    15:31 Zeppelin's we're built as passenger blimps, the closest similarity I can make is a Cruise Ship. They usually both carry/carried people of high class and of wealth. It was only during the First World War that they were used for military bombings. Of course they fell into obscurity after the Airplanes went into mass production.

    • @SAVikingSA
      @SAVikingSA 3 года назад +9

      Just to be more precise, planes were already in mass production. What did them in was the crashes of the Hindenberg and both of the US Navy's, souring them for reliable passenger service. They were like the negative version of the Concorde.

    Bombing was done visually back then so lights helped bombers navigate and find their targets. However, there is a case of it working in the opposite direction. A German city on the Swiss border intentionally kept their lights on so they would appear to be on the Swiss side of the border.

  • @LadyValkyri
    @LadyValkyri 3 года назад +4

    There were only about 5,000 tv sets in use in the US in 1942, but almost every household had a working radio. The reasons for blackout conditions was so that bombers above the cities would not be able to accurately get their bearings and drop bombs on targeted buildings, bridges, airfields, etc... If they saw city lights they could easily figure out where the targets were in relation to the city and shorelines. Hugs!

    No TV until the 50 s for general population. There was radio which was major....home phone service was getting better but still a matter of shared lines. Passenger air travel was only available for a few years by 1942.

    Zeppelins were generally used for reconnaissance. The U.S. Navy tinkered with them for a bit - the U.S.S. Akron and U.S.S. Macon could each carry up to 5 aircraft as scouts, and potentially offensive and protective purposes. Both ships were lost in crashes - the Akron from weather and the Macon from structural issues, pretry much ending the program, IIRC. Zeppelins were a bit slow & vulnerable to be effective for direct offensive operations, tho.

  • @alexwisz9527

    Zeppelins were used for commercial and army use. in the army they were used for mostly scouting and reconnaissance and a little bit of bombing that's basically it. a famous Zeppelin would be the Hindenburg. zeppelins were quiet because they just floated, making them good for commercial and military use and yes they basically are a balloon it's actually 18 different sacks of like helium or hydrogen that they inflate and deflate to go up and down and there's like a crew compartment below the ballin part.

    Television sets were commercially available in 1928 and WRGB became the world's first television station in July of 1928 broadcasting from the General Electric facilities in Schenectady, New York. However, TV sets were quite expensive. In 1940, RCA released its TRK 12 for sale at $600 per unit later reducing the price to $395. In 1940, the median income for a man was $956. Because of this, television audiences were made up of the affluent. That was for the entire year. When WW II broke out, production of television sets was banned and production of the primary component of televisions at the time, the cathode ray tube, was diverted to military use. Television didn't really take off until 1950 when the average worker could afford to buy one.

    There were numerous military, civilians, and press there witnessing it after the initial firing started, and no mention of anything paranormal. In fact, most say they didnt see anything at all. Very likely just the weather balloon everyone knew about at the time. However, the Japanese were known to have used long range seaplanes, and submarine launched aircraft, and later balloons with fire bombs. Its also entirely possible it was a recon aircraft that got too close to shore and then fled when the shooting started. The shore gunners were excited and inexperienced and just got carried away with the smoke and explosions.
