  • In mid-July I set off from Yelvertoft to head for the Market Harborough Arm, which entailed me passing through Husbands Bosworth Tunnel and Foxton Locks, which comprises two staircase flights of 5 locks each. In this episode, I pass through the tunnel and cruise to Bridge 50 on the Leicester Arm, which is close to Theddingworth and just over an hour away from the Locks, which I reach the next day. I have a special reason for this trip, find out why!

    Such a great channel, it is like boating with an old friend. So peaceful and tranquil. All strength to you and long may you continue to share your wanderings.

      That's very kind of you to say Brian, thank you so much. I hope you'll have a good look around the channel, as this episode was made four years ago. Some cruises and topics are arranged in playlists, I cover boating, repairs both boat and canal related and heritage topics. All the best.

    Weather reports, in the US they are 50/50 correct and incorrect also😊 glad you caught the elusive heron on video . We live on a lake and there was one roosting in a tree in my front yard beside our driveway 😳 First time I ever saw one do that. Another great vlog- thank you Alan

      Many thanks Debbie. You were fortunate to see that Heron roosting. The weather apps are not very reliable but sometimes they’re spot on and give an indicator of what to expect. Cheers

    That's a lovely area you are in I've done loads of walks around there. The water levels around Shardlow at the moment are all over the place so I can't get my boat out. I went to the Mon and Brec on Tuesday and hired a boat. That is a lovely canal as it takes you into the Brecon beacons. Looking forward to Foxton Locks. Cheers Alan.

      Cabin Cruiser Adventure I can imagine the difficulties at the moment with water levels, especially after the last few days. Nice though to have a trip on the Mon and Brec. I love Wales particularly Snowdonia. Cheers

    Enjoyed the trip thank you. I love the weeping willow. It must be lovely meeting the people on your channel. I hope you are ok with all this rain and not been washed up on the bank. Pretty awful conditions at the moment. Wishing you all the best :)

      Thank you Linda. I do enjoy meeting people that watch the channel, makes it all the more worthwhile. Had a lot of rain recently but I’m secure in the Marina. Best wishes Alan

    More boat interior shots I would like to see inside If it's ok.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  4 года назад

      Hi David. I do film inside the boat occasionally. I don’t find it easy as there’s a lot of glare from the windows. As I’m alone, it also takes time setting up the camera and getting the lighting right. I am planning a video on xx things I like about my boat, so that will include interior shots. Cheers

    Hi Alan nice vlog.
    I spotted several trees down in the canal.
    Why is the CRT not sending a work team out to clear them ?

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  4 года назад

      Hi David. I believe contractors have been used for cutting back on this length of canal and that sort of work tends to be done out of season both boating and nesting wise. I am involved as a volunteer with offside vegetation cutting on the North Oxford. Few volunteers were about in October but it should get busier now we’re in November. It’s a mammoth task and more help is needed.

      Hi Ahmed.A lot has changed since this was filmed. I couldn’t use a microphone, as there was nowhere to plug it into the camera. I now use a different camera and have made efforts to silence the engine, so it’s not the problem it was. Cheers

    I’ve just noticed you don’t have solar. I’m curious if you plan to install any? I know it doesn’t help as much on cloudy days but it still extends the time between having to run your engine to charge your batteries. Especially if you have LED lights and only power on your inverter when needed.
    My Travel Trailer has about 20 watts of solar and two 6volt golf cart batteries for the house bank. Run in series for 12 volts. I can run for days with no inverter use before I have to think about charging.

      Hi Jeremy. It’s in the back of my mind. I’m not keen on rigid panels, so would prefer flexible. As a sole boater, sometimes clambering over the roof, there are already a number of trip hazards, so I’m not wanting to add any more hence the dithering.

    • @jeremykamel9655
      @jeremykamel9655 4 года назад

      My Narrowboat Venture I can see that. Pros and cons to both for sure. Ridged can be adjusted to more optimal angles to the sun for higher output but are obstacles as you have pointed out.
      Cheers

    Another immensely enjoyable video Alan, you manage to make them both very relaxing to watch and yet informative at the same time, quite an accomplishment...! I’m intrigued, if it’s not a discourteous question...do you live aboard your boat, or do you leave it in the marina and visit whenever possible..? We are planning our cruise for spring 2020, and I think a trip through to Foxton locks and beyond is very much on the cards. We would love to continue on to the River Soar and up to the T & M, but as novices I’m not sure if that is a good idea...! Very much looking forward to part 2....🍷🍷

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Steve. I’m classed as a high user and effectively live aboard though spend time off the boat. I’m planning to head onto the River Soar next year. Like you I’ve held back going on rivers but have the impression that when not in flood the Soar is less problematic than some. So will give it a go. I’ve been researching the use of an anchor, as boaters give conflicting advice and the CRT boaters handbook seems to be silent on that aspect. Cheers

      I've been watching David on CTC, and although he had a friend as a guide, the stretch up to the Trent and Mersey didn't look as scary as I thought, so I may be tempted to give it a go in March / April... maybe we should go in convoy..! Many thanks.. 🍷🍷

      I recall watching David’s video on the Soar, some while back now but don’t recall him having anyone with him on the boat. Was he following someone? Foxton Locks will be closed until mid March for repairs, so bear that in mind with your planning.😁

    • @stevehoare6378
      @stevehoare6378 4 года назад

      Yes, he was following a couple on another boat who were very experienced on the Soar. Cheers for the heads up..🍷🍷

    Would you mind telling me how much it costs in your Marina

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  4 года назад

      Hi Kathleen. It’s best if you apply to the Marina, as I don’t have a current tariff and rates vary depending on whether paid monthly, quarterly or annually; level of usage; and whether services are required. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
