Yep, I wanna learn tennis but I’m really out of shape and I get winded easily and I’m too nervous to practice with another person so I’m excited to try this solo!
@intuitivetennis looking to install a backboard with concrete pad on my property. One of downsides of wall is that many shots end up not rebounding enough so the ball bounces twice or the person ends up hitting harder to compensate and loses rhythm and practicality. Does this handball court just bounce more because of the wall being concrete? Some companies sell curved boards to counter act this lack of bounce back/angle so considering . Any thoughts?
I still remember the day on which my grandmother brought an old wooden Dunlop tennis racket home which she got from a colleague of hers. It was in the 1980s and I was about 7 years old. It was the Steffi Graf/Boris Becker tennis era in Germany. I started to play against the wall over my grandparents' garage and immediately fell in love with this game. From then on I played against the wall in my grandparents' driveway every day right after school. And during the summer holidays I spent my whole day at the tennis club playing against other kids and adults and in between against the wall. Later, I unfortunately stopped playing tennis when I passed my Abitur and started university. About twenty years later in 2020 I started playing again. Now I play every morning before work for one hour against the wall in the tennis club. It brings back the same feeling of love for the game and carefree happiness which I had as a child. What I appreciate about your channel, Nick, besides your tremendous knowledge and competence as a coach, is that in many of your videos I can also feel this almost childlike love of the game. 🎾🎾❤
Patrick! My story is very similar to yours. I loved reading what you wrote. Rcently, after 25yrs away from playing tennis, I too returned to playing. I can't wipe the smile off my face whilst playing, I feel so much joy. I was contemplating the other day what exactly is it that brings me this joy when I am playing and I couldn't come to any answer. Your words have resonated, thank you.
Yep, this is what a pro looks like on the wall. Dang awesome! I wish I would have known about some of these drills 40 years ago when I would hit the wall all the time. I still hit the wall now and will definitely add these drill techniques when I practice.
The wall is my favorite practice partner. I devote 80% of my time hitting the wall. If and when an error is made while playing on the court, I go to the the wall to figure out what I did wrong and correct it. I like the volleys on your knees. I Can’t do the tweener though. Very good 5 minute video. Thanks 🙏
The way you showed so many practice shots really proves how a wall is good for working on any specific situation that you can encounter during a match.
Great stuff. I lived in Southwest Florida for many years and those walls were around everywhere. I love that you could go out anytime and be able to practice and get a great workout. Kudos to Nick for showing the value of hitting on the wall!
Excellent drills! I love practicing my overheads on the wall. Well, can you believe, I (2.5) played doubles yesterday and hit an overhead. All 3 other players looked at me like deers in headlights. 😆. I love the wall. The unbeatable wall. Thanks to you coach Nic. 👍
I played lacrosse in high school and i played wall ball all the time. It's a great way to practice solo and hone in the basics. I'm sure it works great for tennis too. Great video.
Great tips for me. I’m just getting back into the game now after 15 years. Will make use of the wall for sure. Thank you! The wall is where I started as a kid as well.
I have so many tennis family like me out there sadly I never got to meet you guys until now 😔 thank you for posting these reviews they continue to set a flame in my heart to keep playing on.
Loved the video and great timing. I was planning to practice against a wall tomorrow morning. Will definately incorporate these drills into what I had planned. Thanks
Probably your best video yet even if you’re not a hot girl. The problem is most tennis players look at the Wall as something they want to graduate from once they can carry out a reasonable rally with another person. Sort of a beginners purgatory never to be visited again. When doing drills like this I’ve been asked many times by strangers “What are you doing here hitting against the wall?” It’s like there’s a unspoken belief that only beginners hit against wall.
I incorporate practicing at the wall about once a week. Both for consistency, but especially for the work out. I don’t like running, and hitting the wall is my fitness routine
Great drill tips Coach Nick. I'm amazed that not many places public courts have walls to practice. Will these drills work on some of these concave walls?
We have telepathy! Just a few days ago I was wondering when you were going to do a video on wall practice. I recall you did something similar a few months/year ago. That video had voiceover
By far one of your best instructional videos. Sometimes the best tutorial is the demonstrated practical application; no audio explanations necessary. Just do it. Thank You! from someone who learned playing on a wall and continues to regularly train on it.
I will never understand why there are no tennis walls like this in Europe. Also no free courts, you always have to be a member of a club to play and to book a court and usually they are all booked out... Super jealous of tennis players in the US, you guys have it good 👍🏼
Great drills Nik! Will definitely try them out next time I go to a wall. Just have one question (I'm still a beginner, sorry), what's the benefit of doing volley drills with the non-dominant hand behind your back? What does that help with?
Hey Nik, I cannot thank you enough for all of the insanely good content you upload. I’ve been practicing on the walls of Padel courts for a while now, but since Padel courts are so small, I am having to use balls that are completely dead, do you think that it’s still good practice?
Man! This is gold! One question tho: I always try to move my feet when practicing volleys against the wall but you're totally grounded on these. What's the benefit of this approach? Should I also stay in one place on wall-volleys? Thanks!
@@IntuitiveTennis thanks, I rewatched the video but still haven't got the answer)) the thing I was referring to is the "squeaking shoes" aspect as you call it. Is it correct that I don't have to squeak on the volley as I have on the baseline shots?
@@golllaur it’s a great topic. Stationary volleys are different from ground strokes. The wall is different from the real court. I will revisit this in a video, so many factors come into play.
bend or streched right arm in double handed bachand in tennis for me is more comfortable to be bend. But my couch tells me that it must be streched.I need an advice
I love hitting off the wall. My only problem is that if I play a league match/tournament, and there is no wall, I usually play junk. I've become dependent lol.
Many thanks for the great video! would you prefer a wall or a ball machine like slinger? with slinger its less shots per hour but on the other hand there is a more realistic sensation of the court and more realistic timing and transcription of the ball. The wall balls are returning back too fast after the shot, but the balls return with no spin on them which creates a very unrealistic timing / trajectory. I love the wall workout but i have noticed that i need a good 30 mins on the court to restore the timing after the wall ☹️
Apart from the practice session, I’m also impressed by how flat the wall is. In my country, you won’t be able to find a wall as flat as this and the balls that you hit will be flying all over the place.
@@IntuitiveTennis but the 1hbh is the best ever and has the most advantages. Other than the fact that the 2hbh is used because it’s more difficult to master the 1hbh but just think, No one used a 2hfh so why use it only on the backhand If the forehand is one hand why not try the backhand one handed. I think the women’s game is suited for the 2hbh. But the men who use it have never started with the 1hbh or did not master it so they are forced to relent to the 2hbh.
Did you subscribe?
yes :D

As an avid wall user myself.... I can respect the level of skills on show here. Wall is hands down the best way to train tennis when on your own.

The aesthetics of the shot (camera shot) starting at 1:44 is chefs kiss
Probably youre best video to date. Which is saying something
I feel like this video took a lot of time and effort to make, appreciate it!
This is golden resource! Practicing the wall without your strategies sometimes is just waste of time, a lot of people didn't realize that.

It’s good but be careful with your arm. Don’t do it too long and if you feel something, stop
You’re an incredible player! You would have been Top 200 if you played on tour!
Tbh the wall is the best way to practice cause its impossible to miss and its good training
Nice. I have never ever seen one of these awesome walls and I live in Houston TX a big ass city. Maybe there is one at Westside which I can't afford.
I do this in a squash court 😅 as I don't have a wall in my club.
Squash, racquetball, garage you can practice tennis anywhere 💪💪
What ball do you use to these wall practice? Do you use slower ball with less pressure, or pressure-less ball, or real match balls?
Slightly used ball

How high is the line? Should be as high as net?
Yes

What ball do you use? You seem to hit the ball pretty hard with your FH and BH without it shooting back at you at uncontrollable speed?
Normal ball

They've been redoing the courts in charlotte, mainly to add pickleball lines i assume..., and they never put the backboard back up WTF
Sorry but I don't have a wall like this around where I live.
If i could build a small section in my yard with a wall I would. I have to resort to going to small school gyms.
Beati voi che avete tutte le attrezzature a disposizione qui da noi e una vera M..............
If that was on clay Nadal would beat the wall...
