This… This is THE game changer! I went differently in I bought the one without the casing, a 3 pin connector and a big plastic tool box. Everything fits inside when I don’t use it. Disassembly is easy even for big maintenance. Very good educational video Kevin 👍🏻

Great video Kevin, with your exhaust pointing up like that moisture will build up in the bottom of the exaust pipe and cause you problems, drill a small weep hole in the lowest part to let water out

Folks have mentioned this many times but we've had zero moisture buildup. 👍

I'm pretty buzzed right now (saved this and subscribed so I could watch again) but the biggest thing I can think about is how chill you are at explaining every step of the way without rushing or getting frustrated. It's really nice.
I tried asking my boyfriend a couple questions to further explain things and he just started getting louder the more questions I asked. It's unfortunately evident that people were either taught by a patient person that wanted to spread their knowledge or a person that wanted to explain their way without questions. I know this is pretty heavy for normal RUclips comments but this video reminded me to be extra grateful my dad was patient and slowly explained things until I understood instead of getting frustrated. I hope more men do it this way because I'll forever have a love of learning because of it.
Edit: I just enjoy learning to fix/maintain things I buy because over the years so many things aren't built to last. The money is the bare minimum for companies and hoping people replace instead of being able to fix. I seriously hope more videos do this in depth so we can all keep learning more 💗

I used to be a truck driver, the guy I drove for owned a small fleet of trucks with these in them. They were always breaking down, and the fleet mechanic had to fix them almost every run in the winters. I intend to obtain one for my wife and I's RV conversion, and this makes me feel better about being able to maintain one on my own. The ones on the fleet trucks were Wabasto units, but as evidenced by all the breakdowns, the fragility of the original brands was not much better than these Chinese units. Probably the only difference is literally only the quality of metal.

Coming from boat ownership I believe a difference between brands and “cheap” is also the electrical/circuitboard situation which is more “robust”.

As a mechanic in a truck shop I could tell you the biggest maintenance item on any of the Espar or Webasto units is the glow plug diffuser screen. They need to be ran at least once a month otherwise they get carbon buildup. I’m curious if these Chinese knock off versions have that or not.

I just bought a 5KW Vevor. These things are by all means "Cheap". Had several items that needed attention before first run. This weekend we are headed up to AL for 5 nights, maybe we will get to test it out! May need it here in FL in Jan. 🥶

It is colder weather now so I had to get going so I bought a premade setup, a nice wippro. Early on but happy with it. Now of course with me I would prefer some custom setup work and could have just bought the basic unit and set it up myself. And saved a little money. I want to run this straight off a diesel storage can for one thing. Even though this is in my shop messing around fueling it is kind of a pain.

Kevin does your glow plug have a screen around down inside the burner ? I didn’t notice it in the video or you making mention of it. Something for people to be aware of when it comes to maintaining.
As well people should check out the Afterburner a aftermarket control unit that has amazing control options and features.
In regards to those stripped out mounting studs, options are trying to seat studs with out the nuts possible some threads available deep inside. If that all fails why not use a thread repair kit?

I run mine for at least 30 minutes at full heat to dry out my bedding, tent material and clean the burn chamber as you mentioned. Don’t use mine as much as you, but good for 3years so far.. I made my own cabinet out of checker plate aluminum and it worked extremely well.

Kevin, an awesome review of the Diesel heater.
Now, I commented on a previous video regarding using a Polymer Laminate to be applied to the inside of the all the door glass
To minimize shattering and fragmenting of the glass. In turn, the laminate will hold the fractured glass. Adhering to the laminate.
Your thoughts as an adjunct to protect all occupants of the vehicle??? Cheers, Mate.

    skills you
    About the studs for mounting.
Can’t those be replaced with short bolts and the holes maybe re-threaded??

Hammer and dolly (hammer and a flat chunk of metal) the bracket that the unit mounts to. Holes are just distorted from being worked, should hammer back into shape, Id also add in some nice stainless washers to help as well. 25cent is much cheaper than a new box.

    • @LifestyleOverland
      @LifestyleOverland  7 месяцев назад

No hammer and dolly needed, you can bend it with your fingers. This enclosure isn't worth the time to shore up when it will just come apart again. I'd go with a Condition 1 case in the future and build it right.

    1. Нельзя выхлопную трубу направлять в небо. Только вниз, чтобы конденсат вытекал.
    2. При разборке необходимо проверить зазор между коричневой крыльчаткой турбины и корпусом. Должно быть 0.4мм

    Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the detailed video here.
I did have a question about the inlet at the back of the unit..
Is it something to be concerned about if the unit is running in wet weather, and rain/snow/moisture is drawn into there?
    Thanks

Is there any kind of sensor needed for the mobo to be mounted where it is? I am not doing the no battery backup like some as i worry about damage to the unit or that mobo if I lose power. But I wonder if remotely mounting the mobo would help to keep it alive.

This is the video I was looking for, thank you! I want to understand any equipment before I purchase it so I'm at least comfortable with maintaining it.
I am curious if there is a way to keep that one rubber seal you carefully took out, that was around the exhaust and air input pipes, in the best shape possible? I assume age, heat and cold would wear on rubber quickly. Is there an oil or something to keep it nice and rubbery isntead of dried brittle rubber?
This video is seriously amazing, thank you for taking the time to make it

    • @michaelholbrook4401
      @michaelholbrook4401 7 месяцев назад +1

A good way to maintain the rubber seal is, every spring, after use for the winter. Do this disassembly and use some type of rubber balm or conditioner (kinda like do the weather stripping on exterior trailer windows). This is also not a bad time to do a full breakdown and cleaning of the whole thing.

@michaelholbrook4401 Thank you so much for this. I had no idea there was a rubber balm but now I do and feel more secure in maintaining it when I purchase a diesel heater. I appreciate your help

Out of curiosity does this Chinese knock off versions have the mesh diffuser screen around the glow plug like the Espar and Webasto versions do? If it does, that is also a maintenance item that can cause ignition issues.
