    Chat bubbles is what i want the most, i really feel like there's a disconnect between your character talking and just talking in a tiny chat box on the side, it's incredibly easy to miss out that someone was addressing you in /say and i imagine people would be a lot more social if they saw people chatting on a visual level like that

      @@DreamingVoid you're assuming it'd be a binary interpretation. My thought would be proximity based; only players within x many alms, or who have targeted you can display speech bubbles by default, with the regular text box remaining intact and functioning as normal.
      The user interface is very customizable and tends to have the most favored or recommended default settings when you first log in, but you are encouraged to tweak for your perfect experience. For instance, some people prefer sound to be based on camera position, others on their avatar position in the world. This is critical to your personal experience, but how do you choose which is the default for all players?

    I really hope they change the house furnishing placement, even though it's lower priority since not everyone has property. I don't use addons, but I seen that one that allows you to move items freely, and it hurts to see how much easier things can be, instead of having to glitch for hours.

      I personally don't feel the need to use any mods, but text to speech should just be in the game anyways. It's an accessibility feature that should be in the settings just like the colorblind modes and there's not really an excuse for it to not be in the game.
      Edit: to add another point to this, at least in the USA (one of the countries FFXIV is distributed) companies are legally responsible for providing accomodations to anyone using their products/services so the fact that SE has gotten away with not providing at least approved 2nd party support for TTS is baffling to me. Then again, it's the same thing as their own ToS, unless someone decides to take them to court over it SE won't be held accountable.

    Chat organising tools such as highlighting the names of specific players, friends, people in friends list groups, etc. The ability to hide emotes from players not on your friends list or outside a whitelist. The ability to highlight your name when it's mentioned in chat, emotes, etc.
    Auto-opening the loot menu when new loot is added, and the ability to move/resize the big dialogue box that pops up in duties. Official bard midi or midi keyboard input support. BDO has this! If midi support was official, it would be much easier for them to stop unlicensed songs from being played, which is against the ToS and can lead to legal issues.
    As far as shaders go, I feel like that will be much less of a problem once we get the graphical upgrades. It's looking that way at least.

      People will always want to make their game unique. I think focusing on GShade is a mistake since there are likely other programs and applications that can do this. Photographers etc use monitor calibrators and people can use them to change screen "colors". I think GShade just makes it easier for the average person who doesn't know these other apps exist.
      I would rather they focus on actual in-game things like you mention as well as the ability to resize the in-game chat panels so that it's not gigantic compared to my other UI elements. I would rather there be a sliding scale for UI elements instead of preset choices especially since there seems to be a big jump in options on the lower end (60% and then 80%).

    • @Ashtari
      @Ashtari 2 года назад +14

      @@Tresorthas Yoshida knows English but he's very self conscious about speaking it. He feels he's not very good with speaking English. So the most we usually get in English is his introduction or him saying 'no' or 'yes' if a question or suggestion really gets to him.
      Like in America, English is taught in schools but after a certain point, you're not required to take it unless you need it for a job. SE is first and foremost a JAPANESE developer. Most of their games never come to the English speaking world.
      Yoshida is also their FIRST dev to insist on speaking directly to the players. Before him, you'd NEVER hear anything from SE unless it's a prepared statement from their translation/marketing teams or a fan translated interview.
      There's a reason why in FF11 we joked about a 'JP' button. And that the American forums would ask bilingual players to translate our concerns and bring them to the Japanese forums for us. Otherwise we'd get ignored.
      Just the fact that Yoshida is willing to speak to us with a translator sometimes is a HUGE step forward.

    A lot of the mods talked are very interesting, and i would have asked for them. I would add :
    - Something that keep track of the chatlog. when i'm RPing it's hard to keep track of what have been said, and i lately turned to copy paste all the text manually and it's complicated
    - bring back the ears/ hats and use the mods existing to Hrothgar and Viera
    - i wish some of the emotes could stay. resting face, reading, eating, hugging. And i wish we could choose the way some emote works. I don't want to /feintdeath when i'm lala because it's just ridiculous. And it's sad, considering i've paid for this emote. I notice they've released the sitting and the staying resting pose, you can choose, so if they could do the same to face (like, i have a friend who's character is /confidentsmile all the time, my character is more on /worried, another is often showing his anger...)
    - I wish you could do raid24 in exploration mode. I want to visit Dalmasca, and not while fighting
    I know, all of this is for RP, and it's not the majority of player that does but that's what i would love.

    Desperately want all of those QoL/accessibility things to be added. My ADHD brain would personally love either TTS or just flat out more voiced things in the game, especially the dialogue that pops up during duties/raids/etc because I always miss it even though it's in the middle of the screen since I'm busy, you know, doing combat. No idea why ALL of that isn't voiced especially when it links into abilities the bosses are using sometimes???
    On a completely different note I'd love to see something that lets us have more UI elements only show when hovered over or being actively used if we chose to. A delayed fade-out for the chatbox after the most recent message, etc, so when we're just wandering around the world our unused UI disappears and lets us appreciate the view. Right now I just have a toggle for my "MSQ-mode" UI to turn off all unnecessary components but it's annoying to have to switch back and forth manually.

A streamer said they would use it in fights where you had to be able to see the direction of some boss ability - so the light or glow would increase from the noise of the boss's ability on the left or right of his screen and he'd know to run the opposite way. FFXIV does this well - but it's not perfect, nothing ever is/will be. But I can play this game A LOT easier due to controller input with my disability. MKB with dexterity/claw hands in near impossible at times; that's not to say it's easy on controller - but it's more accessible, for me. Also SSS is a very half-baked solution to improving your skill and doesn't make sense for the most part. Fly to Idyl/Rhalgr/Eulmore/Radz > pick the fight that you want to test on > oh you didn't gear sync yourself for older fights? Too bad > never coming back ever again.
    Training dummies at various locations and even housing on the other hand for the most part is perfect if you want to build in that muscle memory but the downside is the fact that you don't know what you're doing is right.

It happened for SB's rdm or shb's machinist and others that i can't remember. Plus a 3 min fight without mecanics isn't representative: you can squeeze more ressources in the 3 minutes that you'd keep for a 4 min burst normally, leading to an artificial higher dps, crits and DH have way more impact and for jobs relying on high burst with low filler dps you will always have the same kill time because you will kill during the last burst. What we want to know is if a fight has multiple disengage where you can't target the boss: do i do better if i keep my burst before, after, how do I use my buffs: you have no idea if you are doing good or not, which lead to enrages: having DPS CHECKS in a game where you can't check your dps is dumb. Most DF people don't do half the dps they should with their level and you don't need to have a parser to know it, you can see it just by looking at how they move and play. Where ACT is useful is for the high end duties where you need to know where that 1k dps is missing from.

    The stuff from 11:14 onwards, about the improvements in high ping environments, is extremely important. This game has servers in very few regions (when compared to similar games), so any and every improvement that could be made in regards to this has to be considered. This is no simple request, but it's nevertheless needed, both for the existing players and in order for the game to grow.
    Of course, the ideal solution would be to have servers in more regions, but I have no hopes for this to happen. In the Live Letter about the future of the game, they didn't talk about getting servers in more regions.

    For some tiny personal input, for the love of god SE, I found out a couple days ago that one tweak in one plugin was to disable targeting via the right mouse button. This is something I've wanted almost since I started playing because it's easy to accidentally target something while trying to move the camera repeatedly in combat.
    I've gone through official channels and encouraged likeminded people to weigh in. When it's way more convenient to set up and use said plugin than it is to even suggest that tweak for inclusion in the actual game, people are obviously going to go that route instead of trying to give feedback.
    SE needs to open communication about these features and welcome input. Most people are just trying to make the game more enjoyable to play without hurting integrity or hurting other people.

    • @Mouse-go3gc
      @Mouse-go3gc 2 года назад +1

      You can also simply fix that issue but not have your cursor over anything/anyone when moving your camera. That's a very miniscule issue that can easily be fixed by the player just paying attention to their cursor. If you tend to lose your cursor, you can make it bigger or even change the color to see it better.
      Yoshi has always been open to input. So much has changed in the game because of player input. And they're planning to implement stuff from mods because of input. I don't see how that's not welcoming? Usually during liveletters, you can talk in chat (attempt to lol, it goes so quickly), and hope they catch your question or submit questions/suggests that they'll respond to for Q&A liveletters. But it would be impossible to have a direct conversation and the suggestion box is probably over flowing.

    I know this isn't the main point of the video, but for the person at 14:10 whoever that may be, there actually IS a way to "see shields" when not in a party. If you go to Character Configuration > UI setting > Party List, there's an option labeled "Hide party list when solo" and if you uncheck that, it'll show your name in the top left (or wherever your party list is) even if you're not in a party.
    But now to the main point of the video, I agree with what the plugin dev said at the end where, most of the plugins I've heard about/seen make them out of wanting the game to improve, not to harm or undermine the work that SE has done for the game. They do it out of their passion for the game, and see something that SE might not see and go "hey maybe we can improve on that to help out more people"

    I've been QA on an MMO for a WHILE now and I agree with the points about overwhelming QA. I really could see it becoming a snowballing situation where development just keeps getting more and more delayed because of edge case issues for these new features being discovered constantly.
    That and I wouldn't be surprised if the 1.0 spaghetti code would make their jobs 1000000000 times harder too
    EDIT: Also on Yoshida being unaware of ping issues, I buy it. Its super unlikely that a test environment would be able to accurately simulate high ping. There are tools for it, obviously, but as with all things in a test environment it rarely actually compares to the real thing

    • @24hr-Gaming
      @24hr-Gaming 2 года назад

      But that has to do with the dev cycle not making room for QoL improvements. It's not like QA cares whether those features are in or not, they just want to sign off on whatever they have to sign off before the deadline. Using QA as an excuse is dumb. That's a software development cycle issue.
      And for high ping simulation, there are a ton of tools where you can intentionally throttle your connection or make packet delays. Testing against high ping is not really rocket science, especially these days. But who knows what if any debug tools they actually give QA.
      Hell, they wouldn't even need to do setup for high ping or setup a test environment. Just have their QA testers play on EU server with a few classes and record doing the same rotation against playing on JP. That's how players in the wild noticed it.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure Playstation and Xbox have tools to let you simulate that on dev builds and PC there's a ton of programs that can be used to simulate high ping. You don't even need to do anything else besides install the program and put in the settings or use a preset. I feel bad for you if the company you work for doesn't even have that. And if Square Enix doesn't have that either, shame on them.
      Live server testing is also pretty common too. Sometimes in multiplayer games you'll see a group of strange looking players, there's a non-zero chance that is a QA team live testing network mode.

    • @BiscottoPlays
      @BiscottoPlays 2 года назад

      @@24hr-Gaming When new features are added QA has to test all of what was added, plus an entire RC cycle worth of testing that covers every function and facet of the game in at least some capacity. So merely adding chat bubbles would require a chat bubbles test in WIP, to confirm the features working. Then again in RC. Alongside that one measly RC test would be a full smoke test. Login checks for all platforms, a test of the glamour system, raids, dungeons, trials, ultimates, NPC dialogue, NPC pathing, levelling up, abilities working as intended, particle systems working as intended, etc etc. Where theres smoke, theres fire after all.
      And thats just off the top of my head, i'm not a SE employee so i'm sure theres more than just that. But even then thats a nightmarish amount of RC QA work for a small patch release.
      As for your point on throttle tools. Yup they exists, but as you mentioned theres no way to know what tools are given. Its sad but true to say that adding new tools is always a last minute thing because of the manhours it uses to train staff to use that tool. But I do agree that getting a lag box in wouldn't be too hard. They'd have to confirm any findings with the tool in a live environment too though, which can take a while.

    One of the interesting things I've heard about parsing was from asmon. They had spent all day wiping, and then he got fed up and turned of something that allowed people to compare their parse to the party, and that run they cleared it. I think they're a good, innocent feature, but they frequently push people to act differently, and play intentionally worse to hit those slightly larger numbers, regardless of the cost to the party and ultimately the player base.

      I don't think all people using DPS meters are toxic, that's not the problem. However, it's been proven in just about every single MMO out there, that DPS meters are the single most common source of toxicity. As long as there's this "1st rule of DPS meter is you don't talk about DPS meter" policy, it's more or less OK.
      Just think about it. You have a bad day. You have a DPS meter. You see one player is doing bad DPS. You say it, just this once, just because you have a bad day. Here you are, toxicity, supported by the DPS meter (I'm not saying the DPS meter caused it, your bad day did, but the DPS meter helped to actually be toxic). If a DPS meter was built into the game and only 0.01% of the players would make inappropriate comments about DPS from time to time for any reason, toxicity would go through the roof.
      Also, I think, a DPS meter on screen in real time is utterly useless. The only real value of it is to be able to bark at the poor guy on the bottom of that meter to let off some steam when you're annoyed for some reason, which is not useful at all. What is useful, however, is some good analysis tools outside the duty to gauge and optimise yourself. (OK, there's one scenario where a live DPS meter could be useful: to determine whom to raise first when things go south in a PUG)
      Some suggestions:
      1. ESO has a cool solution: when you start attacking a target dummy, the game automatically starts recording. When the dummy "dies", it shows you a summary of your DPS in the chat as system message. It's a great way to measure yourself and optimise your build and rotation.
      2. There's a duty recorder in FFXIV. I've actually never tried it, so I can't say how useful it is. However, the concept of recording a run and analysing it afterwards has some great potential (in fact, it's what the popular 3rd party tools do). In 3 years of FFXIV, I've only once seen a dialog "Player X wants to record this duty, do you agree?" - great, it's even opt-in. :) It's probably useless in its current form, otherwise, more people would use it. But the foundation is there, SE just has to make it useful. ;)

      @@raffaelherzog5098 Live DPS meters are useful for deciding who to give astro cards to, who to dance partner, who to give dragon eyes, it's also useful to just get on-the-spot feedback about your performance, so you can adjust accordingly on the spot instead of waiting a whole instance timer before you can sit down and see what happened. I use it all the time when doing savage/extreme content, and at worst it's a non-factor that causes no hindrance, and at best it tells me if I'm underperforming so I can change my gameplay on the spot (particularly valuable on healers since it tells me how much I'm overhealing).
      Regarding the toxicity argument, it is true that there is toxicity born from parsing, but it's very important to make the distinction between parsing and harassing. There is a very obvious, black and white line between simply using a parsing or even mentioning it, and using it to bully and harass someone, crossing that line should be the point of concern and banning.

There's definitely compromises if he's worried about people being hassled over it. Plus, the harassment policy is already extremely broad so people who are nasty will end up reported anyway.

    I definitely agree with the housing ideas. Glitching things to float is a pain with a mouse, and almost impossible with a controller. I was able to do it once, but it took me a couple of hours just to float one item, and I haven't been able to do it since, but I'd love to have things on top of the lofts we have in-game; at least let them be considered a solid surface so I can put things on top of them.
    Accessibility optIons would be amazing. I have a tough time reading the font they use for the numbers, and all 2, 5, 6, 8, and 9s all look similar to me. The ability to change the font to a few preset options would be immensely helpful, and an option for larger cooldown numbers would seriously help. Sure, it's there if you mouse over, but that isn't available for controller players. I also think a text-to-speech accessibility option would definitely help, especially for those of us with issues like ADHD or dyslexia, who find it hard to read a lot of text; while I'd love the whole thing to be voiced, I can see how that wouldn't be particularly feasible, especially with the voice acting for ARR being different from the rest of the game.
    UI modularity is a great idea. Separating HP and MP the way you can separate buffs, debuffs, and "other" would be great, since all the non-caster classes (plus PLD and DRK) don't even use it.

      It reduces a lot the base difficulty of the game and that is something that you don’t want. It turns every jobs into one button.
      Instead what you can do is having a better keybind.
      Actually I use only 123 numbers on the top of my keyboard. I use Shift/Alt to get 2 different variations (which leads to have 6 more buttons on 123). Something I think needs to be pointed out, and it's something I imagine most people don't know(I sure didn't until Bungie just straight up explained it regarding Destiny 2) is that certain elements of the game, from UI elements to actual functions of certain things, often have a hard limit on how much they can show/do in the game engine itself.
    As an example from Destiny 2, weapons used to be able to create something called "Orbs of Power", which when picked up did various things based on your build. However, Bungie wanted to add a new type of perk to weapons that would give them different bonuses based on the content the weapon was received from. To do this, they had to remove the ability to create Orbs of Power, because it having both would exceed the hard limit on how much any single gun can actually do built in to the engine.
    There's a hard limit on how many different functions a single piece of gear can support enforced by the engine, and exceeding that would require a significant amount of time and effort.
    I imagine this is what the FF14 devs mean when they say something "Won't fit" or that a feature simply "Can't be added". It's not literally impossible, but simply far more effort and risk than it seems.

  • @Mister_Vyar
    @Mister_Vyar 2 года назад +3

    I think it's important to note that combo plugins are also helpful for accessibility, it's not just about text-to-speech and colorblind modes. SE doesn't need to simplify PvE rotations down to a single button, but they should maybe consider adding an optional setting to condense certain combo strings individually, much like they've already done for certain combo actions that transform into their next step instead of being mapped on two separate buttons.
    It's why I'm frustrated by things like removing Kaiten from SAM. As a physically disabled gamer, removing Kaiten is not making the job more fun for me, but being able to condense combos would. I like having all these different actions in a rotation, I just don't necessarily think we need separate keybinds for every single one. It's very frustrating to enter my combos in the wrong order when I play SAM, because it's not like I don't know the order. The instructions just got muddled on their way from my brain to my fingertips. It's almost like kinesthetic dyslexia, if that makes sense.
    I can't really think of a way to describe it to people who don't have my particular form of cerebral palsy, but imagine if you had to think about breathing manually while you were juggling boss mechanics. That's kind of how it feels to play SAM with my fine-motor issues. I have to focus more on precise inputs for combos than most other people would, and this detracts from my ability to react to floor mechanics and other things that go on during a fight.

    3:30 I love this point. "People might say it's less efficient, but I don't think a game is fun if all it does is push for efficiency."
    Could not agree more. There's another way of putting it and I see Min-Maxers become guilty of this the most: "Optimize the fun out of a game."
    You do not need ACT. Period. Is it helpful? Sure. Needed? Absolutely not. If you are curious about clearing a raid damage wise, that's the entire point of Stone, Sky, Sea. If you can clear that, the rest is learning the fight. Simple as that.

    • @ikillforgood
      @ikillforgood 2 года назад

      The people who actually use act actually want to improve on their own. They want to improve on their rotation/buff usage/pots timer/ect. Its a big reason why they keep doing the same raid over and over again to see higher number up to a certain point. For those people they need ACT.
      And also stone,sky, and sea is just bad b/c it doesn't count movement throughout the fight and other people party buff ect.
      You can't tell other people how to play their game by saying "I don't think a game is fun by pushing efficiency" because there always people that do care about pushing damage and seeing actual number and their skill timeline.
      I personally used act to help me improve A LOT on my rotation and combat skills and it nice to see the improvement across weeks of doing raids that i am getting more cast in or i am getting more uptime.
      Also anyone using act to harass people is big no no. I just want to state that. And from my experience in PF that i have a lot of cleared this tier. I haven't seen a single person be toxic about dmg in chat/in game about it at least so far...

      @@ikillforgood And I get what ACT is used for. It's why I said "useful but not necessary." Also why I said that learning the fight is what's next after knowing you can clear the fight damage-wise.
      I used to use ACT for the same reasons so I get where you're coming from. I'm just saying that at the end of the day, it's not a manadatory mod for clearing high end content and it's never coming to the game. Yoshi-P has and always will be adamant about that. And so long as that's his stance, then people will get into trouble for using it IF they are very public about it.

    Wouldn't want to play the game without all the simple tweaks I'm using. Rather eat a ban than lose them.
    People have been asking for these things for 10 years now, the ui was dated and archaic even way back at release.
    They've said so many things aren't possible, while mods have been doing them for years. They even said that about the collectible obtained indicator that they just added.

      There is a factor of modding doesn't need to have as much quality control as official release. Given I imagine there are some that are above or on par with what SE can put out.

    The only thing that frustrates me with the dev team and Yoshi is the constantly CONSTANTLY say 'we can't it's impossible' or 'it's too hard!' Yet random players can toss them out left and right from their laptops and a bit of skill. Prolly shouldn't say that sorta thing when hobbyists are doing the job pretty well without official resources.

    While I get a DPS meter is good for those that want to just improve, let's look at WoW. How often are DPS meters used to shame people, cause people to leave groups in protest, etc. YoshiP is dead on accurate with this, he doesn't want WoW's toxicity.

      @@seven2eight2 You don't think people would ask to see parses for certain content? I guess I should state, toxicity through shaming is only one part of the problem, the other is barring entry to content using parses as a means to bar someone. Even if WoW's was "personal" the community would find ways to use it for ill. I mean, I can see someone shaming someone else then being all "show me your parse! prove it!"

      Because departments have budgets both in time and money. They also have to implement stuff at least semi-properly. What mods currently are doing, is to hook onto specific events and execute arbitrary code. That is not how you develop, like at all.
      Idk if you know WoW, but the original designer of the Monk class implemented the roll ability, which had a novel type of movement associated with it, within the designers workspace. It worked, but once the engineer he was working with got their eyes on it, the engineer basically went: "We can't do it that way" and did it properly, in the right places, presumably in part that you can actually use that type of movement on other classes than Monk, without having to use even worse hackjobs.
      That's the basis of all development environments that have more than a single department.

    • @DFell3
      @DFell3 2 года назад

      The full picture is that all of these things are 100% possible for them to do, so they should stop making a bunch of excuses and either say no, not going to happen, or just "we'll look into it" and leave it at that, or even just ignore the question. Too much time to develop? Say that. The fact that YoshiP has said the word "impossible" only to have that thing introduced months later is silly.

    • @Opharg

      @@DFell3 That's absolutely valid criticism, and I tend to agree.
      Proper communication is key and while they are pretty outstanding in comparison to other AAA titles, they definitely lack in some areas. E.g. YoshiP claiming that Ping has no effect on your ability to play your job.
      Just wanted to clarify why mods are not necessarily a good argument about the possibility to implement something, outside of using them as a proof of concept. The existence of mods itself however can be a good argument that there is a desire to implement these changes.
