Beautiful, soulful version of the brilliant Chris Rea’s sone. I first played this when I was in college radio when it was released in 1978 and then in a local commercial station. I have always loved this song, but until today, I never knew that he wrote it for his heartbroken little sister! You have another new follower… thank you!

Perhaps a melody can be changed, but there is a fine line between embellishment/improvisation and "changed" to the point of altering the feel of the music.
Bass lines can certainly be "wrong" if they do not follow the structure of the music. However, if they do follow and enhance the structure of the music, they may be different to what one may like, but certainly not "wrong".
In both instances, at least to my ancient ears, nothing in this performance sounded "wrong".
This is, after all, a cover of the song and interpretation is a requirement in order not to be boring. (IMHO)
