This is a brilliant tutorial. I'm only a grade 4 student and this is a grade 6 piece in the UK but I love it so much that I'm determined to learn 2 bars at every day for a week until it's complete as I love it so much as I think your tutorial will enable me to have a good shot at it. Brilliant lesson! thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Watching this now. I'm learning a lot from you. (apparently, I still have many to learn 😅). And 3/4 and 6/8 are my fav time measure. Thank you for this
If you're learning this piece, you might want to try this link ruclips.net/video/B6Gtj4-xUXw/видео.html or this link ruclips.net/video/rCPYspESPoo/видео.html if you want some help with the fast notes (Chopin had a very nuanced approach to grace notes and trills. Isn't that right Jordan?) then this link will be very helpful ruclips.net/video/uT0cntUfGQM/видео.html

Thanks for stopping by! The middle section reallly isn’t too challenging to play but explaining it to someone for the first time can be difficult! And yes it’s the Audio technica AT2020 it’s fairly common for these sort of things isn’t it haha
@@JordanEvansMusic I agree the 'middle section' is not that difficult (just some arpeggios and weird timing). Bar 33 is the most challenging part, as is evident at 29:04.
Great Tutorial!! I was looking forward to hearing you play the piece in it's entirety at the end. I would love it if you could do a seperate video performing this beautiful song.

The occasional overextension of finger three on your left hand while playing A minor chord is an interesting approach. I wonder what Chopin would make of that.
Thanks Jordan. Well done. At 24:30 I like mordent more than grace notes. Most of them, however, play grace notes 😁 Unfortunately, I can't play this piece flawlessly: /

Could you go into a little more detail with regard to the ornaments. Should the 'trills' be played on the beat or off the beat? Also at 30:03 I noticed when you start the trill you play e-f-e-d#, Is that the way Chopin would have intended you play it? In this performance by Kolensikov ruclips.net/video/qHeJlSWSnUI/видео.html he plays f-e-f-e-d#. I've noticed this a fairly typical (but not always) approach to Chopin's trill. Are Kolensikov and the others wrong?
Hey Sean, I appreciate your interest in my video as well as you’re creative feedback! I am always looking for opportunities to grow and become a better person as well as musician. Unfortunately I teach full time and in addition to other obligations I have had to step back from RUclips a little so I apologize for my delayed responses. In hindsight if I was to redo this video there are some things I would change and some things that I have since learned that I maybe would take a different approach with. Taking that into consideration I still the this video is pretty accurate and a helpful resource. I am very blessed to be able to work in music full time. I’m still very young and I will keep working hard and practicing to become the best teacher and musician I can be. But in the meantime I really do appreciate your criticisms and I learn a lot from that as well. I do plan on becoming more active on RUclips in the near future and may revisit this. Thanks again so much hope you have a great day! 👍🏽
I've been practicing this one for a few months now. Great tutorial / insights, would have been great if you added a section in which you play the whole piece, no breaks, "real pace". BTW, what are you using for displaying on your tablet.
I just started working on this piece a few days ago, really appreciate this tutorial! This is probably the most complex piece I've attempted to tackle so far. Measures 21 and beyond start to get pretty challenging. Wondering if you had a rough duration you would consider reasonable to learn this piece up to tempo, if you were to consider it within your current skill set? Just trying to gauge if I'm reaching too far with this one, in absence of having a teacher. Thanks!
Hey man thanks for checking it out! As an adult learner almost anything is possible and this piece is definitely manageable. Don’t feel like you have to learn it quick a piece like this could take 6-8 months to learn and that’s no problem. Just make a goal to spend half an hour a day worning on it and you’ll learn it in no time. Just take it really slow and work the hard parts slowly and with perfection and your muscle memory will take over
Wanted to thank you for this video, after about 3wks of practice I'm feeling pretty good with my progress! Still need to iron out measures 21 and 33-39 but happy with it overall ! ruclips.net/video/uyIZD1SPsak/видео.html

What's your approach to pedalling? I find holding till beat 3 effective. but it always sounds a bit muddy during the turn at br 4. I'd love to hear your opinion on this Jordan. Perhaps a video just on pedalling? If hat's not to much to ask.
So, you call 2 octave jumps a beginner piece and 3-5 trills? It’s solid intermediate; especially if you play music and not just notes. The LH/RH balance technique … the timing on part 2. This requires VERY little looking at the keyboard. It is one of the easier Chopin pieces, but beginner or advanced beginner. Hmmmmm. You must be one hellova teacher. At What university do you instruct?
Hey Ken, thank you for your feedback I love hearing from others and your comment is appreciated by me. I made this video a while back and have learned a lot since then and probably would change a lot of ways I taught this video in hindsight. But my goal in making RUclips videos is to help others and I think this video is helpful. I work full time in music and spend a lot of time teaching, I have 46 private students for drums and piano at the moment. So no university teaching for me but maybe in the future 😃
I just realized this is your second time visiting my video and taking the time to comment so thank you! I take it as a great compliment you would take the time to give me feedback on several occasions!
Hello, thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! I think I was in a phase a video editing a couple years ago where I edited out every pause in my speech because I heard that was the best way to make videos. Always learning and adjusting. Thanks again for watching!
How do you expect us to listen to your teaching a Chopin piece when you can’t even spell. Example WALTS. DUH. AND… A Beginner piece? Im sure a beginner can learn to jump multi octaves and then the measure in Part B. First beat covering 2 notes, then 5 notes, then 3 notes. I hear pros that don’t play this well. Tell me, how many beginners have you taught. What music schools have you studied in and taught in. Or maybe, what do you consider a ‘beginner’?
Hello thank you for your feedback I appreciate what you have to say!! The thumbnail is regrettable I don’t know how that happened :( maybe I’ll change it one day if I have a moment. I’ve been teaching full time for about 6 years. I teach drums, piano, and violin and I have 46 private students at the moment! I have a BA in commercial music and my background is definitely more contemporary/jazz but I’ve found myself doing more classical/education for my career. I’ve had students learn this piece after playing for 2 years and I would consider them a LATE beginner or early intermediate. The chord progressions are really predictable and the scales are also very intuitive for students who have learned scales. But I agree it’s not a perfect lesson and looking at it 3 years later I’ve learned so much that I would change now in the way I teach it, but I think there is enough positive stuff in this video that I will keep it up for now. Thanks again!
Is this piece a little beyond your abilities Jordan? That's ok, Classical piano isn't for everyone. It's important to be honest with yourself about these things.
