- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at Rockstar Games finally patching up GTA Online. For over a year at this point me and plenty of players have been complaining about the security of the PC version of the game and with some recent events, Rockstar has responded and issued a fix. This should be very telling to everyone though. All it took was a couple weeks of hits in their profit margins for everything to change. We need to start doing that more often and not just with Rockstar. Protest is the power of the people!!!

@@swankshire6939 yess because what you speak of is inherently impossible, there's always gonna be the ganado like consumers who can't think for themselves enough to avoid buying/supporting a shitty project, even if the majority denounce these products there's almost always enough to make it successful, the gaming industry has been trusted to not turn to trash, it's innovative devs who do amazing work that keeps the medium alive, devs who go above and beyond despite how much they may be appreciated for what they do, masterpieces of games are made this way, not through players boycotting. That hardly ever happens and if it does it's to revert a change or changes made in a game that people dislike, or when a game is so hyped as something like the early halo's at launch, anyway point is we were never voting with out wallets cause we're incapable of it, no instead we are enjoying the occasional masterpiece shat out by underappreciated devs

When I saw them tweet that they patched the PC version of GTA Online, I had to have a doubletake to make sure I wasn't imagining this....A DECADE LATER.
I remember when EA released a goodwill patch for C&C Generals: Zero Hour quite some time after it left support, because of an utterly notorious multiplayer glitch that was ruining the game. And it did solve the problem, so good job EA.
it probably wont last long, knowing Rockstar, it was probably half assed and within weeks assholes will find a way around it to ruin everything for you all again. Prepare to then wait another 10 years.

It took the potential of a lawsuit, and a ton of people abandoning the game and warning others away from it, for Rockstar to do anything.
Give credit where it's due, but do not forget these transgressions. Do not give Rockstar any slack or praise. The only way to keep a company in line is to force them into it.

I actually know a modder that's making his own menu. He's chill and doesn't bother anyone other than other modders. He actually was actually surprised how much extra work he had to do to get around this patch, since Rockstar doesn't do much lol

The reason as to why there is hardly any modders on GTA is because the game just updated. All GTA menus have to get updated for the latest game patch (as with every update). Give it a few days before 90% of people in your lobby are using cheats.

Good job, rockstar. Took you long enough. Now consistency is key because the authors of the mod menus are gonna find a work around so you guys need to be constantly patching. I doubt they'll do it but that's the price for online games.

i remember when the garage money glitch came out it was patched instantly and everyone who did it got banned (including me) but this extremely dangerous hack took forever to get patched

One time some guy in GTA was chasing me in a plane, I flipped my plane around and made him eject, and then he sat on the ground for 30 seconds or so and I suddenly crashed out with an error that said something like 'modified files found'. He literally started a fight with me, got mad when I fought back, and opened his script menu and kicked me. This was literally 2 years ago now and they just fixed it.

What did they fix? If you dont have a mod menu yourself, they're still able to crash you.
Suspending GTA Online in the Network tab in Resource Monitor for a few seconds then resuming it would put you in a normal public lobby by yourself, however people would still connect over time, however it would usually only be like 3 other people max, so it was really useful for doing deliveries.

@@sheevpalps66 Since last summer update you can do every piece of content in private sessions, technically there hasn't been any real reason to play in public sessions since summer as you can trigger business battles and free mode events in private sessions as well if you have 3+ players in there and i am pretty sure you can also get the high demand bonus too. Closest thing to having a actual "custom servers" as with large crew you can fill the lobby with people you know.

I honestly can't believe that after roughly 10 years they are finally fixing this issue after everyone has been complaining about it constantly. I'm genuinely surprised this day would even come, I really hope everyone who still plays this game will finally be able to enjoy the online experience the way it was intended.
Also is worth mentioning that modders can't spoof their names, RID (Rockstar I'd) and IP anymore. And the biggest improvement for me was being able to join private sessions without invite through mod menus, basically stalk you nonstop, i had that issue for months and my only way to play peacefully was with Guardian to block my ports.
Blind fire kick is still not patched, so people can still kick you out of your private lobby without even joining you.

person involved with modding here, IPs still aren’t hidden, this is still available to some menus. RCE’s among the public menus for the most part have been removed, however some private menus and scripts still have the intention of adding RCE features. Stand dev team was given $800 patching a crash, there’s still other crashes and kicks that exist using different weaknesses(desync, script/net events), only reason this update seems safe for now is because Rockstar updated their globals and pointers(for anyone that doesn’t know these are basically identifiers for values, so modders can manipulate them to do things) basically it’s only a matter of time that new globals and pointers are found, unless rockstar actually did more than just simply change the globals and pointers, as in actual prevention of them being modified, then maybe we will see improvement of safety in terms of what modders are capable of. but all of that is a matter of time…
In other words; this was a half assed attempt at creating safety and all they did was patch the thing that caused players to not play the game, almost everything else is still there. The concept of changing vftable pointers is still there, many developers from private menus and scripts are expanding their knowledge on RCE, we will see soon enough whether that will bear fruit or not
We are not prepared for the script kiddies that find rce and violate you over a supply drop

This reminds me of Plutonium for Black Ops 2, since Activision didn't updated the security the official game is not even safe to play. But in Plutonium, which is a fan made launcher running servers, there is no way you could even find a hacker. Five is necessary
FiveM is necessary but I am still not playing either. FiveM got overran with GMOD moderator rejects that hate having fun and love rules.

I tried playing GTA Online on my PS5 2 months ago after almost a year and couldn't go online unless I used a VPN or different internet. It was so frustrating. Yesterday I tried it out and could go online without any issues. Funny thing is that I had this issue on PC a few years ago and couldn't get it fixed. My friend as well. A lot of people on the internet did as well and they offered solutions that almost never worked. Only a VPN or different internet worked.
Whatever they did seemed to resolve this issue. This has been going on for a very long time. I'm not gonna praise them for doing the bare minimum. And I'm probably not gonna play unless there is a content update. My friend and I used to play it religiously on PC but stopped because of all the issues then we moved to console and it still had many of the issues. Now we only ever play when there is new content. And we never play for more than a week. The issues just ruined it to the point where nothing can bring us back permanently
Be sure to keep up with the updates of these malware menus because as soon as *they're* patched, which will be much sooner Rockstar, it's the last two weeks all over again.

You can still mod with menus, just not being able to change other people's character stats anymore, god mode glitches are still available as fuck, and modders can still do all kinds of things to you from, freezing, locking camera angles, bounty loops, mugger loops, you can trigger business raids for other people as modder, you can blame kills on people. It's a mess
After two days with only seeing light modders, a 25+ person lobby was getting hit by Modders crashing games, setting people on fire, kicking you out of your vehicle, killing people with other people's name, selling in a public lobby is still hard with them in the lobby but at least they fixed the serious problems.
When I used a mod menu on GTA, I would actually GIVE people money lmao. I figured out the max amount I could give someone before they got their account flagged and the money taken and would just go lobby to lobby giving people that amount of money. I did this just because I hate rockstar. I would fly around in blimps going 200mph and other silly stuff that didn't harm anyone else.

lol I hack in gta 5 online, I have like 30 millions dollars, if they won't fix their security issues, I'll take it upon myself to absolutely ruin their sources of income, but I'm glad to see they FINALLY decided to fix their issues, maybe I can go back to playing normally.
One time this hacker completed all my stunt jumps. I’m still upset about that.
What I understand from the network architecture is that it's not really a client peer-to-peer, it is a server peer-to-peer. Every player is playing on a personal server that connect to other servers, server that gets registered into a "lobby", and should you lag out but connectivity comes back, your server registers itself again as a new lobby, you just don't get disconnected away and sent back to single player.
Then, as other servers connect to a "lobby finder", they can get matched to your lobby and that syncs up things like car spawns and player positions.
This is why the old private-public lobbies worked. Lagging out made your personal server think it's unpopulated, and it eventually registers itself as a 1-player lobby again. However, the lobby finder likes to throw people in populated lobbies first, because multiplayer means multiple players, which is why solo public lobbies tended to stay mostly unpopulated.
Overall, with this new "IP hiding" architecture, I think they did a good job of having most of the advantages of actual servers without needing the processing power. They just pass along the data instead of processing it.
This also means (and I'm engaging "wishful thinking" mode here) that they can finally monitor what players are doing to an extent and that will lead to modders doing impossible stuff to be banned more expediently.
It only took 10 years... Ugh.

So just to be clear, modding is a separate thing right. Hacking and remote code execution is another. I logged in once after the patch and saw an intersection full of bulldozers so modding is definitely still happening.

Loading times, security flaws, it only take 8 years to fix stuff but R* (begrudgingly) keep their promise.
@@SEEYAIAYE Remember that loading times weren't fixed by Rockstar, some random guy got tired of loading times and reverse engineered the game, found that most of the time was being spent recalculating the string length for the store items list json for no reason, and published a mod that fixes it. Rockstar then saw it and said to themselves "wait the fix is that simple?", implemented the fix and paid the guy some money
These exploits existed in 1971. And Rockstar Games didn't know it.

Hey Muta! I know this is probably a long shot, buuut here I go lol. There is a game very dear and near to my heart. Its called EchoVR. This game is unlike anything I've every tried. It has an daily player base of 10k+. Unfortunately, Meta has decided to shut down the servers with an very vague reason. Would you be willing to make a video to help the community grab Meta's attention to change their mind? We just don't want to see our favorite game just get deleted from the world. Would you please help us Mr Muta.

Might have better luck in reverse engineering the Networking stuff and running your own servers than Meta not canceling it, couple days ago saw a dude revive a dead game for years by reversing it and hosting his servers, and that game servers was dead with this the servers are still running it'll be easier

You won't see modders when a new patch comes out, the mod menus usually have tests to ensure safety of not getting banned and after tests they will release a new public version, in a couple weeks I think modders will return.

I think peer to peer would be good in the game preservation sense
in no way would p2p help the game. people can host their own servers when games run dedicated coding for their multiplayer components. a game can't die if people keep hosting servers. GTA:O suffers from p2p and there is no benefit to it for online gaming.

Pointing out 2 things is IP'S / Players GEO Location is still able to be found in game! & Crashing / Kicking can still be done with menus - Different method (Source? I made the cheat)
The taxi god mode glitch is possibly one of the biggest problems for GTA Online to date

Good job! Got Rockstar to re-add double-clutch driving mechanic back to the game after they silently removed it by corralling the forums and twitter and calling/emailing them daily for a couple weeks. When they added it back, the gave a shout-out to the "driving community" in the patch notes :)

"This is still Rockstar we're talking about, do not expect anything above the bare minimum" i remember a time, now so long ago, when "this is rockstar we're talking about" meant you could expect nothing but the best, at that time the only company between Ea and Ubisoft that had some integrity left, such a long time ago now
Well... We have seen them implement more and more changes in GTA 5. It is almost certainly a result of technology created for GTA 6 which is now trickling back into GTA 5. Because they don't want a repeat of the wild west P2P hacker mayhem in the next game. And when they've created fixes for GTA 6, it's trivial to backport them for GTA 5 too (same game engine). So we can be almost 100% sure that they're doing exactly that.
- In November or so, they got rid of most of the GTA 5 client-side anticheat. And improved their server-side anticheat (stat detections etc) instead. People have seen increased bans, and there are theories that it's related to things like heist-editing, casino rigging, etc, where you set your own payouts without doing any preps.
- Now in February they implemented some kind of proxy for important traffic, which is meant to protect against the account bricking exploit, and also against "altering GTA$ balance, RP level, Bad Sport status, and other player stats" (their words).
So yes. Absolutely. Of course it's riskier to cheat now when they've made a bunch of big changes and added several new server-side anticheat technologies in a short amount of time. Until we've observed the game for a few more months, nobody except Rockstar Employees can tell you what they're doing. Increased bans were seen recently by all the mod menus.
Kudos for bringing attention to this issue and explaining the technical details in layman's terms, Mutahar. My opinion of Rockstar has been restored from criminally negligent back to sleazy moneygrubbers.

You won’t see mods until they’re updated. This did little stop mods but will take a little for them to be updated and find work arounds.
Awesome news, thank you for the video! I still use Crew Lobbies to free roam w/full features and friends, however I still didn't run matchmaking modes because it could pull a hacker. For some reason, Crew Lobbies always put me solo into a full feature lobby with no players joining in ever. It may have to do with the number of Crews per lobby, and that a lot of people don't launch Crew Lobbies from Story Mode or from an existing online session, maybe both? Also 2, 3, and 4 crew lobbies exist separately. Figure I'd share that, as it kept me able to solo grind through the bad times and I STILL to this day have no idea why it works.

A hacker back in the day on the OG MW2 put some code on my account and reset all the work I put in. Made my level NEGATIVE ONE, so even TDM was locked. That was the last time I played before I played Cold War and the new MW2.
The thing about player-to-player messaging is probably about spam texts in public servers, some bots with either lv 1 or lv 8000 come in and spam some ads both from world chat and through your DMs which is text message in-game. Most of the time these are in Cyrillic or Chinese alphabet, making you unable to even read ads and create a loud spam bot.
Muta you've been able to just host a private/friends only session in gtao for awhile now, you don't need to block ports to get a private server.

Literally last week I went onto gta online on the pc for the first time in a couple years and when I did I was immediately getting spammed by a modder both in the chat and in phone notifications all saying the same exact thing and kept hearing random sound effects going off.

i won’t even lie i use mod menus in gta online consistently, but i don’t use them to troll or bully or steal information. i just don’t have the time to sink hours into the game for a cool car or two. give myself all the cash i need and maybe drop a few hundred thousand for another player in need.
GTA 5 probably sold more copies than all the cod games combined and it took them almost a decade to shield your IP. Best game ever ❤️

Me and a couple friends have noticed that GTA online for Xbox one has been kinda fucky lately cuz we will try to get into sessions then if we want to change servers will be told failed to host server even though we are jointing pub servers and then can't get into servers even after restarting our consols

i remember buying a paid menu for gtao because of the crash exploit. Got tired of it so I joined em, With the menu you had crash protection, and it would tell you who was trying to crash you. (ip and all) just funny that mod menus had better player protection than R* ever did.
