Monarch Butterfly Emerging From Chrysalis

This is a time lapse video of a Monarch butterfly pupa emerging from its chrysalis. It was taken at two frames per second. We raised a Monarch caterpillar taken from our garden in a container with milkweed plant leaves. The butterfly will be fed some fruit and then released after a day or so. It appears to be a female.

I found a pair of caterpillars and had a couple of monarchs metamorphose when I was a kid. I was the coolest thing to watch! Thanks for bringing back the memory.
