- Triple Black 1967 Ford Mustang GT K-Code Convertible Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #162
There are many "1 of 1" cars in the Brothers Collection, including this very special 1967 Ford Mustang featuring a triple black color scheme and a 271 horsepower K-code 289 V8 under the hood. Although there were 50 K-code convertibles built, this might be the only one with the black deluxe interior and a black exterior and top. At any rate, we dig it, and are happy to share it as our Muscle Car Of The Week!

GOURGOUS CAR !!!!, I"m More Big Blocks, As For Small Block, This Car Deffintly Top Of List !!!! Stay Strong....Peace..
I restored this beautiful car over 4 years. This one of one car has the original drive train and was the nicest Mustang I have done and I've done hundreds of car. It was the real deal. BTW, you are right the left taillight was wired in error, but I didn't notice it until they were driving it up on the auction block at 10pm at night.
Tim Shanahan: You knocked this one out of the park. BEAUTIFUL !!!
Wow, you done an excellent job my friend!! Do you have a website or anything? I may need a Mustang restored.
Love the paint and that red stripe accent. Thanks for all the info. I never knew there was that much change between the 65-66 and 67-68 models. The lookup on the VIN is so important these days with at the swap outs and cloning people do. Believe it or not I talked to a young lady yesterday who bought a much newer car (I think it was a 2013 Nissan) that she shelled out and extra 5000$ simple because a unethical dealer had glued a LX or LE (I can't remember which) model badge on the back!! Luckily when people went to register their cars at the DMV (the dealer did this with multiple cars) and the vin's didn't match the model the buyer thought they had purchase the guy was busted and had to pay back a good bit of money and got some other legal action against him as well. Just goes to show always check that vin!
In the 60's we grew up in the era that defined what automotive beauty, performance, cool, and bad-ass means...to this day. Today, in a time when a manual transmission is considered old school, this timeless classic stands above the modern muscle cars, which could easily out perform it. This mustang is a member in standing of the Timeless Pantheon of Performance Cars as an original and one of the most beautiful cars ever made. If there is a heaven for car people, and assuming God still likes me, then this Mustang, and maybe the green Shelby, and one of the Brothers GTO's, Oh, and the green AAR Cuda, and maybe the white and blue Trans Am, and a Camaro SS, and a blue Cobra 289, and a '67 427 Vette... and more than a few others will be waiting for me... and everyone else who loves them. MuscleCarOfTheWeek please keep on keepin' on... with many thanks for your excellent work in preserving and showing these spectacular cars.
Most beautiful car
Carroll Shelby said the 289 Hi-Po was his favorite engine!
I had a 67 Cougar that installed a 271 HP 289 into that was slightly modified and i beat the piss out of it shifting between 6500 and 7000 rpm without ever a complaint. I maintained it well however and sold it to someone who also beat on it. The larger engines would have never taken the abuse that one did.
Beautiful Mustang
Even in CarCrazy CALIFORNIA. . it was extremely rare spotting convertible Mustangs in that era.... Plenty of MGs.. Sunbeams even Jaguars, even MBZ 190 convertibles..
My father used to talk about his 64 1/2 mustang convertible with a 289 k-code. Said it was his favorite car. Unfortunately 2 telephone poles and 11 guardrail posts sent it to car heaven, thankfully my dad and uncle survived.
Another thing to note about the 1967 Mustang K codes, you could order a 390 for less money, that`s why not many of the K codes were made in 1967
Ford introduced the 351 later on for the same reason the car was getting heavier and it was easier and less expensive to increase the displacement to get more horsepower with less weight than the FE 390.
A sexy looking stead!
Love love love your show... I just found a gold mine I'm a Mustang man and I love small block 289 the 302 I love the other ones too but to me it's almost like a salad each one has its beauty power speed... Oh... And that beautiful sound of a 289 or 302
"14" wheels" Whoa...step back Jack.
Absolutely love it!!😍😍
As a former Ford guy I was always puzzled as to why Ford didn’t put the 289/271 in more Mustangs (and Falcons, Comets, Cougars, etc). Chevy made a lot more cars with hot engines.
People couldnt afford it back in the day. back when that Mustang was built. wages were around 200-400 a month.
Very nice 👍👌😀
hermoso mustang
I love a small block Hi po Stang! It sings a sweet song!
You guys should review the 1958 Mercury Super Marauder, if they have one. It had the best power to weight ratio of 1958.
Nice one!😁🔧
I'll bet Doug DeMuro would love the access to this garage you guys have!
He doesn’t review vintage cars
Speaking of Ford cars a 68' or any first Generation Cougar would be cool.
check out videos 37, 59, 101 and 110 for cougars, heaps more cool old Fords in the playlist too
Sublime auto .!!!!
Sheeeeeeeeesh
Nice machine!
I want to buy this one.
looks like this car has some tail light issues preferably brake lights, your right brake light is way brighter than the left one
My guess is the high side/low side of the lamp socket was wired incorrectly. There are always details that need sorting out after resto. What I noticed is that the rear ride height looks a bit high. Maybe the suspension just needs to settle? If the "14" on the odometer means 14 miles since restoration then it probably needs some more 'shake down' miles to get everything sorted
more of a gm guy but this car is pretty awesome
Thank you, oh thank you, for not only saying "VIN" instead of "VIN number", but also consistently saying "RPM" instead of "RPMs". Call me a grammar Nazi, but such things get under my skin and are, to me, distracting. Way cool car, too. Rare, balanced, still easily recognized but with some unique details. Keep the videos coming, Mr Oeste!!
Do you guys know anything about a "special induction system". Saw that option on a window sticker on an original k code that someone has a blog on.
Another mustang. Well, at least it's my favorite color and one of my favorite model years. I'd rather see it with a big block, but the 289s were alright. I gotta say though, the mustang wasn't the only car ford ever built. Do they have some fairlanes or thunderbirds?
they've done a heap of nice big block Galaxie videos, probably more than they have Mustangs
Na, far more mustangs in general, about the same big block galaxies as 'stangs. I think there has been one fairlane featured, but I don't recall any t-birds.
i'd like to see a few T Birds too but a few people round here slaughter them every time they do something which isn't technically a muscle car
I'm talking early t-birds, 55-57 when they were 2 seaters, still not really muscle cars, but ford sold millions of them, so lots of collectors have them. Besides that was just one example. They have made about 12 mustang vids, maybe 1 fairlane, 1 or 2 torinos, and 1 or 2 cougars. And what about the mustangs predecessor, the falcon?
Yeah i'd love to see a Falcon or two on here, the aussie ones are the hot ones though apart from the 70 429 Falcon which was really a stripped down Torino with different badges
Still great for a V6!
What V6?????
V6? Say what?!
What year did the Mustangs get the 428 & 429?
+steve holsten I think the 429 was 1969, but I'm not entirely sure.
Steve: The 428 came out mid year 1968, and the 429 came in 1969 as a Boss, in 1971 the 428 and Boss 429 were gone, replaced by the 429 Cobra Jet.
Thanks for both of you guys info!
Let's see these "modern day muscle cars" beat a 67 GT 500 with a 427 medium riser big block and 4speed!🔧😁😄
270 HP? Am I missing something? What's the big deal?
the 289 K Code was the powerful high performance V8 that was the Base engine for the GT350. 271 Horsepower was seriously high for 1965, but as the normal engine for the GT, the 289 A code 4V with 250 was no Slough either. Ford introduced the S code 6.2 390 V8 Big block in 1967, and Horsepower and price comparison, the 289 K Code was obsolete. Ford made the 289 until March 1968, before they replaced it with the J code 302 4V Cobra Engine.
My 2012 Impala has a 306 HP V6. I guess We have come a ways.
I've always wished Ford would bring back the 289 for a couple of years or offer it as a crate engine!
+Johnny Yum wow your car that's 45 years newer has more power. Who would have thought am I right?
If you compare Ford's 289 Hot small V8 to Chevy's 283 @ 220 horsepower and Dodge's 273 @ 235 horsepower then 271 horsepower is a lot for a tiny V8. In the base Shelby this little V8 was bumped up to 306 horsepower.........We are not even comparing big blocks to these little screamers.
