  • Buying a used car? Feeling like Sherlock Holmes, scrutinising every inch of the exterior? Great work, detective! But hold on, there's a whole mystery still locked away.
It Could Break Your Bank if You Buy a Used Car with a Blown Engine!
Say goodbye to the ambiguity surrounding engine and gearbox conditions when purchasing a used vehicle. Let MotorCheckUp be your reliable guide, offering a quick and reliable assessment that empowers you to make the right choices in the world of automotive assessments. MotorCheckUp is a technology designed to transform the way we understand and assess vehicle conditions.
    What it solves?
Buying a used vehicle comes with inherent risks, especially when it comes to the unknown condition of critical components like the engine and gearbox. Traditional OBD2 diagnostic tests provide limited information, leaving a significant gap in understanding the internal health of these vital parts.
    How?
By analyzing just one drop of fluid from the engine, gearbox, power steering, or brakes, it acts as a "Blood Test" for your vehicle. This breakthrough allows for a quick and accurate assessment of the internal condition, offering a level of insight never before possible.

It will look for physical wear like metal particles, which is an indication of wear on the cylinder walls, bearings, pistons, crank shaft or rods, and even the turbo bearings if the car has one, but what it won’t tell you if there are any sensor failures or other issues such as ignition related, fuel delivery related, or even exhaust. Worth also taking a cheap OBD2 (OnBoard Diagnostic) reader and plugging it in to see if there are any DTC codes being stored in the ECU (computer). This would give you an indication whether there are any issues that need further looking into. Not all issues will illuminate the check engine light, some codes may be intermittent and get stored but not trigger the light. There are also the physical aspects to check such as condition of the bushes, suspension shock leaks and general health of the brakes, like how much health is left in the discs and pads. A test drive is also useful to ensure there are no weird sounds coming from any of the components and the car drive straight and true. One tip also to check the brakes are working is to find a flat and straight piece of road and carry out and emergency stop with almost no touching of the steering wheel from about 50-60KPH. If the brakes are good the car will come to a steady stop in a straight line, if there is an issue it will pull the steering wheel to one side and this means there is a problem. Hope these extra tips will help someone out on here 🙏

One thing I did was to get the car inspected by 3rd party car mechanics and the one I choose gave me an in depth report with odb2 reading and also checked the breaks, tyre for wears and tears from that they know if the alignment out or other parts is worn that cause the car to wear more on one side which will cause you money to repair. They also check the car for accident by using feeler gauge to go through the car body gaps and the same gauge should go through for the whole body panel gaps if not then car may have been involved in accident before. They also check for flooded cars by removing the rubber of body panels ,carpets, pull seatbelts till the end and other stuff. Was worth the money spent cause I know I am getting an ok car and I also know what to expect if I am going to purchase the car. Do this after you pay the dp because then only the car is partially yours but before you sign the agreement cause if anything you can still back out from the deal rather that being stuck with a metal junk. I got my car from mytukar and I got verbal consent from the agent that I will be bringing my own mechanic to check the car and he was ok with it and even mytukar was ok with it, I know mytukar which claim they have checked everything before they purchased the car but no harm in checking again right for our peace of mind.

What happens if the seller changes the oil before selling ? The oil is fresh, does it skew the analysis? How long should the engine oil be running to give representative data of the actual engine condition? Thanks.

So once you change the engine oil, let the car runs in for few days then do the test. The condition of the oil will come with good scoring but if the car has problem such as soot, water and fuel content, it will still show the result accordingly cause changing new oil doesn't mean that the whole result will be good.
