Is This $280 Keyboard Actually Worth It?

  • If you take gaming seriously at all, you'll know that mechanical keyboards are the kings of PC peripherals.
The consistency, durability, and feel of a mechanical keyboard is simply unmatched by anything a standard membrane board could offer. But with so many options out there, finding the one that is best suited for your needs can be a complex and confusing journey.
Some of us want to get a more premium experience from a brand we trust without breaking the bank. But where do you draw the line between quality and cost?
Well, it seems like PC peripheral giant Corsair has the answer. Their K100 Air ultra thin, wireless mechanical keyboard is one of, if not the most expensive pre-built keyboards to date, with a shocking $280 price tag.
But why? Why the hell is this pre-built more expensive than some customs? Is its low profile design the next big thing? What features does it have to justify the price tag? And is it even any good?

I feel like the only driving factor of this board is low profile, seeing how you can get better case materials/foam, switches, and layout for the same if not lower prices. The Nuphy Air 60/75 which do use more basic low profile switches (gateron red blue and brown) but cuts the cost down to just $110 just seems like a more reasonable way to get low profile. At $280 you could have bought the Killer65 or QK75 which group buys unfortunately just ended or if you want something in stock get the Keychron Q series.

I use the Keychron K5 SE with low profile optical switches and the biggest pet peeve has been how often I'd accidentally hit the Caps Lock key during a match, but it feels really nice to use with fast response. With the actuation point being really low and light the key presses can be, it can be very easy to press the wrong key, but the fatigue it reduces along with the sensation when you use it, may not be for everyone, but can be a welcome experience when you are using it for an extended period of time

Love my MacBook Pro mid-2012 and still going strong all these years later, had a Magic Keyboard for an iMac around that time too which was fab. Bought a Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Low Profile to try to achieve that same experience when I switched to PC but it's just awful, especially for the £170 price tag. I like a full keyboard, and I want the wireless not for the portability but so I'm not tripping over wires if I'm gaming from my bed or my couch. I feel like I'm firmly embedded in Corsair's iCue ecosystem at this point, (even though I much preferred Razer's Synapse software and I think their KBs and mice are as good as Corsair's) so this was pretty much the only option and the price didn't really factor into my decision, I just waited for an Amazon sale.

My only concern (as an owner of multiple chiclet keebs) is: gaming with chiclet keys (or something similar) tends to tire your fingers in a long session, and when the tension moment comes, hammering those keys would just makes it worst. Competitive gaming usually doesn't sit well with chiclets and the only interest left for me is how its NKRO actually delivers. I tried the Logitech G915.
The K100 Air is light years ahead in terms of quality, keyboard press (tactile feel), key lighting, connection, wireless range...
This keyboard is by far the BEST keyboard I've ever had. Any other wireless keyboards feel like pieces of shit after using this one. TRUST ME!

Confirm. Performance-wise, it is the very cream of the crop. My ONLY gripes are the secondary symbols not being shine-through, and ABS caps.

Is what way are secondary symbols not being shine0through on the K100 Air? I'm literally typing on this right now and I see the secondary buttons perfectly in the dark.@@VarjoPira

I think you miss the point because you don''t necessarily like low profile keyboards. I absolutely HATE those high profile keyboards, they even hurt my wrist and slow me down. I type extremely fast (according to friends and typeracer) and most of is due to the fact that a low profile lets my fingers drag across the keys I have to switch.

Tjhe K100 Air is a good keyboard. Got mine for $214,,, well worth the grip. Paired it up with a Dark Core. Good setup. I also have a Blackwidow V3 paired up with a Basilisk Ultimate and the poor Razer looks, feels and sounds like a Model A Ford with bad connecting rods,, green switches,,, lmao. It's in the box in backup duty. I do have a Deathstalker due in this week. But like all other Razer products the awful software puts them in the hole right off the bat.

Someone will by that keyboard, not me and likely not more that half of the comment section but someone will. Other than that, I can't say shit.

I think gaming market is over hyping the general mechanical tall switch scene. I personally want a thinkpad feel low profile. And thank the gods for this ulp cherry switch. Honestly if lenovo came out with thinkpad gaming keyboard wirh the exact switches they use on laptops i would throw whatever i have on ebay immediately. There isnt better feeling kb then a thinkpad when it comes to low pro.

I like low profile for typing, work stuff in general, but not for gaming. So for personal all around use tall keys are the way to go really.
As for this keyboard specifically i think it's too expensive for a workbench type o situation or on the office exploitation workhorse, too big to carry around too use with a table or whatever and for home the keys being slim not that prone for general purpose and kind of not that good for gaming while being wireless is kind o pointless. It's maybe too broad oriented to actually fit a role.
