- Sky News host Liz Storer has called for Australian breakdancer Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn to apologise to Australians for “embarrassing” the country on the world stage at the Olympics.
The breakdancer sat down with The Project after making world headlines following her poor performance at the Olympics in Paris.
“You deserve every single bit of it [criticism] - crocodile tears,” Ms Storer said.

She is correct if she said “was”. She is still living in the past when she won the 2022 Australian Breaking Champions and she is conveniently for getting that she finished 2nd in 2023 or that she hasn’t even competed in Australia in 2024.

Within the breakdancing association of Australia she is. The organisation only started in 2019 though and seems to just have the same group of people competing each time.

She meant in Australia. She is living in the past and those records show she was the best 2 years ago. In the 2023 Australian Breaking Championships she finished in 2nd and in 2024 she hasn’t competed in Australia at all.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) (A private Australian company) sent her to the games out of their own pockets just like they do for every other Australian Olympic competitor.
The AOC is not government funded. The AOC sources its revenues primarily through sponsorship, licensing, fundraising activities, grants from the International Olympic Committee and annual distributions from the Australian Olympic Foundation.
The total lack of education on this fact is why Australians are so angry because they (you) think you own Raygun or think Raygun owes you something.

she thought it was an arts event and not a sports event - ballroom background - ballroom federation ran the selection - didn't have anywhere near the upper body strength to compete in breaking...she threw out the sprinkler in competition. She should be ashamed of herself - trying to be 'cute' coz she wasn't up to the standard needed. Australian dancers are world renowned, most of the big celebs used aussie dancers on stage, and shes just tarnished it all with her free trip to Paris.

Oh the level of smugness on this one… was Narcissism an Olympic category introduced this year too? She'd easily break the scoreboard with this performance - def. a world record. You *cannot* ever convince a Narcissist that they are the problem. Isn't it clear in her interview and scoring a zero at the Olympics that she isn't fazed, isn’t remotely apologetic nor humble, and is now gaslighting us, the audience, into thinking *we’re* the problem. At least any other Olympian can recognize their failures and achievements more appropriately. I also highly doubt this woman trained anywhere near the levels of an Olympian let alone an athlete.
Yes, you CAN control how people react...by actually being good at what you do. That performance was just sad, unprofessional, amateurish and the whole mess should be investigated for fraud. There is NO WAY she was the best Australia had to offer. I remember Break Dancing from the 80's and I never, NEVER ONCE, saw anything as pitiful as that. You can't tell me that several decades later, it has "progressed" to what this woman did as an Olympic Athlete. There has to be some serious Conflict of Interest and outright Fraud in this whole situation.

Not 100% accurate. The IOC are censoring the videos that use Olympics Commercialised televised that RUclips content creators are using unlawfully for financial gain. If you don’t use the Olympic logo and Olympic commercial content in your video you are free to do as you wish.

I read somewhere that the hosting country gets to pick a one time new category, just for that Olympics. Australia asked for other things that were rejected, and “Breakdancing” was basically at the bottom of the list.
So no one really wanted it. But they had a slot to fill.
Anything can be an Olympic event. "Art" was a competitive Olympic event from 1912 to 1948.
@@JasonJrake The real story behind the inclusion of breaking at the Olympics. The discussion of having Dancing at the Olympics has been going on for 9+ years. The 2024 Paris Olympics wasn’t the first time Breaking was at an Olympic sanctioned event.
So I t wasn’t a last minute decision by the host country. The host country had no say in it, just like Australia had no say in who was selected. In fact IF one of the two New Zealand B-Girls that competed in the qualifier in Sydney had won there would not have been an Australian B-Girl at the Olympics.
Breaking had been included as an event at the Youth Olympics in 2018. After these games there were calls to have Ballroom Dancing at the Olympics by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) but the IOC didn’t want it because of the age gap. Ballroom dancing attracts a much older demographic of potential competitors and the Olympics is about getting the youth involved, this has always been their moto.
IOC president Thomas Bach stated that “breaking was added as part of an effort to draw more interest from young people in the Olympics.”
Then the IOC and WDSF created the rules for breaking that excluded people under the age of 15y6m from competing at the Olympics Breaking event. As the results showed the event instead attracted more attention of the exact age demographic that they didn’t want.

Dance sport, incredibly difficult, brilliant choreo, and more energy expenditure in a 4 minute Samba/ Rumba/ Jive or Paso Doble, than a 400 meter swim final. Choreographer here, dance sport is attracting a far younger audience than 10 years ago. The 10 year domination by Julia and Riccardo has had a flow on effect. Get rid of rubbish like trampoline, skateboard and breakdance and make room. It is needed for any future games to continue imo. I work at Igor and Bolshoi for 30 years…I know a little. Spasibo🙏🏼🇷🇺🇦🇺

And I agree with you when you say you shouldn’t compare two different forms of dancing especially one that only requires you do dance for 4 minutes compared to 10 minutes.
