I have always loved this simple compact 35mm camera. It has been sitting in my "gadgets drawer" for decades. I took it out to check that it did not have a battery inside and discovered it had the original
"PHOTO" lithium battery that looked just like new. No corrosion on the battery but no charge left in it. I bought new rechargeable Li-ion batteries for it, installed one and the camera is fully functional. Still an amazing camera. I plan on having some fun shooting 35mm again with it soon. I didn't realize it sells for about $330.00 used in today's market.
Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever found corrosion on one of these Olympus clamshells cameras with c123 battery. They are built like tanks in that regard! Thanks for sharing! 🎉
Great video! Excited to try out mine :)
Yeah this is a sweet camera! Have fun!
@@TeddyJuras Hey Teddy, mine finally arrived, but I'm having issues getting correct focus, I can't really feel any noticeable difference between the half/full press when you are setting your focus. At 1:34 how can you tell from above that the focus is working correctly?
Thank you for this vídeo, really helpful!
Of course! Thanks for the kind words! Did you pick one of these up?
@@TeddyJurasI did! And your video was really helpful for me to start working with the camera!
@inesspinolacoucello6609 🎉have fun with the 📸
Great video! I recently got an mju-1 and shot a test roll to try the camera out. Everything in the camera works as it shoulds, except it does not rewind the film. Both when the roll ended and after I pressed the rewind button, I could hear the sound of the motor, but the film did not rewind. Is this at all something I could fix easily? What could possibly be broken? Or what's a way I could try to "fix" it at home?
Oh no! That’s not usually good news and not something I personally would try to fix. Sadly it’s common with this model. I’ve picked up a couple of these with this issue before. Sorry this happened! 👎
Hi! I have the Olympus Mju-1 which I believe is the same camera? I have a problem where the camera doesn't always seem to recognize when I open the clamshell to turn the camera on - completely fresh battery, no corrosion, but the most reliable way to get it to turn on is to open and close the back again as if changing the roll of film (which is impractical when out and about shooting). Sometimes the lens pops out when I open up the clamshell front, and sometimes it doesn't - it seems to have a mind of its own. Any suggestions for this?
Sounds like the sensor is on its way out maybe? Try blowing some compressed air under the clamshell to see if there might be obstruction. I’ve had little bearings pop out of these before and after that clamshell and camera is shot. Not a good sign and I don’t really have a fix for you. Let me know if you figure it out! 👍
I just got one off offerup, flash and everything works but when I put the new roll of film in it makes the noise like if it’s loading it but then the top says E everytime it never goes to a number
Oh no. These are notorious for bad film advances. Try wiping down any contacts inside film compartment with white vinegar. Might not be recognizing there is film inside. Otherwise hope you can return it! 😳
I only stumbled across the camera hustle. I know very little glad I found you. I just bought 5 cameras today and Im going to try and see if they work . I got Konica Auto s2, Zenit E , Pentina , Fujica V2 and agfa! wish me luck.
Very cool! Good luck! 🎉
Hi! Just got the camera! I have the right battery and film but when I don’t even have the film in it doesn’t say E it just says 0 and won’t even take a picture? Do you think you can help?
Very strange. Not sure why that’s happening. Do you have a junk roll of film to run through it to see if it takes in the film? Only thing I can think is it’s stuck thinking film is inside.
Hello sir, nice video. I was wondering if it was normal that the camera doesn’t fire w/o film in it? Everything works, lcd, timer, flash, loads and rewinds film. The shutter just will not fire unless it has film in it OR if the back is open.
I guess it’s fine, since it works and takes pictures but don’t like the fact that I paid $$$ for a camera that’s not 100%? I know this video is well over a year old, but any help would be appreciated!
No shutter should open without film in it. Try wiping down the silver tabs where you put in the film. Use white vinegar and a cotton swab. I wonder if it’s causing the camera to think there is a non DX film in there? Just a guess. Good luck! 👍
how do you know when the film is full? and also what is the rewind function for?
The film counter on top displays the number of shots taken. Would be 24 or 36 depending on the film you were using. Rewind is to rewind the film for whatever reason. Camera does auto rewind when full so you can just let camera do it for you. 👍
Hi i bought one of these and all looks and works fine except the film advance it makes a weird sound when advance for the next photo i mean it advances but with a strange sound i think in a rewind spool , i have two mju one sound great the others not (but works great) what can i do? It sound like a repetitive click sound
Hmmmmm not sure on that one. Sorry. I haven't come across that before. Enjoy those Mju's! 😎
I dont know why but when i got the flashlight on it doesent make a fingle flash like in the video but it litterally flickers and doesent shoot, do you know anything abt that?
I don’t know sorry. Perhaps it’s not getting a full boost from the battery. Try wiping battery contacts with a cotton swab and white vinegar. 👍
Hi, I just bought this camera, I noticed the flash and timer buttons are not very sensitive I have to press down hard or multiple times to get it to work. Is that normal?
No. Doesn’t sound good. Would return it if possible. Should be more responsive. 👎
my uncle just gave me an olympus mju zoom too today . I need new battery . It has a film in it and he opened the back. Is that film void now ? otherwise he wanted me to print up the pics.
Just the film that was exposed to light would be void. Might still be worth getting developed. 👍
Hello, can you help please? On my Olympus Mju i camera, when you take a photo, the lens comes out, but doesn’t go back in, no photos are taken. How to fix it? Some sea water hit him
Oh no! Doesn’t sound good. I’m not sure of a fix for that sorry.
Hello, does using a rechargeable battery on the mju i affect the performance of the camera?
it shouldn't. I believe rechargeable should be just fine.
Hello i got two that where gifted to me, everything worked great but now the flash doesnt seem to wanna engage. I think i accidentally bumped it ever so slightly but besides that i have no clue what could be wrong. Anyone got any clue?
No clue other than wiping the battery contact with white vinegar to see if it helps. Sometimes it’s not drawing enough power to flash. Good luck 📸
Hiiii. May I ask you how do I know that is on focus? Sorry for my bad english and thank you!
There isn’t a way to know the camera is in focus visually. Some of these film cameras have the “half press” ability or “prefocus” where you lightly press the shutter button to get focus and then fully press to take picture. I’m not sure if this camera has that. 📸
@@TeddyJuras Thanks a lot!
anyone know how to unjam film in this camera that is stuck? i tried to rewind the film but instead of the canister pulling the film, the canister was pulled toward the film and is not jammed in the camera. anyone have any ideas how to loosen the film up so i can rewind back into the canister?
Hmmmmm I’m not too sure on that one. Did you end up figuring it out?
@@TeddyJuras i appreciate the reply but after hours of tinkering, i figured it out! i would remove the battery pack and then reinsert and slightly wiggle/pull the film canister. i repeated this several times and was able to unwind it and then place the canister where it's actually supposed to be, then i pressed the rewind button and all is saved
@xMiiDNiTe nice work! 🎉
Why would I need to rewind? Is that to put the film back into the container after I used all my shots up?
Yes you got it. It goes back onto the cartridge and then you can give that to a camera shop to have it developed. You would ruin the film if it gets exposed to light so never open the back when you have film inside. Rewind it first. 👍
Hello I bought a camera similar to this. I put fresh battery and after couple days. Battery runs out? Why is that fast?
Not too sure. Sounds like maybe an issue with battery contacts or clamshell not closing properly? Does display go away when camera closed?
@@TeddyJuras Thank you for your response! So basically my theory is the flash eating out the battery, before I put the film. I was trying the flash for couple of times coz I need to see if the camera actually works. Then I took 11 shots with flash on mostly. I put another battery and it works just fine again, but its annoying that I paid a good amount for this camera and then the battery just died easily. I thought I can just bring it anywhere without removing and putting on the battery all the time. Mine was Olympus Mju. I guess it is the same as this. And yes I keep the camera closed that whole time
Of course! Have fun with your camera!
My camera makes noise when I open and close the film door without film in it. Is that normal?
It could be. This camera automatically loads film so it could just be searching for a roll of film every time you close door. 👍
Hi, I just dug up this camera in one of my storage units & my daughter went crazy for it. How can I set the date on this camera?
Yes 35mm film is making a comeback! I don’t have one of these so I’m not able to double check setting date. It might require a separate battery to do so. Nice find!
There is no date function on the MJU Infinity model.
Thanks for the clarification! 👍
Is it only film cameras that are great to sell? thankyou
No! About 3 months ago old digital cameras like canon elph etc have gone up in value. Influencers are using them to get the vintage look now and it’s pushed up the price! 👍
Can I go to Walgreens to have my film developed?
Yes you can. I believe they have to ship it out and from my understanding it’s not the most “Professional” film developing but they are convenient! 👍
What happens if you don’t get a number 1?? I ma freaking out tbh because I rolled it all the way and it closed but didn’t get a number 1
Uh oh that’s usually bad news Marian. These cameras are notorious for bad film advances. Take some white vinegar on a cotton swab and wipe the metal tabs where you put the film canister. Sometimes it’s not recognizing film is inside. Otherwise it might be bad news. Are you able to return it?
@@TeddyJuras Hi Teddy -- similar boat to myself. Bought one of these and it doesn't seem to want to load the film, just gives the E. How many times should I try to load the film before I give up and seek a return? Thanks! Really appreciated this video!
Pretty quick. If white vinegar doesn’t bring it back to life then nothing will. Def return. Where did you pick yours up eBay?
@@TeddyJuras Appreciate the thoughts Teddy. It seems like the contacts aren't going to recognize any film. And yes, Ebay of course.
How to transfer the photos in my phone?
You have to get the film developed first and make sure the camera shop provides digital versions of the photos. Then you can upload to phone, social media etc.. the Dark Room is a company in the states that you can ship your roll to and they provide digital photos. 👍
Hi, what film does it take?
This is a good film for starting out - bit.ly/BuyKodakFilm
@@TeddyJuras Thank you so much!! I naïvely bought Portra 400 and it didn’t fit. :(
@@justinv.7901 It's a 35mm camera, and as such will take any 35mm film
@@justinv.7901 that doesn't make any sense
