This is somewhat debatable. Knoth didn’t start the cult until he was in his 40s, and Marta seems like she was raised in the cult considering how deeply she believes it. Marta being his “intimate companion since childhood” could mean since her childhood, when Knoth was an adult. Knoth is supposed to be in his 70s-80s, so likely Marta isn’t that old
