Interesting! I have some 3478A's, with the same display issues. In my lab, with my eyes, and my lights, I've never had a problem with it. There are lots of people who share your perspective, though, so... carry on!
But II'll say... I kept looking at the display screen, and noticing a lot of wide open space, and then seeing your interface that flipped screens to change parameters. As an impartial critic (!), I think I'd prefer mode buttons and 456 buttons accessible always, single-touch, if there's room to put them on there. Or an option, at least! But then again, I'm not a touch-screen fan; I actually like those old-school buttons! But the display itself... obviously a drastic improvement in visibility. I don't know. It's UI, right? I think you'll have to live with it for a while to see what you like and what you don't!

Yes, I like actual buttons too, but it does have a touchscreen, so they're really just not needed. Common functions can be just two touches, which should be bearable. Also, there is the extra holes to be cut, and need for more I/O pins. Despite that, I may add some anyway. And I'm probably going to move the whole meter into a new box, just for extra craziness!

Nah, waste of effort. I would understand if LCD died or smth but this frankenstein with barbie head is pointless. Cant see here tangible benefits. As well, this table where everything is fixed on is like a wheelchair for a person which can walk. I might consider backlight mod for my 3478A one day but this face transplant is a no go.

Wow! I get that you don't like my idea, and don't see any value in it. Not sure how that warrants the insults and the mockery, but to each his own.
Maybe you didn't understand that it's a prototype development rig, being used to demonstrate a concept.
Nonetheless, despite not receiving your seal of approval, I will proceed with the project, and show the result when I finally get around to completing it. Maybe you'll like that a little better...

I didnt told I dont like your idea, I told I would not do the same even if I had enough brains. In this world everyone does what he wants and especially on youtube. IMHO, LCD on the 3478A is indeed not super contrast but simple backlight mod would do. Back in the day this LCD was top notch tech and Internet was not existing yet. Still, device works 50 years later. I have doubts this fancy touch screen will not fade away or break in 6 months cus planned obscolescence. In short, looking forward for finished product. Subscribed.

@@mikedfgfj Fair point about possible early failure of the cheap display. I haven't seen any reports of these failing, so I hope it lasts - we shall see. The idea is also intended to add value by providing more features than the original display. Thanks for subscribing, though it might be a while before there's an update on this.
