I made this dish today. It was lovely. My husband gave me 12 out of 10 and said it was restaurant quality! Just to say everything we have made so far from your Dinner book and RUclips has been exceptional. Thank you.
Isn't it funny how us blokes go through life doing egg and bacon or letting the wife do all the cooking, then when we start getting old we really begin to like cooking and actually look forward to it.
@@Christophers-Assorted-Stuff My dad was one of the last few who had to do national service in the UK. Army taught him cooking, cleaning, sewing. He signed up twice. I’ve made this a few times it’s my new go to and my family love it. It’s so good I’ve made it for company too! And I’m not a fish person so that’s high praise from me! I do add a little bacon which I cook in the pan before the roux, I like the saltiness it adds. And I add a mirepoix to get some veggies in there.
It's the simple & homely presentation of the little video that is so welcome. Concise, containing no arty farty jargon - nothing to discourage or intimidate less confident "chefs". Well done & thanks. 😊
I can’t believe all the criticisms. She made it, you make it your own or move on. I never had it but it gave me an idea about a dish to make MY WAY.. thank you
I use cod and smoked haddock which gives a smokiness to it. I always make too much sauce just in case. My tip, after you pour the sauce and mix, I then put a layer of raw spinach over which stops the potato melting into the sauce.
@@EhsanMusic So, green onions, parsley, coriander, tomatoes, all types of peppers and so many other types of seasonings grow in our backyards. We always season our food very well with fresh, green vegetables.
Because I was born in Basque Province, I'm familiar with Cod. Now that I live in California, I'm familiar with Salmon. And adding Prawns to the casserole makes for a fabulous trio. Adding aged cheddar and double cream makes the casserole a winner. Thank you for your brief and easy to follow video. My wife says she will substitute with white cauliflower mash with olive oil added. We're on a lower carbon menu. Thanks again. We understand your dedication.
This is very similair to my recipe too, using a mix of salmon , prawns and naturally smoked white fish adds a extra dimension to it. I tried a slightly different version using a mix of potato and sweet potato mash and not smoked fish, and a slightly curried sauce for the fish , I poached it in some stock plus some /curry powder, chilli and spices (not too much) then added some crème fraisce. I though it might be crap but it was really good served with some green beans.
Hi from Romania! Thank you so much for this recipe, we have just finished eating this and it was delicious. I also added some smoked mackerel and followed the rest of the recipe to the letter. It reminds me of our fantastic vacation in Britain... long gone in the Covid era...Great job!
I absolutely love you for this recipe. I moved away from the UK a long time ago and this brought a taste of home to my Finnish child who absolutely went crazy over this dish! Thank you so much

I’m guessing you’re American... we don’t over season our food, preferring to let the flavours of the fish and other ingredients speak for themselves... unless you actually tried the dish the way it was made , you should. not make a comment about it’s lack of seasoning..!!
I recommend putting dill, parsley, a bit of mustard and garlic in the roux sauce. The flavour will compliment the fish and mash very well. This recipe is missing some key flavour notes to balance everything out.

Thank you so much for this it was super easy to follow. My husband has an allergy to a lot of herbs like sage and dill so it’s nice to have a recipe that tastes great without them ❤
Hi, I just want to say that your recipes are really amazing. I made your meat stew and it was the best ever. I will make this one too and I can already tell it's going to be fantastic. Thank you.
Hello from Germany! I'll make this for my fiancé - he loves anything fish and shrimp, and potatos too. I think he'll love it ❤️ loved the video, thanks!
If I can offer a small tip - rather than make a plain white sauce, turn it into a Bechamel. Into the milk, a couple of hours or more before you will want to use it, add an onion, peeled, and halved. Stick about 6 cloves into the onion, and put in the milk with a couple of Bay Leaves, and 6 - 10 black pepper corns. Bring to a simmer, for 5 mins or so, then put aside to cool and absorb. The herb flavours enrich the final produce enormously. Most do not use them in the final sauce, but remover before adding the flavoured milk to the roux. However, I leave them through the entire process, removing when the pie is put together, to get maximum flavour addition.
