Seriously enlightening. Can't believe this is free :) Keeping that shaft as close to ground parallel for as long as possible promotes so many good things, a very nice lag, mandatory body turn to complete release, proper path, correct torso bend at contact. Wow. Great stuff.
This 68 year old former semipro baseball player discovered this move so much later than i would've liked. Baseball background was both a blessing and a curse. Spent many years trying to sync my baseball and golf swings together. Some success, but limited. Then a light bulb went off one day when playing with grandkids. The golf swing is not a baseball swing but rather a baseball throw! Specifically a shortstop turning a 6-4-3 double play. I went from a mid teens handicap to scratch with this simple thought process. In a matter of months. And never looked back. I've since learned that apparently Mr. Hogan even made this same exact comparison! He said the swing is just like turning a double play from SS.
Players of old did this, not all of them but a lot and decades ago but they had trouble explaining or getting the message to the students. Bobby jones said if you explain in words differently eventually the student will understand. This video and instruction should leave little doubt on a good sequence of motion. Ty for the video.
One of the biggest differences I noticed between my swing and those of tour pros was a lack of right side bend through impact, something I wasn’t doing because of how I was taught in the 1980s when starting - swing as if standing in a barrel, turning without touching the sides. When I isolated the side-bend action, first doing it at the top of the backswing, I immediately noticed how I was able to drop my hands and club down and forward in a circle created by that curving of spine and how that helped me to maintain extension in my trail hand and “lag” in the club deeper into the downswing, to the point where the club shaft returns to horizontal and parallel with the swing line. That’s the point I started compressing the ball and getting more distance and spin loft.
Side benefit of working down into impact is it encourages the right elbow and right wrist to maintain their bend. If you work down and throw the angles away, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Recently watched Tommy Fleetwood talking about his first downswing thought being his left hip turning behind.. Not sure if this is relevant to this video.... just an observation.
Yeah it’s interesting what great players feel and what they do. Have you seen how much lateral movement he has? it’s probably the most. Right up there with Schauffele. Around 20-25 cm lateral shift through the ball with the left hip

Head attached to body; “yes” drop due to lower body, legs, compressing and rotating to finish. Yes drop a reaction not a prime motion.
i’ll make sure i pass that onto everyone
They stole this from me.
👍👍👍👍😀
