  • It was 50 years ago today April 8th, 1974, that one of the most iconic moments in sports history took place. Henry Aaron hit his 715th career home run surpassing Babe Ruth as Major League Baseball’s all-time homerun leader.
The images and sounds of Aaron’s historic home run still remain indelible a half-century later. Here is Bob Costas on 715, and the three broadcasters who were in Atlanta that night to call one of baseball’s most significant achievements.

Thank you Milo for gracing the broadcast booth. My childhood memories of you voicing the Astros games moments will be cherished.

Milo just had the fun pop to his voice. 70's he was on the SuperStation so I heard him many times.

Amazing calls all around. It’s also mind-boggling how Aaron never hit 50 HRs in a single season.

All three commentators call him Henry rather than his usual Hank.
    Very classy.

Never heard the Gowdy call until now. Of all of legendary broadcasting moments ie Jets upset the Colts in Super Bowl 3, the 1962 AFL Championship and numerous World Series, I get the feeling the moment Henry hit the HR, probably the only time on the air in HOF career, that Curt was on the verge of happy tears. 🥲
