My wife and I danced to this beautiful melody at every weekly school-sponsored dance, from the time we were teenagers. Through the years, my bride and I continued to hold each other close, as we danced at her high school reunions. About three years ago, she contracted Parkinsonism Lewy Body dementia. She passed away this May, just one month short of our 49th wedding anniversary. Now, I listen to Unchained Melody, with tears in my eyes, and a broken heart. Please tell those close to you how much you love and appreciate them. Because, no matter how many times you may say it, in the end, it won’t have been enough. May God bless you!

And one of the most beautiful live performances, of this or any song, with an incredible and absolutely effortless range and control. Bobby Hatfield was a truly gifted countertenor (aka contra tenor), the rarest male singing voice type, and this performance was a true masterpiece. His parents were in that audience, and he was striving to give the highest quality performance, to make them proud. He succeeded admirably. That we lost him to drugs is a tragedy, but the music he left behind for us, along with his partner, is a true blessing.
Oh I'm with you Jean! Only discovered this video a few months back. Gorgeous, gorgeous looking guy, and what a voice. Loved to have had a slow dance with Bobby.❤❤

One of the greatest singers and songs of all times. Remember this was live. Hardly any singers today have as pure and wonderful voice as Bobby Hatfield. Now they need extravagant lights and dancers and electronic noise to drown out their insignificant voices. There were many great singers like Bobby in the old days that didn’t need gimmicks: just Pure talent.Sad to see so many untalented pop stars making millions ( I don’t personally care) but people with true genuine talent had to travel all over to do shows to make an adequate living.

@@junaself3258 I agree. Great voice and handsome man. Recently Gianluca Ginoble of the Italian group Il Volo paid his tribute to this fantastic singer and I found it quite good. Listen it, if you like. Best regards from Italy.
I am so glad that the production value was just incredibly done. This song is about a prisoner in jail who missed his love and he wrote this song while he was in jail. There is a movie about this song, and the gentleman who produced was Bill Medley, who was Bobby Hatfield’s other half of the Righteous, who is a baratone. He couldn’t sleep one night, becaus he kept thinking about this song. So he went into the studio and dubbed some of the parts and remixed other’s. It was around 4am. These men are the most incredible singers I’ve ever heard. They are matched so well vocally and the raw emotion is so high that women keep playing it, and can’t be quiet because they are overwhelmed. Recorded in 1971, and the gentleman who wrote the lyrics is virtually unknown today. In the original man who sang the song that the film was based on is from Poland. He has a totally different voice than either of the Righteous Brothers and a delivery that is also stunning. His voice has a thick accent and it is difficult to understand at times. The remixed version was a hit instantaneously, and is considered to be one of the top 10 songs every released. This arrangement was done by the Righteous Brothers. It is so well known and has a bizarre effect on almost every person who hears it. It induces a trance-like state that is rarely seen in pop music, but is common in those who sing opera and are classically trained. I can never listen yo it only once. It is so many couple’s song and it surfacing repeatedly. The effect causes people to become almost religious about the single. I don’t think anyone will ever do it better. Unfortunately, Bobby Hatfield who nails the high notes every time, is often considered to have the best octivate range
This song smoked a cigarette after he sang it....Seriously one of the greatest live performances I have ever seen. He hit over two dozen notes perfectly....flawlessly.
I am a 1956 model. I got to see and hear true greatness that I am sure will never be repeated. The Righteous Brothers, Tom Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Roy Orbison, Gary Moore, Jim Morrison and The Doors. I like a variety of music and even at 65 I work out listening to Aim To Head 'dark techno'. But the blessing of modern technology like RUclips lets me go back in time and just for a little while I am long ago in a land far away...
i hope so i always wondered what it was like to live during the time of these legends, and if it was realized/appreciated of just how much of a privilege it was to see them in action
@Tony Keeton yeah it's not like artist can just lip sync and do it worse than today's lip sync, and it's not like autotune can make music more "interesting" with playing with autotuning sounds, like daft punk or post malone sounding sound
No auto-tune No playback Steady as a rock Live on stage Calm as a spring wind Broadcast on TV and he f@€%ing NAILS it ! Nerves of steel Voice of an angel
Story goes that Bill Medley asked Phil Spector what HE was supposed to do while Bobby sang this solo.... Spector supposedly replied. 'Don't worry 'bout it. You'll be too BUSY going to the BANK!!!!!"

@@TheTedterrific non-sense. It's the best live performance of this song of all time, that I agree on. But many singers, including male singers do have much wider octave ranges that blow this song out of the water in terms of talent.
There are many versions of this song. But Bobby Hatfield owned it. He nailed it. The melody, the voice, the timing, there is magic in it. Everything about Bobby's rendition is unbelievable.
Apparently his parents were in the audience, making him even more nervous. But that smile at the end says, "Nailed it!" Or whatever expression they used in 1965!
I remember the first time hearing this song. It was 1965 i was on my way to pick up my girlfriend, this song came on the radio. I pulled into someone driveway just to sit and listen to this masterpiece, i was totally blown away and still am. To this a this is my number one favorite song. I was lucky enough to see them in concert in 1966 , great show.

I am a 57 yr. old female. Today marks 2 yrs. ago, that I lost my precious Dad. I remember as a little girl, my Dad sitting on the edge of his bed in the back room, playing his guitar and singing this song over and over for hours. He sang it to perfection and if people could post pictures on here and if I knew how, my Daddy when he was young, looked very much like Bobby Hatfield...so good looking. On this day, 2nd anniversary of losing my Dad, I listen to this song alone over and over for hours. You can't just walk away. I play it in honor of my Dad. I still have my Donny Osmond albums and he sings this song, but, no one can sing it like this guy and like my Daddy did. I LOVE YOU, DAD and I miss you terribly. I close my eyes and listen to this and am taken back to you in your room. Bobby Hatfield...you always will be a legend. I love all your songs, but, this the most...hauntingly beautiful and amazing beyond words.
There are a lot of great and talended singers out there, even today. Many that I admire. But I have never seen anyone who can just open their mouth, so effortlessly, and out comes perfection. How is that even possible?
AnneSvensen I don’t believe I have ever saw a comment about a singer so Beautiful as this one by you and directed at Bobby Hatfield who is the singer of this Beautiful song, your comment would have been Heartfelt by Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers for sure..!!!
Trust me on this one. There's a guy that can do this maybe even better (he reaches higher notes) but he sings in Spanish. Either way his voice is powerful and natural. So yes there's talent around.
Bobby’s air control during this performance is just absolutely ridiculously good. He was voice healthy and well prepared. Probably the best live performance I’ve ever seen. What a time to be alive. Damn
I'm a jazz/60s crooner/blue eyed soul vocalist. This is the holy grail. The most difficult song to sing of all time. Not just the vocals which Bobby's here could not be more perfect but, you must have the confidence and 100% in the moment. Make the audience understand the pain of the song and beautiful. Incredible.
I knew Bobby since I first got to meet Bill and Bobby is San Jose, CA in 1963. He was a great guy and after seeing him and Bil about 50-60 times, you really get to know them. This song was written by Alex North (music) and Hy Zaret (lyrics). This is from "The Andy Williams Show" 10-25-1965. It was a greatest live version I ever heard Bob sing.

@@BertSmithLondon The reason Elvis’ version is so praised is because the man died a couple of months after the performance. He was literally on deaths doorstep, in his 40s and definitely past his prime. Despite all that, he still managed to sing with the same voice that made him famous in years prior. I’m not going to discount this version since I’m not much of a singer but Bobby is in his 20s here, so of course he is going to sound better.
After Bobby recorded the studio version, he said to the producer "I want to do it again. I can do it better." The producer said "No, you can't." As it turned out, he COULD do it better.

I don’t get why he is on zero of them…. Like I am clearly not a big fan of his. And still, he has an incredible voice and was popular. I don’t know why he’s seemingly been forgotten in a lot of places.
No one and I mean no one has come close to his performance of this song.
@@junaself3258 I agree. Great voice and handsome man. Recently Gianluca Ginoble of the Italian group Il Volo paid his tribute to this fantastic singer and I found it quite good. Listen it, if you like. Best regards from Italy.

@@rustillthere.5024 Thanks! 😎👍

Agreed, Bobby absolutely smashes it. 👌
Yes indeed, an epic performance, and live. What guts it has to take to hit that final high falsetto note. But Bobby practiced :D
And had a cup of coffee.
Amazing
How lucky are we that this was filmed... absolutely staggering performance.
The Andy Williams orchestra hit it out of the park as well on this one !

@Tony Keeton yeah it's not like artist can just lip sync and do it worse than today's lip sync, and it's not like autotune can make music more "interesting" with playing with autotuning sounds, like daft punk or post malone sounding sound
And the rest was left to nature.
That voice and song never gets old- a masterpiece in 1965 to infinity and beyond

I am 69 and grew up on The Beatles. I ignored this song all my life and just attributed its popularity to pure hype. I finally gave it a listen to about six months ago and I must admit that I was terribly wrong. Immediately shot into my top 5 and is without a doubt one of the two greatest love songs ever recorded. There are many versions of this song. But Bobby Hatfield owned it. He nailed it. The melody, the voice, the timing, there is magic in it. Everything about Bobby's rendition is unbelievable.

Apparently his parents were in the audience, making him even more nervous. But that smile at the end says, "Nailed it!" Or whatever expression they used in 1965!
he was proud to present it tho
I actually think he sang this song better as his voice aged - especially when I saw him & Bill medley in Pittsburgh, Pa maybe in the 90's.
