Great discussion. I would add that using topical organic coconut oil mixed with tea tree or rosemary essential oils may be helpful for some people. I use this homemade mixture and it helps to soften the plaques, allowing them to wash away easier. For me it seems to calm the skin down, making the plaque areas less visible. Stress is a huge trigger. When i get very stressed my psoriasis becomes noticeably worse. Depending on the severity, managing psoriasis without meds can be done, but it takes consistent diet and lifestyle modifications. Best of luck to everyone out there dealing with this. I've had mine at least 30 years and I'm doing well now. ✌️

I have Psoriasis. I have been on Humira and it totally cleared up all my Psoriasis. But now my insurance will not cover specialty medications. So now I am breaking out all over . About a year ago I completely changed my diet. I cut out about 95% of all my processed and ultra processed food I used to eat. I also cut out all added sugar and only use Stevia. I just learned that Gluten and Dairy can cause flare ups. So I cut that out as well. I have not seen a change for the better. It seems to be getting worse. I use a lot of Turmeric as well as drink Green Tea with Turmeric. I don't know what to do anymore. One of the problems here is that finding good organic and whole foods aren't available near me. I'm not giving up, I'm still trying new things.

Ok these doctors are gonna hate me, but they are right about the vitamin d. I started suntanning in the desert in the summer and noticed my psoriasis would get better. Then i thought vitamin d is like sunshine in a pill so i started taking that and kept going to the desert and my psoriasis got better and better, and has been gone for about 10 years. I self prescribed my dose of vitamin d and saw improvement. I would take 5000 iu in the morning and 5000 iu at night until my arms would feel sore when i hadn't worked out and then i would back off the D3 for a while, then start again after a few weeks until it cleared up. Everyone is different but if you notice improvement after a sunburn then you know you are on to something. I still take 2000 iu a day and still go to the colorado river in the spring summer and early fall and my skin is clear. I'm 5'9 and about 175-180 lbs. I hope this helps someone.

In 2021 I had covid. I was not vaccinated. Approximately 4-6 months later patches started behind my ears. I thought maybe it was a new pair of glasses causing it. But then a patch showed up on my head near my forehead. 58yo now, and I still have it. I have been keto for over 10 years (there are a lot of good foods to eat), but I can see that when I slip and have something with weird ingredients the patches get worse. When I'm steady and eat clean it's clear. My question is this: could covid have triggered these patches? What about menopause? I'm post menopause now. Thank you for the videos.

It is so hard to detect, in my case, that , even doctors at Mayo clinic also getting hard time. I started a vegan regime with fish salads nuts.. I will try it b3 and will give you the result.

Now for some habits that work for me based on 10+ years of trial and error, plus other educated research:
    1) Only take supplements for things you are deficient. If you have proper vitamin C levels, consuming more vitamin C isn't going to make you healthier, but it can introduce new problems due to toxicity. When your body is in balance, supplements have no benefit.
    2) Drink plenty of water, but not during meals. Water is both a lubricant and a transport vehicle within the body. Many psoriatic lesions are due to friction or easily correctible things just by drinking more water. When properly hydrated, your lesions will be fewer, and will not itch as itching is due to dryness. Don't drink during meals as it will dilute your digestive enzymes making them less effective at digestion. Water is a vehicle for transporting chemicals within the body. when you lack hydration, your body doesn't function well because it cannot deliver the goods on schedule. Your heart cannot stop beating. Your lungs cannot stop breathing. Some bodily functions operate continuously whether they have the goods or not - the show must go on. But imbalance creates a chain reaction of problems over time. You need water to keep the system functioning.
    3) For severe cases where you no longer respond to drugs, allogeneic transplant of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has proven to be effective and safe. I used them to get out of a very bad spot where my body was 90% covered with Psoriasis, drugs were no longer working, and I was essentially incapacitated from the inflammation. MSCs are not a cure, but they are a very effective maintenance treatment as it both repairs and activates the immune system to get it back on track to functioning normally. when that has been achieved, you recover. Your immune system has a record of all pathogens it has encountered over your life time, but some pathogens are very highly similar to healthy tissue and cannot be distinguished - hence why the body attacks itself. When stem cells are infused from another donor, those stem cells don't have the history to confuse them. Kind of like when you see relatives during the holidays every year. You notice how much the kids have grown, but the families don't because they're around them every day. Infused stem cells more clearly see the problems and correct them so the body behaves normally. this only lasts as long as the infused stem cells live within the body - typically 6-9 months, but some of the repaired stem cells will carry on with those corrections thereby reducing the severity of your Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis long term. Unfortunately, you must go outside the USA to get this treatment as the George Bush administration banned the procedure in a throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bath-water overreaction to embryonic and fetal stem cell research which went awry in the 1990's. MSCs are not embryonic/fetal stem cells and do not suffer those problems. They are 'adult' stem cells and have long been proven safe without any adverse side effects reported in over 25 years of treatments around the world. MSCs do not come from embryos or require abortions to harvest. MSCs are found in all tissue from birth onwards, and most often are derived from the waste tissue (placenta, amniotic sac, umbilical cord, ...) of a healthy live birth because the youngest tissue is the most potent (and accessible).
    4) Drugs do not solve all problems, and in many cases create new problems with side effects worse than the condition they're supposed to treat. Some really expensive biologics like Stelara are only 60% effective. That means the other 40% offers no benefit, or produces side effects. Biologics turn off the parts of the immune system that are involved in the symptoms. Problem is, those same parts are responsible for early detection of cancer in the body. Cancer is improper cell division, or other mutation of the cell. When it goes wrong, your immune system is designed to find and kill those cells to prevent them from multiplying and spreading. This occurs regularly as normal bodily function. When you take immunosuppressants, you are effectively deactivating your early detection system and relying on your doctor, or you, to detect cancer before it gets too late to do anything about it. Just because a drug is the latest greatest thing doesn't mean you should take it. Think really, really hard about how things play out if things go wrong. Do you trust your doctor to find your cancer? Do you trust you'll find it in time if the doctor doesn't? Can you afford treatment? Do you trust your insurance to cover your needs in the way you need them and not just the cheap route they'll push on you? Do you trust your government to not pull the rug out from under your feet on healthcare (such as Donald Trump's attempt to kill the Affordable Care Act in 2017 with no plan to replace it)? Not fun to think about, but really important as your safety net is not as reliable as you think it is. trust me on that. If you can solve a problem or reduce a symptom on your own with diet, exercise or other remedy - do that first. If and only if symptoms don't go away should you try the drugs.
    5) Most psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis can be brought under control with diet and exercise. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) is a good starting point. It's a science based diet designed around how food breaks down when digested in the body and which molecules are absorbed vs. those which are not and passed downstream to your intestines leading to fermentation and other issues. It's been around for decades and is described in the long time best seller "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" intended to treat Ulcerative Colitis, but is a good diet in general having been proven as such in many clinical trials. The premise of the diet is you should only eat foods you can absorb completely, which are often those that break down into monosaccharides (simplest sugars like glucose). Disaccharides and polysaccharides should be avoided as they are not absorbed and travel downstream to the large intestine which is not designed to digest food. There lies thousands of strains of bacteria living in a symbiotic relationship. when undigested food arrives, some strains will consume the food and start rapidly multiplying taking the gut out of symbiosis. this is fermentation and produces hydrogen sulfide and other gases which lead to bloating and irritation of the gut lining. If it continues for prolonged periods, it can lead to ulcerations and a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn's Disease. In short, if you eat a meal and end up gassy or bloated, that's what's happening. When you eat the right foods, you should not feel gas, bloat, tired, or food coma. Variations derived from the SCD include the GAPS diet, the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) and FODMAPS diet. The John A. Pagano Psoriasis healing diet addresses a subset of Psoriasis varieties. Unfortunately, the doctor passed away and nobody knows exactly which variants of the disease the diet addresses in particular (although some quacks will claim they do).
    6) the healthiness of your diet is inversely proportional to your club card savings. Grocery stores don't typically provide coupons for fresh produce, they provide coupons for manufactured foods with all kinds of additives. if it comes in a box or can I don't eat it. Not only has my health improved, but my food bill got significantly cheaper. Think of it this way: if processed food was good, why do they need to discount it to get people to buy it?
    7) Restaurant food is designed for pleasure, not health. If you order dessert at a restaurant, there's a 90% chance it was made by a 3rd party kitchen called Lowry's (spelling?). One slice of carrot cake will contain more than 2000 calories, and 85% saturated fat!!! But they'll advertise it as healthy because it has no added sugar. Don't believe me? next time you're in a chain restaurant, find the newest/naive/stupid waiter you can find and tell them you have a food allergy and request to see the food ingredients bible. They'll insist on you telling them what your problem is so they can simply tell you 'yes' or 'no' to keep this bible a secret, but be persistent and explain your situation is complicated. They'll eventually relent and show you the bible, which is a binder of information the restaurant is required by law to have on hand in case a customer with anaphylaxis or other very serious condition needs to verify the food doesn't contain ingredients, like peanuts, that could kill them from severe allergic reaction requiring immediate emergency medical treatment. The bible contains a complete breakdown of every ingredient of every food on the menu. How much, what type, how it digests in the body, etc.... You will be shocked to know almost every restaurant food - even salad - contains suspect ingredients. Why does Ketchup contain yeast? Why does steak sauce contain peanuts? Why do hamburgers contain rice starch? Hidden ingredients you're allergic to may be the reason why your health declines with consumption.

@@rheumatologistoncall Everything I wrote is from firsthand experience because the health care system doesn't provide accurate information, and they are largely driven by the pharmaceutical industry. For example, after I received a colonoscopy to confirm diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in 2012, my GI would only prescribe drugs to control my condition. They calmed the UC, but the UC would return after weening off the drugs forcing me to go back on the drugs. After several bouts of healing and flaring over the next few years, I asked my GI what I should eat to improve my baseline health. His exact words, "Diet has no effect on disease". This coming from a GI at a top rated hospital who graduated top of his class from USC. I called BS and looked at diet more closely, and that's how I found the SCD. Rush Hospital in Chicago ran a 3 year clinical trial with 200+ patients with all sorts of ailments and found an average of 30% improvement when following the SCD. some patients healed completely to be symptomless, while others only had mild improvements. The full clinical trial report can be found online. There are more than 25 ongoing clinical trials currently testing the SCD. In my case, I dropped 35 lbs over 10 months to heal completely while naturally bottoming out at proper weight for my height. My Cholesterol went from 204 down to 130, but more importantly my triglycerides went from 120 down to 61 as that's a marker for insulin resistance (triglycerides / HDL cholesterol = insulin resistance if > 2.0). At my next colonscopy in 2016 my GI was stunned I had zero signs/symptoms of UC anywhere and couldn't believe it was possible to heal from diet alone. After that I dropped him as my GI. Furthermore, in the days leading up to the colonoscopy, they give you a packet of information telling you what to eat, when to eat, when to drink the potassium solution to evacuate your colon, etc... Do you know what they put into that packet as recommended eating? Potatoes, pastas, white bread, and many other foods which are on the illegal food list of the SCD. In other words, the GI is contributing to your problems, not solving them. Long story short, all the benefits received from treating my UC also aided treatment of my Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis. In fact, when I was first diagnosed with all 3, I started to treat the Psoriatic Arthritis first as that was the most severely expressed of the 3, but that didn't produce any results after 18 months of treatment. It wasn't until the UC was brought under control with the SCD that I made any progress on the Psoriasis or Psoriatic Arthritis. Whenever I have flares, it's usually because I get lazy with my diet causing insulin resistance. Evidence that they are internal diseases, not skin diseases. That's why water, SCD, and other dietary measures are very important.
If there is any moral to the story, it's that the standard of care is only a single viewpoint on the subject, and there is no rule that say's they have the solution. In many cases they do have A solution, but there is also no rule that says their solution is the best solution for a given problem. Another problem is they are blind to other forms of treatment outside of their discipline. Even when you bring proven information to their attention they refuse to acknowledge it. THAT is the biggest problem of all. I use that as my litmus test when searching for new doctors. If they refute what I know and have proven to be true, then they will not be my doctor.

"Eat healthy vegetables" then show bell peppers a fruit of a nightshade, probably not a good choice of b-roll footage.
