I’m using a MPP2 8,6 with 150g and it’s one of my favourite rods, along with the SG XLNT2 8,6 30-80g. Used them for years without any issues, mostly with my Abu Revo Beast. For heavy pike or cod, I’ll go with the MPP2, but most of the time, The XLNT2 with the Revo Beast is my go to combo. Plus, the colour and texture of the reel and the rod match perfectly 😊
Great review of 1 of the best rods savage gear have ever made in my opinion there just so versatile i have the trigger version and the spinning version both 8ft 6'' ,150 GRAM top quality for the money you won't find better for the price i agree 100% with your review thank you for posting
Totally agree about the orange on the blank, it would put me off buying it. A bit of subtle orange would be nice as that is their colour. Perhaps a few turns of orange at the end of the whippings and an orange anodised handle cap/spacer. Maybe orange in the butt cap or is the teeth logo in there?
i just got the savage gear mpp2 90 gram version 8ft 3 i think i love it paired it with a shimano slx dc probably not the best reel to pair with it but ......... lol was gonna pair it with a lighter rod but ended up getting this at my local tackle shop
Sounds ok mate. Depends what your fishing for. Good gear Shimano. SLX DC a fantastic reel. Thinking of getting one myself soon for Perch,Wrasse and Bass fishing but i bet it will handle a Pike.
Could you tell me what you think about the 7'3" version with a casting weight of 130 grams? What reel would you recommend for frog fishing, crankbait, shad, swimbait, spinnerbait and jerk? Is the revo beast x ok?
Won't let you down. Depends what you want to spend. Kastking good but might be tricky to get at minute so Abu or Shimano might be better. Tranx the best but mega bucks. If you like your Black Max maybe one of those.
i want to buy the 259cm >70g model spinning rod but i don't know if it will cast small weight lures like 5g or 7g, biggest baits i throw are 40-50g swimbaits. But will i throw small lures comfindentaly?
>150gr. I’ve used it to cast anything from Jigflies and frogs to large Jerkbaits in excess off that weight. If you are regularly throwing 200gr lures they do a heavier model. I’d say it’s a good all round Pike Rod. Mind you they are just about to bring out the SG2 and SG4 series which look even better
Quite good. I would be compare it to a mates Gator Gum rod. I use it mainly for fishing a Reservoir from the shore with lures up to the size of a savage gear hard bodied eel and down to smaller pike soft shads. Very adaptable. Have used it for Jig Flies and copes but not perfect
Thanks bud, considering getting it just to replace my spinning rod with a casting rod, any issues with the guides on it? My old okuma rod kind of looks like it and the guides on that just cracked and snapped my braid off with my good lures 👎
I can only comment on the 80gr I have but it is softer in the tip. I would presume the 110gr would also be softer than your higher end rods. Being 8ft 6 it should be softer than the shorter rods but I can’t guarantee it as I haven’t waggled one. It should be ok as it is not a >150gr rod. What do you have now

Mines going strong. Such good gear and value for money. Cod? You using it off a boat?

Got to love a bargain. Great blanks.
great review, lovely place you are fishing. some beautiful pike well done mate.

@@TheConstantAngler im fishing for pike im dumb missed that
@@TheConstantAngler update sending back the slx dc looking for a bigger reel havent used it yet best thing i can do
Just seen the Lews 300 super duty can pick it up for £100 - 150 quid depending if get from.states or here. Looks good for Pike.

The 7ft 3 will be a great allround rod. The revo beast is an excellent real. One of the best
Ordered one last night m8 dunno what reel yet thou, but watched yours on here about the reels

Are you using braided line
Yep 65lb Kastking mate
Nice video adrian 👌
Is it enough strong rod for catfish?
I would imagine for UK catfish but probably not designed for it on the continent
Is that fishing line or steel rope spooled on?
It 60lb Kastking Super Power Braid. It does look a bit like wire though, i will grant you that,
Dose the work with a standard reel and the other way up ?
Afraid not but you can buy a spinning version i.e the other way up
I have the spinning mpp2 8ft 6'' absolutely awesome had pike to 26LB handling is fantastic, para
Can’t fault mine. For the money hard to beat.
Nice review
Cheers bud.
would you recommend it for pike fishing ?
denny definitely. It’s my main rod

Would say it’s pushing it. So not really if I’m honest
@@TheConstantAngler so in you'r opinion, what are the smallest lures i can throw with that rod?
@@kolibris42 Probably 15gr. 10 at a push but you will struggle to compress the rod the lower you go
What's the casing weight?

@@paulnolan4324 I haven’t but I don’t use it week in week out. Have lots of other SG rods and they have been fine
Is this similar to the sg2?

@@TheConstantAngler Obei from China. Ultra fast tip more for jerk baits I recon.
What reel did you use?
I used a Kastking Kapstan but also use a Kastking Spartacus Maximus. Would love a Tranx or Okuma Komodo or Abu Revo beast though.
@@TheConstantAngler I am thinking about tranx 401
Fantastic reels. If you can afford one you won't find better.
What is the minimum casting weigth on the 150 gram rod?
And could you cast 40 gram lures on it or would that be to ligth?
No probs. It will do it.
If you watch my latest video "Pike Canal fishing with Darren", i'm casting 5gr Jigflies on it no problem. 40gr it will handle easily.
Doesn't state a minimum casting weight. Ideally for normal sized Pike lures 40gr up to 150gr can do bigger at a push.
Thanks for the answer
and yet you wear gloves with parts of those being orange...))
True. You got me there. :)
