SO glad you did a video on this plant. QUICK STORY: The Mr. & I were driving past a grocery store when the I saw an elephant ear sitting on the sidewalk. I actually did an 180 in my seat because I couldn't believe it. I live in NYC so its not a common sight. As we went through a few more traffic lights (about 3/4 mile) I couldn't contain myself. I asked him to turm around and go back. He smiled and whipped an illegal U. He said he saw my reaction and knew something was up. LOL I ran acrosss Broadway as fast as I could.. There were 3, and I wish I had the room to take all of them, so I inspected each and got the one I thought looked best. I spent $50 on a rather huge specimen. Its been one week and i've been dong a ton of research, but everyone talks about care for them OUTDOORS. So far i haven't killed her, I have a BOP i've had 10 months that has exploded to 9 feet so I know I can do it. Thank you for the info and make some follow up videos on repotting. its still in its nursery planter so I know ill need to upsize her very soon.
Absolutely beautiful! I bought mine at a Lowe’s it had 6 huge leaves and 3 were dropped to the ground. I asked for a discount and got it for $6.00 did I mention it was damn near 4 ft.
I just bought a 6 leafer from Kroger for $9.99 🤩🤩 definitely new fave plant. When i went outside to my car with it i was blown away by how beautiful it was in the sunlight 😲😲😍😍 thank you for the video! You’re fun 💚
New subscriber here!! I got an alocasia regal shield just now at lowes with a gift card and paid $4!! I sort of rescued it too... it looked chewed up. It was mislabeled as Alocasia California. So here I am... learning how to take care of my new babe. Thank you!!!!
I bought a big one today, maybe twice as full as yours, and they were like 12.99$. I was amazed. And they had a similar one, but dark veins, instead of green, and they were a little more bulbous shaped leaves, same price. It might be so cheap because of my location in Florida. I'm so excited to repot it and bring it inside. It has like 8 or so sprouts and I think bulbs, gonna separate some off for outside and another pot. Great video, thank you!
OMG!! I LOOVE UR VIDS!! THank U For Teaching me So much! I have 3 elephant Ears! All ur vids are interesting. Wow!! I paid a total of $380 for All 3 of my Babies!
I bought a small regal shield and it grew with leaps and bounds. It doubled up in size in about 2 months even during the autumn/winter months. It has been so easy to care for thus far and I can't wait to bring it outdoors into my garden next spring/summer! I expect very big things in its future! LOL! I'm not sure if you've ever seen the variegated elephant ear varieties but they are so stunning. I just got the variety alocasia odora/gageana and am in absolute love with it. If you haven't seen one yet you can visit my channel. I will be doing a video on them real soon. Thanks for sharing your video and I enjoyed seeing how you grow yours and how beautiful yours is growing. I am looking forward to seeing mine grow into a beautiful size!
Hi! I have a bunch of small tears on the leaves. As time goes by, will those tears increase in size and kill the leaf? What should I do? Also, does yours go dormant during the winter? Any advice is appreciated, I just barely bought mines 2 weeks ago and I want to keep it alive
what kind of fertilizer? Also, when using your moisture meter what is the ideal meter for it to be at (or what level does it reach for you to water it?)
I use worm castings when it’s in the growing season. I top dress it and and keep it way from the roots and the green stem so it won’t burn it. Then water the plant after I add the worm castings. So The fertilizer when water would get distribute into the soil and the plants to be able to take it up. So I find it easier to do it that way. I have not bought liquid fertilizer because I’m not sure how much to give it sizes sticks and a worm castings I feel like it’s more natural and more safer possibly.
My elephant ear plant grew progressively smaller leaves and is now growing flowers, not growing any new leaves, and not dropping any leaves. The stems are upright and the leaves are green. What is going on? How do I propagate my regal shield or get a bushier plant?
Will a good, dense, aeroid mix work with the regal? I just bought one and ive always had good luck with my other alocasia. But this regal is 4 ft tall. I can NOT screw this up
What do you mean by Cut Down? I’m a newbie and I just acquired one of these beautiful plant today. Also do you use tap water? Thanks for the knowledge transfer.
Awesome video. My regal shield LOVES humidity, worm castings, aquarium water from my fish tank and very bright light.

Thank you so much! The Regal Shield is defiantly a statement plant.
I also have mine in a eastern window and I was worried but I’m glad to see someone’s thriving in eastern window lighting
Thank you! You mentioned a moisture meter, I also have one but not sure what level it should be at to water?

I found mine at Home Depot as well.

Do they like to stay moist or let it dry out? What number on a moisture meter?
Heey you said cactus mix for the soil? Thank you!
Hey! Have your leaves ever gotten ripply and dry looking ?? Not sure why they get like that but maybe lack of humidity ??

Hi great video do u still have this plant?
Ha!! A desperate girlfriend. I love how you talk about your plants like they’re people!
Mine used to have really big leaves but he keeps kicking out small ones now that are like 1/4 the size. Any idea why?
Hi there! How many hours of light is your Alocasia recieving? Thank you!
U didn’t mention which fertilizer u use ?
Mine has some black oozy stuff coming some of the leaves? Is it a goner? What should I do? ☹️
I need to know what kind of water. I use Spring water to water my plants at room temperature. Is that ok? Or do I need distilled?
Can you propogate these are our these like the pollys?
Just got mines 2 days ago😍
my alocasia has formed a seed pod! in the dead of winter! what do i do with it?
How much humidity does this one need?
So how low do you let the moisture meter go? I feel like we kinda skipped that.. Or I missed it.
So I let the meter get between a 3 or 4 before I water.
@@plantlove5135 Ok, thats around what I was thinking. Thank you! 💚
