This is an interesting review in that you are actually forced to walk us through this game , holding our hands the entire way. It's a damn shame that a game can be so difficult that it warrants this kind of "hand-holding". But I love the fact that you took the time to point out everything in this game. You're still the greatest reviewer ever man ; )
dude, i can't believe you beat this game! i made my parents buy it for me when i was a kid, and never got past the 1st stage, after the intro stage. i think i even broke a controller out of frustration from this POS game. mad props, man - excellent walkthrough.
i just popped this baby in and i cant even pass the beggining scene on the bridge. and if i do i die at the beggning of the other scene. the guy is so slow its pathetic. how you got this far in the game is beyond me. i bow down to you master gamer.
Wow I'm impressed. You managed to play and beat this game. I've heard and seen nothing good about it and that hasn't changed. I've never played it. thank god and thank you for saving me from doing so. Great work and I look forward to the next one.
Some times you get that feeling that you HAVE to beat a certain game. Dragon's Lair was one of the few games that I tried but could not beat and glad I really didn't because of crappy endings that give little to no reward if you beat them. 2 thumbs way up for beating this game on an ACTUAL NES or without some help.
Wow, impressive that you actually beat this terrible game. That's why I like your reviews, you actually show all the game unlike other reviewers who get frustrated and stop playing.
holy shit, i actually finished this game with save states, no chance if you have this on nes unless you dedicate your life to beating it on nes epic commentary
Gee, respect for going through that mess all the way to the end! I never had enough patience to get past the first level when I got this game back then. I guess they sort of tried to emulate the trail and error gameplay of the arcade original, but the overly delayed controls and constant fuck you moments the game thows at you make it the least bit enjoyable. Great walkthrough/review man!
Don Bluth probably STILL hates that this trash bears his name ANYWHERE on it. Gh. I would be. Aiya. I never knew there even was anything past Stage 2! At least, that's all I recall seeing from any other review/video footage/whatever I've seen... Very brave man, Aqualung. You should get a medal for beating this game, save states or not. x_X Seriously.
Holy shit! I played this game 20 years ago and had nightmares about it into my 20's. I wonder if anyone has ever beaten it without being able to save via an emulator?
I heard that Silver Surfer was the hardest game of all time because of the one hit deaths, but Dragon's Lair looks like it tops it because of the unresponsive controls AND one hit deaths. And then you've got to freakin WALK on the moving platforms at they're moving. Insanity. I'll never play it.
Great review/walkthrough of a horrible game. I think you deserve a medal or something for playing this game all the way through and still have your sanity in tack.
I totally agree with you man. This game is just wrong and should not have been made. For playing this game and actually getting though it you deserve to be knighted. lol Great review as always ;)
Ghosts And Goblins, a.k.a Makaimura, for the NES is actually a lot harder than this game, especially the Japanese version where you don't even get any Continues.
Damn, you'd think after beating a game that hard they'd at least show you a scene of Daphne giving Dirk head for saving her. P.S. Action 52 is WAY worse than this game.
Good gravy, did they really think the average joe would have the patience to play through this game?? For me, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the worst NES game I've ever played. This one may actually beat it though.
You can tell that the NES games Mario and Zelda are like 4 pts better out of ten on play control than this game. This guy doesn't say f--- every couple seconds like that other NES reviewer tard. Good. Kinda ruins the childhood Nintendo memories.
ouch. the worst game? yeah, i almost agree with you, though I see where you're coming from. i hate it just as much as you do, and i can't even beat it, but Action 52 is 10x worse than any game ever made.
Making a roll of toilet "paper" out of bad NES game cartridges sounds funny, but probably hurts if used.. So it's a "pain in the ass" to beat the game and use it as toilet paper either way.
Back in ~1990, I finished the first level, didn't understand the elevator shaft to move between stages, an invincible king appears and a throne and.. I gave up. But I liked the graphics, the game is shitty, really.
Bit late to the party with this, but what does collecting gold do for you in the game?
Just bonus points, which mean fuck-all in this game.

The Dreaded Elevator Shaft, the Pointless Bonus Stage, and the F***ing Drawbridge Level. LOL
I like how it's so unforgiving that you have to describe every single action in perfect detail.
dude, i can't believe you beat this game! i made my parents buy it for me when i was a kid, and never got past the 1st stage, after the intro stage. i think i even broke a controller out of frustration from this POS game. mad props, man - excellent walkthrough.
How could ANYONE have beaten this game???? There should have been a cash prize for anyone that could beat this without an emulator!!!!
i just popped this baby in and i cant even pass the beggining scene on the bridge. and if i do i die at the beggning of the other scene. the guy is so slow its pathetic. how you got this far in the game is beyond me. i bow down to you master gamer.
Good lord, you're a brave man to play this game, good Review/Walkthrough
this game is ridiculous i congratulate u on your patience to do this.
What ever happened to your video on Castle Of Decite?
Wow I'm impressed. You managed to play and beat this game. I've heard and seen nothing good about it and that hasn't changed. I've never played it. thank god and thank you for saving me from doing so.

With patience like that, you sir, are a better man than I.
dude, you deseve a fucking medal for not only playing it, BUT PASSING IT. dude, you got balls
Nice review/walkthrough. I knew this game sucked, but not this bad. It's really impressive that you beat it.
Wow, impressive that you actually beat this terrible game. That's why I like your reviews, you actually show all the game unlike other reviewers who get frustrated and stop playing.
you deserve the nobel prize for this one
holy shit, i actually finished this game with save states, no chance if you have this on nes unless you dedicate your life to beating it on nes
epic commentary
well if you can beat this game your truly a real man.
+Damien Hartley "Congratulations! You had the patience to play through this awful game! You proved your nerdiness! Now go fuck yourself!"
Don,t know how to fuck self!shenloken2
What was the space game that is simalar to the arcade verson of dragons lair
Swords and Serpents was pretty neat, but it would be pretty hard for a kid.
Gee, respect for going through that mess all the way to the end! I never had enough patience to get past the first level when I got this game back then.

Great walkthrough/review man!
How DARE you give this game an F?! That's WAY too generous! :)
MasterOfTheObvious that’s the lowest the Grading scale goes. But I’m going to have to give this game a new rating: Z
All Hail Aqualung....Great job man...I think I would have jumped over a bridge if I had to play this game and beat it.
Jeeze
LOL best ending ever, i bet aqualung still has nightmares about this game after editing :D
LOL I got this game as a christmas present from my grandmother one year...I almost would have preferred the usual socks or sweaters LOL
Respect for beating this game. I couldnt bare the controls.. It was and is horrendous..
The music at the end its cool.
Up to the dragon, why does the speed run on RUclips show a dude walking straight past THE dragon
Don Bluth probably STILL hates that this trash bears his name ANYWHERE on it. Gh. I would be. Aiya. I never knew there even was anything past Stage 2! A couple years-ish after this review, I now wonder if there's a special place in video game hell for this 'masterpiece'...I just have to wonder.
The Lv 3 Reaper boss looks insane
Holy shit! I played this game 20 years ago and had nightmares about it into my 20's. I wonder if anyone has ever beaten it without being able to save via an emulator?
Did you use save states to beat this game?
@CaRtO0nKiD Stand as close to the wind as you can without touching it. Then do a high jump. You can just barely make it.
Thanks for doing the walkthrough.
@2tonejoker There is different NES versions, according to the country. The one of the speedrun is much easier !
I heard that Silver Surfer was the hardest game of all time because of the one hit deaths, but Dragon's Lair looks like it tops it because of the unresponsive controls AND one hit deaths. And then you've got to freakin WALK on the moving platforms at they're moving. Insanity. I'll never play it.
funny how there's a sword on the cover box but not a sword in the game :p
This game is a bit like the old Nick Arcade show on the Nickolodeon Channel
id assume this game is harder than battletoads due to the controls.
very well done
nice game choice :D
You've got to make that hard final jump TWICE to avoid getting the dagger? Ridiculous.
It's weard, this is another game I thought people would love, even though I hated it myself.
I do believe that AVGN DID get past the elevator, sisnce he played the second stage
9 people gave this game an A+
I own this game, your review Enticed me to try it again for lols, and well. Yeah... Bad Idea, I Think an F was too kind.
I've never played this game I doubt I ever will. I've played some hard NES games but this looks almost impossible.
you using an emulator? if so which one?
who made this game
At least, there is no jumpback after being hit =) That would make DL impossible
Great review/walkthrough of a horrible game.
I think you deserve a medal or something for playing this game all the way through and still have your sanity in tack.
Puffs of smoke kill you?? I guess it's toxic, lol.
At 1:06 how the f**k did you get to the platform above? i simply can't do it! :(
This Game took me a few months to beat
You are insane for even playing this!!
I've played this game to the bitter end, and it was not fun at all. I'll probably make a video about it sometime.
PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEEE make a walkthrough for I WANNA BE THE GUY!!!!!!!! :)
I envy a massacre who takes the time to actually try to see an ending instead of turning off the console one tenth through the game. Thanks man.
Shame it sucks so bad. The graphics are gorgeous. Love the last two boss stages.
This is admirable =)!!
A well deserved F for the Disney wannabe! Good call Aqualung, good call!
Rocks fall, Dirk dies.
See what I did there?
agreed. This game had never interested me. I remember when it came out back in the day and the art style was enough to annoy me.
You got more balls than AVGN to play the entire game.
Wow and I thought the arcade version was hard
Brave man. I wouldn't/couldn't do it.
Good shit, mate. I rather enjoyed this.
You have a butt-load of patience!
So sad that even awesome graphics couldn't get this game a better rating!
Oh,and you want a legendary bad game? Try Dr. Jekkyl and Mir. Hyde. I double dog dare ya to play it. :P
I totally agree with you man. This game is just wrong and should not have been made. For playing this game and actually getting though it you deserve to be knighted. lol Great review as always ;)
@AqualungGameReviews I never played this game because I don’t have that game, and I’m glad I don’t have to play it.
Yeah, I agree this game is just royally bad. I thought Conan and Convoy no Nazo were bad, but, at least, they're playable haha!
Ghosts And Goblins, a.k.a Makaimura, for the NES is actually a lot harder than this game, especially the Japanese version where you don't even get any Continues.
Both are insanely difficult. Although I had less trouble with Ghosts n Goblins until the very last level.
The only good thing about this game is that they spelt Congratulations correctly.
Space Ace.
man this is a game to torture yourself..you have a lot of patience , even if you used save states
This game is damn short! But FUCKING HARD!!!
musta been fuckin hell to get through this, huh?
For the love of God, how much trial and error did you have to go through to finish this monstrosity?
@Johnnycrazy18 I gave it a thumbs up just for that.
Yeah, Silver Surfer was the only game ever made with one-hit deaths...
so let me get this straight the dragons lair is the worst for the nes but dosnt karate outsuck dragons lair by miles?
F for Dragons Lair hmmm seems okay to me.
Damn, you'd think after beating a game that hard they'd at least show you a scene of Daphne giving Dirk head for saving her.
P.S. Action 52 is WAY worse than this game.
You say it's the worst NES game ever made? Worse than Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?
Good gravy, did they really think the average joe would have the patience to play through this game??
For me, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the worst NES game I've ever played. This one may actually beat it though.

god this game looks brutal
not as bad as action 52
nice review this game seems impossable T_T
Nice Job! Please some give this guy a Donation,, Sorry Im from spain we are poor.
WOW that video pissed me off without ever even playing the game haha
Making a roll of toilet "paper" out of bad NES game cartridges sounds funny, but probably hurts if used..
So it's a "pain in the ass" to beat the game and use it as toilet paper either way.
F? I would've given it a Z-
Please tell me you used an emulator for this.
No sane you-tuber would finish the cartridge version just for his fans would he?
Mike Matei has.
Wow this game looks terrible, glad my mom didn't get this when I was a kid or else I would have prolly broke something.
Good review dude.
Back in ~1990, I finished the first level, didn't understand the elevator shaft to move between stages, an invincible king appears and a throne and.. I gave up. But I liked the graphics, the game is shitty, really.
