one before that, and the one before that...etc; all the way back to the beginning!

One of the few musicians out there that can take hymns I've learned to hate (after singing some of them about three MILLION times, it seems) and make them fresh and beautiful. Bass slide at about 2:35, excellent! The subtlety of it just MAKES it, for me. Not even remotely "in your face", but just audible enough to make for chill bumps. Nailed it. ;-)
