Quo Vladis for the win, that was some fun music , very danceable. Your number one snuck this video by me again John. Happy New Year to you. Television Personalities also sounded quite good.
Loved the intro. Eye catching cover on the Television Personalities. I really dig the sparse/the point black & white album cover art like that one. I just checked out the version of "Heart Full Of Soul" by The Embrooks. It sounds so good. You consistently tune me into new artists and bands John. I enjoyed the variety of albums. Thank you and my best to you and your family at Christmas time. Have a super fun day~ Rob/Boston
I know I will always start smiling with your intros. Nice finds. The French psyche and The Embrooks sounded particularly good to me. Hopy you had a good Christmas, and the very best for 2025, Richard
Hi John, I hope your neighbours never see you when you're filming those wonderful intros 🤣. Well done on picking up Warrior - superb album. Shame it wasn't the fold out cover but they can be difficult to find. Had a look online about the Psyche France album. I have only heard of one of the acts - the final one Michel Ripoche. He was a violinist who played with the prog band Zoo (who I haven't heard), but he was also part of Jannick Top's 18 piece band Utopic Sporadic Orchestra in 1975 along with Christian Vander and other Magma luminaries. Think they only played a few gigs and released one live archival CD many years later (which is a must have for any Magma fan). - big band zeuhl! He also played on the sessions that produced Vangelis' two albums Hypothesis and The Dragon, which I love but Vangelis was unhappy that they were released. Plainsong were the band you were trying to think of that Ian Matthews founded post Southern Comfort. Glad you got more out of The Mamas & Papas album than I did - I was very disappointed in it. Have a great Christmas sir!
It has crossed my mind that all this wig wearing might worry the neighbours. Thanks for all the background on Michel Ripoche. I aim to check out more of the Psyche France records. Merry Christmas to you, Pete and best wishes for 2025!
Nice mix of finds as usual John. I liked the sound of the Embrooks, I'll have to look into them. I also need to try and squeeze a last finds video into 2025. Have a nice Christmas, cheers Dale
Thanks Bob. I’d like to hear / own some of the earlier volumes of Psyche France. Have seen some turn up in RPM shop in Newcastle, but not Volume One. Merry Christmas to you!
I havent gotta clue about psych music etc... but i know a lovely old fireplace when i see one,i think I've possibly mentioned it before 🤔 I picked up a Hawkwind LP myself a short while ago....Master of the universe. I'm not a particular fan of the band except for the odd song or two,the title track being one of them. Your intros always make me chuckle 👍👍👍
Thanks Nick. This house was built in 1959 so the old fireplace is original. I think you’d like the Hawkwind album I showed if you like Master of the Universe. Merry Butty Christmas!
In regards to the Hawkwind album, I think it’s one of they’re best records. I have a US pressing and it sounds really good. There’s also a three cd set that contains extra tracks, I highly recommend that one. I always enjoy your videos, look forward to more cool selections from you. Wishing you a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the states..🎄🎸
Well done on the OG Warrior On the Edge of Time..i succumbed to a modern reissue ( albeit with the fold out sleeve). I will check out Psyche France, as i like 60s and 70s French pop and rock. Nice vclt from Pete..i have that last Mamas and Papas album, i really like it despite the low mix of Mama Cass' vocals. I have the Hollies ' Butterfly' album that is pretty good..will look out for ' Evolution '. The Embrookes sound great..fabulous energy and vocals. Hope you have a great Christmas John. 🎅🌲
Nice to see an Ian Matthews LP - people never seem to mention him much. I have "Tygers Will Survive" from which is quite good, but I really recommend the Plainsong LP from 1972, "In Search of Amelia Earheart". If you like the Joni song about Amelia (and I know you do), you really should hear this touching record. Songs with a historical theme and avery good photo collage in the gatefold. Sandy Roberton produced it, and Andy Roberts from Liverpool Scene appears.
Hard to believe Igor Wakhévitch is on one of those Psyche France comps!...I know him mainly as a 1970s avant-garde composer, producing such "difficult" works as 'Docteur Faust' and 'Logos'. I suppose he too must have dabbled in the psychedelic waters...he studied under Messiaen.
I've never gone near the Michael Moorcock period of Hawkwind, but maybe I should overcome my prejudices. I never heard Michael Moorcock's Deep Fix either. Would it be fanciful to regard him as a sort of early Alan Moore figure - fantasy writer with a musical bent?
@@edpinsent9149 Moorcock's Deep Fix is ok but lacks the blasting power of Hawkwind. I realise his fantasy novels are a bit formulaic now but I lapped them up as a teen. He's a million times better than Alan Moore (spit.) Edited New Worlds magazine and supported UK new wave SF writers. I think you should give him a try. The Jerry Cornelius books are bonkers in a late 60s Ladbroke Grove way.

All the very best to you Rob for Christmas. The Embrooks are great, hope they’re getting a new album together.

Happy Christmas to you Dale. Embrooks are good, would love to see them live.
Them Psyche France comps are rather brilliant - had em all in the shop ....except Volume 1 😮 that's the one we've never seen!
Have a great Christmas 🎄

How wonderful, somebody else other than me into The TVPS, never met anyone who's even heard of them, do you live in West Brom?
No I live in County Durham. I love the TVPs. I see there’s a radio sessions double album coming out next month.
begging the video was that Brian May with the white curly hair
Velly melly Kristmas. Your fireplace is 40s your wife chose your pullover.
Sadly I chose the Xmas pullover...half price last Christmas in Morrisons!
